Prologue

I guess you’re here to learn about the girl who had to hide her true identity, huh? That’s me. Rieka Hart or well… Riley Ford. I suppose it depends on when you met me.My parents have looked out for me the best that they can. The truth is, someone wants to take down the Royal Pack and kill the Alpha King and Luna Queen. We don’t know whether these are fellow werewolves or some other supernatural race. All we know is that their goal is to end my family line. Why?Because we are gemstone wolves.Gemstone wolves are the royal line, and each one of us has eyes that look like gemstones and give us an enhanced ability. When we meet our true mate and mark them, it changes their eyes to have a gold band around them, linking them with the gemstone wolf and enhancing their own abilities. My parents tried to have lots of kids, especially when they knew that their line was under attack. But all they were able to have was… me.My real name is Rieka Hart. I am the true heir to the throne. I need to

Chapter 1 | Last Day Of School

Riley“Let’s go, Riley!” Dani calls for me. She is basically my mom. I’ve lived with the Ford family ever since I was 7. I’m almost 18 years old now, and this life with them is the only one I really know.I huff as I get out of bed, throwing on a t-shirt and a pair of jeans, and grabbing a hat to hide my messy dark brown hair, and there’s a knock on my door.“Yeah,” I call out, and the door opens for me to see one of Dani’s sons, Harry. He leans against the doorframe with a smirk as he says, “Mom says you gotta drive me to school.”I roll my eyes. Harry and I have gone to the same school since we’re only 1 year apart. Most days, we get along well, and then other times we’re at each other's throats.I assume that’s normal for siblings, or well, whatever the hell you want to call us.“Fine with me,” I remark as I grab a pair of black combat boots. I add, “You might have to drive yourself home, though.”“Why? You want to go off with Zane?” He asks before making smooching noises and turnin

Chapter 2 | Week Of Mourning

RileyI don’t have my wolf yet. How could a bond that wasn’t even fully formed on my side hurt so much when it is broken?I skipped the last day of school; I’ve been sulking in my room ever since. I thought this would’ve been like a normal breakup and that after a few days I would feel better.I don’t feel better. I’ve never felt this bad in my life.My family handled my sadness and mourning for one week. I didn’t tell them that Zane was my true mate and that he rejected me. They think he broke up with me and I’m just struggling through this.My whole world is imploding. I’m only 17, and I've already lost my mate. I feel like I’m not good enough. There will be an expectation for me to pick a man to rule on my side, but how could I do that when the one I’m meant to be with doesn’t want me?For one week, I cried. I stayed in my bed. My family would bring me food.Harry and Todd would come to my room to keep me company and watch TV. Todd is the youngest and will start high school next yea

Chapter 3 | Dark Moon Pack

ArcherFive years ago, I was sent away from my home at the Dark Moon Pack. My father, the Alpha, died in a vicious rogue attack. I was too young to take his place, and my mom and the Beta were grieving too much to properly teach me and to keep the pack running at the same time.I was sent to various packs, where I learned from some of my dad’s closest confidants. But because it’s my 18th birthday, it’s time for me to return to my pack and to be the Alpha they’ve needed.Tonight, I will shift for the first time. Then, I will take my place as Alpha of the Dark Moon Pack. Along with me, the sons of the current Beta and Gamma will take over their parents' roles. I met the guys a handful of times, and when we were kids, we were inseparable. The three of us were like the three musketeers. Our parents liked to call us the ABC’s: Archer, Brandon, and Caleb. But it’s been 5 years of only seeing each other at Christmas. We aren’t as close as we used to be.I’m hoping it will all be okay. They’v

Chapter 4 | It's A Pleasure

RileyHarry and Todd keep me occupied and distracted as we pull up to the bowling alley. They rush inside, pumped up and overly animated. I smile as I watch them and then check out our surroundings.I’ve always been ultra wary of my surroundings, always watching others to make sure nothing can take me by surprise.Harry and Todd know that I’m still sad, and they’re having a hard time adjusting to my mood. Normally, I try to hide my sadness from them, but this is all-consuming, and I can’t worry about how it’s affecting them when, at times, it’s hard to breathe knowing my mate rejected me.We walk to the counter to grab our shoes, and Harry gasps then hisses, “Taylor’s here.”I glance in the direction that Todd is looking as Harry attempts to hide between the two of us. I smirk. That’s adorable; he’s got a crush. We get our shoes and walk to our lane, the whole time Harry glancing back to try and see where this Taylor girl could be. I pull my hair up as I mentally make a game plan on ho

Chapter 5 | Bowling

ArcherI never thought I’d meet my mate so soon after shifting. I also never thought there would be so much drama that she is wrapped up in.But after getting past that, things seem to run smoothly. Her brothers, Harry and Todd, are enjoying hanging out with Brandon and Caleb, which leaves me with one-on-one time with Riley. She sits with her legs crossed and leans forward as she watches her brothers with a protective intensity only an older sibling could have. She’s worried about them, even though there’s no one else here besides the owners. But after the situation with Zane, I understand her apprehension. She’s not scared of me, though, and that’s all that matters for me. I ask, “Are you alright, Riley?”She looks at me, startled by the interruption to her thoughts. She nods, “Yeah, I’m fine. I’m sorry, I was just thinking.”Riley pulls her hair from its ponytail and nervously begins to braid it. I press my lips together and say, “This must’ve been overwhelming for you.”She shrugs h

Chapter 6 | Stupid Mate Bond

RileyI’ve never seen Dani and Rich so angry with us. They’re frustrated over the situation, but they're angry because we didn’t come straight home. This was made into such a big deal because I “jeopardized my safety” that I am getting a call from my biological parents, the Alpha King and Luna Queen.I settle into my room, waiting for my phone to ring. It’s going to be an unknown number; it always is. I’m not allowed the freedom to contact my parents whenever I want. I have to wait for them to approach me.The phone rings and my stomach twists with anxiety. Taking a deep breath, I answer, “Hello.””“Rieka.” My father’s voice is deep and demands respect. It’s like I can feel his royal aura through the phone. He said my real name, which I rarely hear, only when I say it to myself.“Yes, sir,” I respond, trying not to sound sheepish. My mother, Camille, speaks, her tone laced with a motherly worry, “Are you okay, Rieka?”“I’m fine. It’s not a big deal, I promise.”My father responds to th

Chapter 7 | Getting To Know You

RileyCirce Sunbeam made tons of potions in case we ever needed to hide our scents. Normally, it’s just used for me, but now, my foster parents are rushing around the house, trying to disguise its scent and have practically drowned themselves with the potion.I can almost guarantee that Circe will be here within the next week to give us new supplies.Even after using so much of the potion, they have reiterated multiple times that we are not going to let Archer inside our home, that the scent is too strong here, and that they aren’t confident the potion can conceal it for long.I sit on the front porch, watching Todd and Harry throw a football while I listen to their parents, still panicking, as they get ready inside the house.Tires rolling on gravel meet my ears, and I smile as I sit up and Todd calls out, “Mom, Dad, he’s here!”The door opens and Dad murmurs, “Damn it.”Mom puts her hand on his arm as she says, “It’ll be okay. We can handle this.”I roll my eyes; they’re too nervous

Chapter 8 | Games

ArcherBeing around Riley makes me feel a sense of peace that I’ve never had before. Well, I feel at peace unless my annoying friends are flirting with her. Caleb smirks at me or winks at me constantly as he flirts with Riley. He’s trying to get under my skin; he’s trying to see what it would take to make me crack. But I’m an Alpha, and I will maintain my composure. Even if deep down I want to rip his head off. Riley wants to sit in my normal spot. If it were anyone else, I would say no, but with the thought of her sitting there and her scent taking over my space, I couldn’t ask for anything more. I sit beside her, ready to teach her the game. She looks at me with such wide-eyed innocence and excitement that I mind-link the guys: Go easy on her… we don’t want her to hate playing with us after our very first game.We do a practice round, and she’s not as bad as I would’ve thought, but she’s not very good either. She looks to me for reassurance every time she lands a kill or does someth

Chapter 9 | Discovery

Archer The night with Riley couldn’t have gone better. I brought her home at 11, not wanting to push her parent’s boundaries. She smiles at me as we pull up to her house and says, “I had fun, Archer.”I nod with a smile, “Me too, Ri, maybe we could do this again soon?”She gives me a coy smile as she says teasingly, “I think we could arrange that.”I chuckle and get out of the car to go open her door. I take her hand and start walking with her to the front door, but she stops and looks at me as she says, “You can go ahead and go, Archer, I’m fine.”My eyebrows furrow and I shake my head no and say, “I’d like to see your parents if they’re still up.”“Oh, well, they’re probably asleep. You know how the old folks are.” She responds with a nervous chuckle. I nod looking at her curiously, why doesn’t she want me to come to the door?I take her hand and say, “Come on, Riley.” She lets out a soft groan that confuses me and she fid
