Archer
Coming home feels weird.
After my dad, Alpha of the Dark Moon Pack, died from a rogue attack, I was sent to various packs to learn from other Alphas what my responsibilities will be. My mom stayed as Luna and my dad’s Beta stood in his place until I was old enough to receive my wolf and take my place as Alpha.
I turned 18 last week and was sent home. Tonight, is the first full moon since my birthday which means tonight, I will shift for the first time. And I will take my place as Alpha of the Dark Moon Pack.
My Beta and Gamma will be the sons of the current Beta and Gamma. I’ve met them a handful of times… when we were kids we were like best friends. Archer, Brandon, and Caleb, we were like the three musketeers! Or as our parents enjoyed calling us: the ABC’s.
But after 5 years of only seeing each other at Christmas, we obviously aren’t as close as we were. I think everything will be okay though, they’ve been trained for their positions just like I’ve been trained for mine so there shouldn’t be too many issues.
My door opens and I look over at my mom. She smiles softly at me, but I can see she’s nervous. Her eyes have always revealed her emotions and I know she’s scared for me to take the position and to lose me. She asks, “Are you ready, Archer?”
I nod as I stand up. My clothes are pretty casual just a white button down and black pants, once I shift under the light of the full moon these clothes will be shredded and I will lead my pack in a run around the pack grounds.I hook my arm with hers as I say confidently, “Ready as I’ll ever be, mom.”
She smiles as she breathes out and we head down the stairs. As we head outside, she tells me, “You’re the spitting image of your father, you know. He’d be proud to see you. You’ll do great things for this pack, Archer.”I smile, “Thanks mom.”She lets go of my arm and takes a seat while I walk towards the small podium they made. Beta Grant and Gamma Harrington smile at me and they start the ceremony. The whole thing passes by in a blur. They are trying to get through it before my body forces me to shift and I feel sweat all over my body as the transformation is going to happen soon. I repeat after them making my commitment to the pack and shortly after I said my oath my body forces me to shift.I try my best not to cry out, I want my people to think they have a strong Alpha… I want them to think of me the same way they thought of my dad.
The shift happens quicker than I thought. I hear people gasp as my wolf is revealed and suddenly, I have a link to every one of the pack members since I am their Alpha. I hear people speak through the mind link congratulating me.
I stand tall, feeling proud of this accomplishment. I glance down at my paws to see that my fur is a dark brown color and I hear a deep voice say: It’s nice to finally be out.
My heart lept to my throat and I say: You’re my wolf?
I am. You can call me Atticus.
Huh, what are the odds we would both have ‘A’ names?
He makes an ‘I don’t know’ sound and then I link with my people: It’s time for our pack run. Anyone who can, please join in.
I watch as the majority of the crowd shift, only a few people don’t and it’s because they’re too old or because they have a young child.
I let out a loud howl and take off, enjoying the rush of my first run as my people follow my lead.
When I get back to the pack house most of the people disperse and Brandon and Caleb run up to me and Brandon shifts and says, “Good to have you home, Archer.”
Caleb loops his arms around each of our necks and says, “Yeah, the ABC’s back together again!”I chuckle and ask, “Are you two ready to be sworn in?”Caleb immediately straightens up and acts more serious as he says, “Yes Alpha.”I smile as I go through the ritual as they commit to the pack and to me. Brandon is my Beta and Caleb is my Gamma and once they were sworn to me and the pack, we went inside to join our parents. Brandon’s dad jokes, “Nice for you boys to finally be in charge. I was getting too old for this.”
Brandon snorts at the joke. His dad was still in his 30’s and was in great shape as Beta. But I’m sure he’s grateful to have all the added pressures lifted off of him. My mom nudges him and then looks over at us and says, “Hey, son, how about you guys go off and celebrate? You can worry about real work tomorrow. Think of this as like… a bonding experience.”Caleb’s eyes light up and he says, “Yeah, Archer, what do you think?”
I nod reluctantly as Brandon and Caleb grab my arms and drag me out of the pack house. My mom mind links me: Have fun, son! Stop being so uptight.I roll my eyes but to be honest I appreciate her and how she’s looking out for me.
Maybe this won’t be so bad.
Brandon and Caleb argued for over half an hour before agreeing on bowling. I haven’t been in years, but I mean… how hard could it be?
We got our shoes, ordered some food and sodas, picked our balls, went to our lane, and I was just about to start our game off when the most intoxicating scent appeared.
I lift my head up as I hear Atticus announce in my head: MATE!
Fear and excitement fill my body. I never would’ve thought that I would meet my mate the same day I shifted. I look around for the lavender coconut scent as I try desperately to find it. I can hear Caleb telling me to take my turn and then Brandon says, “Dude, chill. Isn’t it obvious? He’s looking for someone.”
Caleb asks, “Are we expecting anyone else?”Atticus grumbles in my head: Idiot.I smirk from his comment when my eyes land on a girl. She has chocolate brown hair that goes past her shoulders and she’s pulling it up and I catch a glimpse of her neck making me feel excited because I know that’s where my mark will be.
I set my ball down as I walk to her, desperate to see her face. The closer I get to her, I realize that she is human. It doesn't matter to me though, maybe she'd be willing for me to change her, but if she wasn't then she would be my perfect human Luna.
I'm still in disbelief that I could find her so quick. Then, life moves in slow motion as I see someone nudge her and she stumbles backwards and I rush to go catch her before she can fall.
Riley Harry and Todd talk animatedly as we get to the bowling alley. I smile watching the two of them interact, I’ve always been a people watcher and I can tell most of my night I’ll be observing others. The boys don’t know how to react around me because they know I still feel sad. They don’t know how to handle my sad times because if I’m ever sad I normally try to hide it from them. But right now, it’s weighing me down so much that I don’t feel like I can. As we walk up to grab our shoes I hear Harry gasp as he says,“Oh my, Taylor’s here.”I glance in the direction that Todd is looking while Harry tries to hide himself between us. I smirk, how cute, he’s got a crush. Once we get our shoes we walk to our lane and I pull my hair up as I begin to make a game plan on how I’m going to embarrass my brother. As I do this someone bumps into me causing me to stumble backward. I quickly realize that I can’t catch myself and br
ArcherWell, this isn’t how I planned on meeting my mate. But things seem to be going well. Her younger brothers, Harry and Todd, are having good conversation with Brandon and Caleb which leaves me to have some time alone with Riley. She sits with her legs crossed and leaned forward as she watches her brothers intensely. She seems worried about them, even though there’s no one else here besides the owners. But after that scare with Zane, I understand her apprehension. I’m just grateful she isn’t scared of me. I ask, “Is everything okay, Riley?”She looks at me and seems startled by my voice. She nods, “Yeah, yeah, I’m fine. Sorry, just thinking.”She pulls her hair out of its ponytail and nervously begins to braid it. I press my lips together and say, “I know this must all be overwhelming for you.”She shrugs her shoulders as if silently telling me that it isn&rsq
RileyHarry was right. Our parents were pissed off about what happened at the bowling alley and for the fact that we didn’t head home immediately. In fact, this was such a big deal that I received a phone call from the Alpha King and Luna Queen… my biological parents.I walk upstairs to my room feeling nervous as I call the number that Dani and Rich gave me. The only time I ever heard from my biological parents was on my birthday. So, I know this isn’t good at all.The phone rings and I hear king Carter, my father, answer, “Rieka.”It’s weird hearing my real name. Aside from me reminding myself who I really am, I never hear my name.I say, “Yes sir.”My mother, Camille, asks, “Are you alright, Rieka?”I respond, “I’m fine, really it’s no big deal.”Carter grumbles, “If it’s not a big deal then why d
RileyMy parents practically drown themselves using the potion to hide scents. When I told them that Archer is an Alpha, they wanted to make sure he wouldn’t be able to sense their scents at all. They tell me and the boys multiple times how we’ll go outside for them to meet Archer and he’s not allowed inside because it smells like them, and they don’t have enough time to cover the scent.I sit on the front porch watching Todd and Harry throw a football while listening to their parents get ready inside. The noise of a car on gravel greets my ears and I sit up as I hear Todd yell, “Mom, dad, he’s here!”I hear dad mutter, “Damn it.”And mom goes, “It’s okay, be cool, be cool, we got this.”I roll my eyes, I think they’re a little too nervous for this meet up. Archer gets out of the car and runs his fingers through his dark brown hair and then he smiles at me nervously and
Archer I could rip Caleb’s head off with his constant insinuations and flirting with Riley. I try not to show how possessive I feel and just have fun with her but he’s really starting to get on my nerves because he’s taking advantage of the fact that he knows I won’t react poorly with her around. Riley asks to sit in the spot where I sit and I would normally say no to anyone asking that, but… she’s my mate and I’m trying to impress her. So, I agree to it and I sit beside her as I teach her how to play. She looks at me with such wide-eyed innocence that I mind link the guys and say: Go easy on her… we don’t want her to hate playing with us after our very first game. They both mumble in agreement and after 30 minutes of letting her get used to the game, we start a real match. It doesn’t take long to realize she was faking as she soon wiped the floor with us. Brandon even calls out to me, “Um, Archer, I’m not going easy!”Ril
Archer The night with Riley couldn’t have gone better. I brought her home at 11, not wanting to push her parent’s boundaries. She smiles at me as we pull up to her house and says, “I had fun, Archer.”I nod with a smile, “Me too, Ri, maybe we could do this again soon?”She gives me a coy smile as she says teasingly, “I think we could arrange that.”I chuckle and get out of the car to go open her door. I take her hand and start walking with her to the front door, but she stops and looks at me as she says, “You can go ahead and go, Archer, I’m fine.”My eyebrows furrow and I shake my head no and say, “I’d like to see your parents if they’re still up.”“Oh, well, they’re probably asleep. You know how the old folks are.” She responds with a nervous chuckle. I nod looking at her curiously, why doesn’t she want me to come to the door?I take her hand and say, “Come on, Riley.” She lets out a soft groan that confuses me and she fid
RileyAfter that night, everything changed. My parents didn’t care about me going over to Archer’s anymore and actually seemed to prefer it.It was weird, but it was nice. Since Zane and I broke up his sister Breanne doesn't talk to me. I've reached out a couple of times but she never answers. I wasn't super popular in school and she was my only real friend that if I hadn't met Archer and the guys this summer would've been pretty boring.I'm a little nervous as school gets closer. I'll have to deal with Zane and Breanne every day and I won't have my guys with me. It seems a little dumb to make friends whenever I'll be leaving soon anyways to take my place on the throne.I decide not to focus on it right now and instead focus on the good things. For most of the summer I have been over at the Dark Moon Pack and my brothers would join me over there too at least once a week. They ended up joining in on trainings with Archer’
RileyWhen we pull up to the Dark Moon packhouse Brandon and Caleb are already waiting outside for us. Todd unbuckles his seat belt as fast as he can and hops out of the car before Archer was even able to make a complete stop.Archer murmurs under his breath about how reckless that was making me giggle and I hear Harry huff behind me as he really just hates seeing me interact with Archer.I glare at Harry for his reaction, and he grunts as he gets his bag out of the car and slams the door shut. Archer looks at me with one eyebrow raised and asks, “Do you think the kid is ever going to accept me?”I chuckle and say, “Eh, it’s not likely, but maybe you’ll grow on him just like you grew on me!”He lets out a hearty laugh as we both get out of the car and as he takes my hand he says, “Oh yeah, like I had to grow on you! You seemed pretty taken with me from the start.”I bump into h
