I entered the prince’s lounge and I was immediately struck by a sense of awe. The room exuded opulence and elegance fit for a royal. The air carried a delicate fragrance of exotic flowers, creating an enchanting atmosphere that captured my senses. Stepping further into the lounge, my eyes were drawn to the magnificent chandelier hanging from the high ceiling, casting a soft, golden glow over the space. The lounge was adorned with lavish decorations, a testament to the princes’ impeccable taste and wealth. Intricate tapestries depicting mythical creatures and epic battles adorned the walls, adding a touch of grandeur to the room. The furniture boasted intricate carvings and was designed with the utmost attention to detail. Plush velvet sofas and armchairs provided luxurious seating options, enticing me to sink into their comfort. The room was a harmonious blend of icy blues and shimmering silvers, reminiscent of the enchanting landscapes of the Icelands. “I thought it was my turn!”, Eoff whined as he attempted to snatch the bottle from Sia.“It was”, Ruarc said. “But as you can see, your elder brother is quite anxious to get back to his plaything”.“She’s not my plaything!”, Sia growled as he reached for another bottle and uncorked it, having finished the other.“Then what is she, if not your plaything?”, I ask him. “She’s definitely not your mate or whore so what is Pharix to you?”He narrowed his eyes. “Are you sure we’re still talking about Pharix here?”“Definitely. What is she to you?”“Why do you care?”“Why shouldn’t I? If the father of my unborn child is exchanging liberties with another woman, then I need to know”.There it was, my secret out in the open.Sia set down the bottle, purple eyes meeting mine. “You’re…you’re pregnant?”I wanted to lie. I felt like lying but they need to know. He needs to know. After all, if I don’t tell him, he would eventually find out once my baby bump starts to show.“Yes I am. I know it’s impo

“No, no, no and no. I do not agree with this. Any of this!”, Eloive yelled as he popped a grape into his mouth.“Eloive, it’s the only way”, Toreh cooed.“No it's not. This is only going to get you killed Toreh”.“Eloive, I won’t die. Your uncle is only going to drink my blood for a while to buy Wilhelm time to save Amar”.“And then what?”, Eloive asked.“You pull me away from your uncle. See? It’s that simple. We save Amar and.…”“You become a bloodbag”.“Eloive, we have only today to rescue my sister please. Just do this for me please”.Eloive looked at her. “If this doesn’t well, I…”“It would end well Eloive. We’ll be fine. I promise”.Wilhelm walked back in. “I assume we are ready”.Eloive turned to Wilhelm. “If anything happens to Toreh or her sister, I’d kill you”.Wilhelm chuckled. “I thought you said you didn’t care about her?”“That’s besides the point”, Eloive muttered. Toreh turned to him. “Is it true? Did you say that?”“Look, we’re running out of time. Are we doing this

I am bored. Back home, such a thing has never happened to me before. Ranging from paperwork to settling disputes, there was always something to do. But here, in this palace, I am afraid boredom would soon choke me to death. The night is still young, and I’ll like to make the most of it. I would have gone out to party but I hate to be surrounded by alcohol and not being able to drink it. Being pregnant sucks. Surely the queen herself would be able to teach me how to overcome my current predicament. After all, it wouldn’t have been easy, mothering twelve children. Well fifteen, if you count her grandchildren. The hallways are empty and I hurriedly make my way upstairs. It’s eerily quiet, but even in the silence, I can still hear it. Someone’s cries. I move closer to the sound, and before I realize it, I’m standing outside the king’s chambers. I know it’s the king’s chambers because he and his wife are the only ones residing in the North wing, and I’m certain they stay together an

“I didn’t know you were so close with the wolf”. Avetha. Zikur smiled peevishly. “Another thing you do not know about me. Why are you here Avetha? Shouldn’t you be at the party?” “The party ended minutes ago. You would have known that if you weren’t familiarizing yourself with the wolf”. “That wolf has a name Avetha”. “And I do not care. She’s still a wolf nonetheless, an omega to be precise. Seems you omegas have a way of knowing each other”. Zikur’s nostrils flared. “What exactly do you want?” “What could I possibly want other than to offer my condolences to the queen? I hear, Thjis has quite a way with fists”. “So do I, if you do not leave here at once”. “You need not protect her Zik. She’s a woman wth too many sins”. “It takes one to know one Avetha. And please, don’t you ever call me Zik again”. “Why not?”, she asked, stepping closer. “Is it because it reminds you of those years spent slaving at the packhouse?” Zikur glared. “It doesn’t remind you of anything other tha

“I seriously do not know what you see in that man Amar. He is simply awful”, Toreh exclaimed as she set down a crate of wine on the table.“I refuse to believe that Wilhelm said such awful things Toreh. Yes, he might be a little bit rough but he would never belittle a woman’s strength or underestimate her”.Toreh scoffed. “Then you truly do not know that man”.“Do any of us? He just came in this season so I doubt anyone would ever truly know him except his fantastic father”.Toreh deadpanned. “Please tell me you’re being sarcastic”.“Of course I’m being sarcastic Toreh. His father is simply despicable!”, Amar exclaimed, setting down another crate. There was still twenty more outside and Amar figured it would have to stay out there now that her arms were starting to throb.“I know right. He’s the worst”, Toreh said.“But at least he’s there for his child”.“Mother!”, Amar exclaimed, standing upright. “What are you trying to say?”“The vampire king might be awful but at least he was the

“Um Wilhelm, have you seen Toreh?”Wilhelm laced up his boots before turning to his cousin.“Yes”.“Do you know where she is? I went to the bathroom and she just disappeared. I’ve been looking for her ever since”.“She went home lad. Maybe she was tired of seeing your face and respectfully took her leave”, Wilhelm murmured.“She would have at least said goodbye”, muttered Eloive.“She would”, Wilhelm agreed.“Where are you going?”“Out. I thought it was that obvious”.“You’re going to her home are you not?”Wilhelm sighed and straightened. “Eloive, you’re not coming with me”.“But I need to see her”.“Well if she wanted to see you, she would have stayed back, would she not?”, Wilhelm asked. “Look, Eloive, aren’t you supposed to be keeping your distance? You wouldn’t want the queen to find out about the truth, would you?”“I could care less about what my grandmother thinks”, Eloive snarled.“Well you should care about what your uncle Thane thinks. You know that he doesn’t give empty th

“They’ve gone. So what are we going to do with him?”, Amar asked, referring to Colin.“I don’t know. I don’t exactly know anything about handling dead bodies”.“Well I’d figured you would know since you’ve killed someone before”.“Amar! I was just a child”, Toreh explained.“A very dangerous one to be exact. Thinking of it, I wonder what Lady Victoria did that caused you to kill her”.“We could burn him”, Toreh suggested, avoiding Amar’s inidrect question.“If we lit a fire, it would wake people up”.“Well we have to do something”, Toreh said with a sigh.“I don’t know okay? I’ve ran out of ideas”.“Call Wilhelm”.“What?”“It’s his mess. We can’t clean it up for him”.“We don’t need his help. We’ll handle it ourselves”.“Amar, if you don’t call him, I will”.Amar eyed her sister. “Since when did you become so bossy?”“I don’t know, since you met the prince, I guess. You’ve just been acting so controlling”.“I haven’t been!”“Been too!”“Been not!”“I’m not going to argue with you. I’l

“Mila”, I exclaim, surprised to see her here by this hour. “You’re here, why?” “I got the items. I just wanted to know if it was okay for me to start wrapping them”. Now I’m hella confused. “Wrapping what exactly?” She shot me a look. “You wrote me a note, listing items you wanted to buy as Christmas presents. You gave me that along with some gold bars”. Wait what? “When did I do all that?” “Um, yesterday after mass”. What the? “Mila, I don’t remember talking to you after mass. I would have known if I did”. “I could show you the note if you want my lady”. “Please do”. She hands over a sheet of paper and I’m shocked to see it is my handwriting. A jumpsuit for Waxlyn? A manuscript for Elijah? A special wine glass for Eloive, six rings for Ruarc? When did I ever write any of these? “What’s the problem my lady? Is it not your handwriting?” “It is my handwriting Mila but I can’t remember writing these, I’m sorry”. “So what do you want me to do with the gifts?”, she asked. “Do w

After Sia leaves, I leave to go find Mila, except that I can’t find her anywhere. I ask the servants, the ones I could find roaming about, but no one seems to know where she is, or maybe they didn’t want to tell me anything regarding her whereabouts, simply because they despise me.“Hello, do you know where I can find the handmaiden quarters, if there is such a thing?”The maid only scurries off. I sigh, exhausted.“I wonder why she’s looking for the royal servants quarters at this ungodly hour”, someone laughed. It just had to be Armaddan. She was seated along the hallway with some other women, all in their nightdresses. I think they’re Ruarc’s wives since they’re a total of six in number.“Maybe she has finally realized that, that’s her rightful place”, one of them remarked. Now I’m not the kind of person to stand around while people say shit about me.“You know, if you’ve got something to say about someone, it’s best you say it to their face”, I tell them, standing poised before Ar
