CHAPTER forty-one: Taken alive...
“Amelia come here.” He suddenly said in a calm tone. She narrowed her eyes at him. “Have faith in me,” his voice vibrated, wondering if the woman knew how much he actually loved her, he sighed when she didn’t budge, “I beg you.” She closed the little space between them in few steps and Conroy drew her onto his laps. She was rigid in his arms for some moments and then Conroy swept his hands over her hair. Once…then twice and he didn’t stop till she rested her head against his chest and begun to sob. Both of them were silent for a long while until Conroy cleared his throat, “Thank you sweetheart.” She didn’t raise her head from his chest as she whispered, “Why are you thanking me?” her voice was still bleary from crying and Conroy could feel the wetness on his chest. Her tears. “For trusting me. For carrying my pup, my son, the heir to the throne of Valeria.” “Why do you think it’s a boy?” Amelia asked. “From a woman’s gait and outbursts while she is with child, I can te

CHAPTER forty-two: Wake-up Amelia
Amelia found herself in the center of a tower, barely illuminated by the grey moonlight. The doors and windows of the tower were flung open yet not a single wind blew in the tower. The air itself was humid and stale. The walls of the tower were titanic and round as though she stood at the bottom of a well. Through a square cut on the crown of the tower, grey moonlight slithered in. the tower was bare of any objects and designs left for the mirror, which hung unsupported in the air. The surface of the looking glass shone like clear waters under the glow of the moonlight. Amelia slowly stepped forward and peered into the mirror only for to see herself briefly reflected on it and then her reflection opened its mouth while her own mouth was close and begun screaming soundlessly, its hair whipped around by a gust of heavy wind while her hair remained still. Suddenly, her reflection on the mirror dissolved into an old haggy woman, whose back was crooked a

CHAPTER forty-three: Gloom
“Help me!” She screamed as her fingers dug into the fur coverlet draped over her, eyes shut tightly in despair. “Wake up! Amelia! Wake up! Tis is nothing but a dream you are having!” Conroy’s stern voice, his persistent shaking, finally brought her from having knowledge of her lost memory to waking into reality. “You must protect me, Lucas! I almost saw them! They killed my family…my clan!” she babbled on, trembling so violently her teeth clattered. “I have no family---no sanctuary! Nobody…it hurts; oh they are going to kill me too if they know I am alive! They said, “Nobody must live to tell the tale! Hide me from them.” “Hush, now, Hush! There is nobody here but you and me, my little wildcat, “Come on darling, open your eyes and see for yourself! You are safe with me in Valeria, in my castle, in my chamber.” He smiled ruefully as he placed a hand over her belly, “And if that is not enough, you have my heir in your belly to protect you too.” “Safe, you say?” she

CHAPTER forty-four: Loose ends
Esme was chanting to herself after she returned to her cave in the forest that created a boundary between Ancientrova and Valeria. Happy tears coursed down her sagged cheeks as she thought her whereabouts had been successful. After the Hybrid Werewolf King Lucas Conroy ignored her admonitions and went ahead to save his mate, she had hoped they would remain hostage of Fehr Rahl, the true blood vampire king. But Alas, she heard that the King was back in the Castle. She did not give up until two nights ago that she was able to appear in his mate’s dream. “I curse you, Alpha King Conroy and hope your mate will hate you after she knows of what you did to her kinsmen!” she muttered, shaking her head. That said, Esme thrust aside the tattered hangings that covered the entrance to her cave and ambled into the cold darkness. She fumbled about, trying to rekindle a dying flame in the hearth. Then all of a sudden, she stiffened, her head snapping up. “Hello, Who’s there?” sh

CHAPTER forty-five: Spoils of war
“What about Chorleywood?” Arian had inquired in a voice void of feeling. Conroy laughed bitterly, “Tell me, what do you think?” Arian gritted his teeth, “What about Chorleywood? We vowed never to take the name of that village in these walls again.” Conroy coughed, “You said not a single one of them was left alive.” “I swear to you. Not one of them was left alive to tell the tale. None of them could have survived the blows and then I made sure I burnt every last cottage to the ground.” Arian protested. “Damn the goddess!” Conroy cursed, “Amelia, my mate is the daughter of Alan Whittaker and Catriona Whittaker, the human leader of Chorleywood.” “Oh no.” Arian groaned. Now it all made sense. Amelia must have known who massacred her clan and for revenge she came into the Castle to assassinate the King who was responsible but as the goddess would have it, Amelia is mated to the killer of her Kinsmen. Both of them were silent awhile. Then Arian swallowed, “Does she kno

CHAPTER forty-six: Mate.
The blood drained from Sian’s face as she stumbled back in denial, “What…?” Amelia immediately reached for the stunned she-wolf who recoiled from everyone. Time seemed to slow as everyone looked at the human girl, a look of shock in their eyes. Arian’s eyes were feral, his teeth bared as he repeated, “Mate,” the word slipping out of his lips like a familiar song and he went rigid all over as everything he had built up to this day came crashing into pieces. She couldn’t be his mate; she was not his mate. How? He already mated to his beloved. Moreover, she was a human and he was a werewolf. It was dreadful. It was unbelievable. And it was terrible timing above all else. He felt a surge of panic as he glanced across the halls at Sian, realizing what he had to do. What he had to do to remain loyal to his beloved, Sian…the mother to his pups. He would have to hate her. Hate the human. That was the only way the human would be safe. Sian had an unhealthy temperament. “What?” the

CHAPTER forty-seven: The truth.
“Morn, sweetheart.” A voice whispered in her ears, soft lips pressing firmly onto her silky shoulders. She moaned as the lips brushed against the sweet spot behind her ears. Cracking one eye open, Amelia smiled as Conroy’s handsome face came into view, “Morn, Lucas.” She said in a whisper as he brushed his lips on hers. The bright sunlight filtered into the room through the hangings on the stone openings that served as a windeye, casting an ethereal glow on the couple. Her hazel eyes that shined even brighter took the smile on his face in as he placed a big warm palm on her belly that was slightly thicker. “What should we name our pup?” His voice was gruff and husky as he trailed soft kisses down the length of her throat to her breasts. It never failed to please her whenever he called it ‘Our Pup.’ She had never expected him to be so accepting of her pregnancy. “What about Alan?” Amelia whispered but Conroy stilled against her. He raised his eyes to meet hers, “Why Alan

CHAPTER forty-eight: Take me to Chorleywood.
Amelia could feel his heartbeat slow beneath her fingertips at her words, almost as though he held his breath. He turned to his side to look into her eyes, “My lady…I can explain.” She placed a light finger over his lips, “Hush my love, you do not have to say anything. You did what you had to do. It was for the best.” At this point, Conroy’s heartbeat had increased and it was racing beneath her palm, “What are you talking about, Amelia?” “What you did…truth is you do not want Sian to hurt Arian’s second mate more than she has already, so you sent her to her father’s pack until she feels calm enough to return to the castle.” The next breath escaped from his lungs in a whoosh, he had thought she meant Chorleywood… He laid back, this time facing the stone ceilings of Amelia’s chambers, “Arian is wounded. He would never hurt Sian intentionally.” His voice was gruff. Amelia curled into him, “I know. Arian loves her a lot. Sian has refused to talk to anyone since the girl was

CHAPTER forty-nine: frightened little kitten
After dining in the halls, Conroy kissed his mate goodbye and went about his kingly staples as he had to leave the castle whilst Amelia sat upon a low stool, crooning to her bairn as she patted her swollen middle. Her mind drifted to a conversation she once had in recent times with Gamma Ursa, one of the she-wolves in the Brown-onyx pack of the Valerian kingdom. Gamma Ursa is the second she-wolf in charge of matters concerning the King’s Luna after Sian who is the Beta Luna. Tall with a stout figure, Ursa was built for war and she was a hybrid like the king. “My lady, since you asked I will tell you.” Ursa had told Amelia many fortnights ago in her deep voice, “Although you are with child, the heir to the throne, it doesn’t make you the queen Luna. You don’t even have the king’s scent on you yet. That is what the other pack members in Valeria are saying.” Amelia sighed, albeit Ursa had a masculine human figure, she was like every other female with a knack for gossiping. “

CHAPTER fifty: In Chorleywood.
Conroy secretly dreaded that they would soon reach Chorleywood as it lay beyond the next stretch of trees. Their ride from Valeria to the forest had been quite gloomy and barely few words has been spoken between them. Her eyes growing dim, her cheeks paler and her smile dwindled as they rode. Taking her to Chorleywood became a task he’d wished he shied away from. “Are you sure you want this? We can turn back if you want, Chorleywood is no more than half a league away.” Conroy asked with a stern expression betraying his concern for Amelia as she turned in her saddle, head cocked to one side and her hair blew wildly behind her. “No, I must do this. I owe it to myself. I cannot hide from this. I have seen how my parents and clansmen were brutally murdered, I need to avenge their deaths.” She said with a stubborn jut of her chin, “If I regain my memory when we arrive there, do you give me your word to help me kill whoever did that to them?” Conroy blanched as he tightly wound t
