118. XAVIER — "death hovers 2"

I stared myself down in the bathroom mirror. The image of Sean's body kept floating before my eyes and torturing me. I wanted to sleep and wake up and find out it was all a damn dream; Sean was not dying and I wasn't falling apart. I needed to go to the clinic now and check on him and probably bid him farewell but the mere thought of it made my stomach churn, hence I was here in the bathroom, hiding like a coward. "Xavier." I heard Ariel pounding on the door but I ignored her. I did not like to see myself sink this way but I could not help it. Something in my chest was tightening so rapidly that it was a wonder I had not yet keeled over from a heart attack. "Xavier, please don't do anything rash and come out here!" I heard her yell but her voice was so distant that it might as well have been an imagination. I could not remember the last time I felt this overwhelming urge to cry; to bawl my eyes out and drown myself in alcohol. Before I even realized it, I felt the wetness drip

119. ARIEL — "melancholy of silence"

119. ARIEL I awoke with a start. I had fallen asleep immediately my head hit the pillow. Migraines were a nuisance really and I had begun to have them more often these days. Maybe it was the migraine but my sleep was unfortunately eventful. I dreamt of Sean. He was smiling one moment and the next he was bent over with a knife stuck on his chest. I rushed to his side to help him up as he fell but suddenly, Xavier was there shuffling towards me with a similar knife stuck in his abdomen. "Xavier!" I screamed but he simply nodded at me and coughed up blood. Suddenly, it felt like my feet was rooted to the ground and I was unable to move. I looked between Xavier and Sean unsure of what to do or say until I heard a soft murmur that roused me from my sleep. Xavier was sitting on the bed beside me, the first aid kit open on his side. He was wrapping his hand with bandage. "What happened? I just dressed your wounds." I croaked out and sat up on the bed. "Nothing. I'm fine, Ariel." H

120. ROSELINE — " seduce me"

I screamed and punched the wall. This was a variable I had not planned for. Sean wasn't supposed to wake up. He wasn't even supposed to have made it to the palace but I had forgiven that because I was sure there was no way he was going to live but now? He had opened his eyes. Just how strong was Xavier's beta. I had underestimated him and now I was paying the price. I couldn't be sure what amount of information he had and before he spoke, I needed to silence him. I had been in contact with the rogue wolves that attacked Sean and they had sworn that they did not make any mention of me but I still couldn't help but be worried. It was better to be safe than sorry and I knew just what I needed to do. Sean, no matter how strong he was, was still recuperating and there was no way he would be powerful against an intravenous dose of poison. But this was not something I could carry out by myself. Hence, I needed to find Syria Bunt. I quickly and angrily threw on a jacket before I exited

121. XAVIER — " We don't know what will happen before then"

I exhaled in relief. Hearing that Sean survived was a miracle in and of itself and I didn't take that for granted. Just the night before, I had been convinced that I would wake up to start planning a funeral for him. Now he was lying before me pale faced and unable to do anything that required even the tiniest bit of strength but he was alive. Sean would live. I had already stationed a ridiculous amount of guards in and outside of his room for the period he would be staying in the clinic. I was dying to know everything, from how he sustained the injuries to how he mad it back to the palace but I was determined to hold off any interrogation until he had recuperated fully. "We don't know what will happen before then." Ariel had argued when I told her this but that did not make me change my mind. I would protect Sean at all costs this time and until he was fully ready, I wouldn't bother him. Perhaps, it was our too hasty decisions that put us in this mess in the first place. I grip

122. ARIEL —" I know where Juliette is"

Seven months. Seven whole months. Sean had returned to life from the brink of death seven months ago and while Juliet had still not been found, we had settled into a fairly comfortable rhythm of life. Xavier and I took care of state matters making sure that everyone's interest– including those both in and out of the palace– was protected. But this did not mean that the search for Juliet had been given up. We knew that we were so close to finding her but something, an important piece of the puzzle was still missing. So while Xavier sent guards out everyday to find Juliet, we worked with the intelligence team to gather substantial information on the rogues and whoever their leader was. It was a slow, secret process that yielded slow results but it was the only thing we could manage at the moment. Too much time had passed and the council of elders frowned on the fact that too many guards were recruited to search for the princess outside of the palace. "Who are then left to protect

123. ROSELINE — " only I get to toture the queen"

Finally. I was finally putting my plan into motion after many long months of planning and hiding in plain sight. Syria had asked me why I felt the need to wait for so long before trapping Ariel and my answer had been simple– I wanted to catch her at a time when she was most vulnerable. What I did not tell Syria was that I wanted Ariel to be near her delivery date before I struck. It was simple logic, really. She was now too heavily pregnant to fight back or do anything stupid and this made it easier to get rid of her. I almost felt bad for Asher. He was pivotal in the abduction of Ariel only because he thought I would hand her over to him. The idiot really thought I could let Ariel live at this point. But there was no way I was doing that. I was tired and sick of hiding and pretending. I wanted to show her my real face and reveal all my dark intentions to her before making her die a slow and painful death. Asher had no choice but to cooperate if he wanted to live. I smiled at

124. XAVIER — "Ariel is missing!"

I was exhausted. I had been out and about since the crack of dawn and the one thing I desperately needed was to soak in a hot bath and fall asleep on Ariel's thighs afterwards. But Ariel was probably asleep by this time, she went to bed quite early these days so maybe I would just settle for the hot bath. I handed my sword to Sean and tucked my knife into my pocket. "What's my schedule for tomorrow like?" I asked. Sean sighed and looked at me with pity in his eyes. He didn't need to say more; my day was probably just as packed as today had been. "Goodnight, your Grace." He said, eager to escape. I nodded and waved him away. He was just as exhausted from following me around all day and he needed to do the same tomorrow anyway. When I entered the room, I was surprised to see that Ariel wasn't sleeping. Had her insomnia started again? "Ariel." I called out glancing around the room. I could not put it past her to be hiding somewhere in the hopes of scaring me when I entered.

125. ARIEL — "A series of dead ends"

I slowly opened my eyes.My entire body ached and I felt nauseous. I had been sleeping for a long time but it was still bright out now. Time seemed to pass really slowly here although I had no way of knowing what the actual time was. I tried to keep hope alive, certain that Xavier wild soon barge in with a group of soldiers but I still feared that I would die before he arrived. I did not doubt his love for me or his prowess at finding out information but Roseline was apparently really evil. After all, she had held Juliet for many months now and we had still not managed to catch her. Instead, she had trapped me too. I still found it very difficult wrapping my head around the fact that Rosy was the villain. Maybe this was some sort of prank. Where were the cameras hidden and when would this cruel joke ever end? I looked down at my belly and the vivid memory of her kicking me with so much aggression came to me. I shuddered. There was no way that had been an act. I didn't mean to cry b

126. ROSELINE — "A torturous death!"

I slapped Ariel hard across the face. Her hands hung limp by her side and her head fell forward as though she was simply sleeping. If she thought it was okay to start having ideas, then she was begging to be killed and I had no objections to that. But I couldn't let Ariel go just like that. I had loathed her for most of my life and now that it was time to make her pay, I wanted to delight in it for a long time. First, I would kill Juliet slowly and painfully in front of her and when she was begging to be killed, I would grant her her wish. I turned to Juliet. The anger in her eyes had returned and quite frankly, I'd missed that look. That ferociousness that seemed to imply I was despicable and inhumane and she would kill me if she managed to lay her hands on me. Too bad though, she was bound to a chair with her hands tied behind her. "How could you?" She whispered choking out sobs. "How could you do this to Ariel?" It was the first time I was seeing her crying without much restrai

127. XAVIER — "crossfires"

I ran as fast as my legs would let me.The sun was almost down and I was desperate to get to Ariel. She was calling out to me and even though I still did not know exactly where she was, I could predict the area. I would find her today. Tomorrow might be too late. "Sean, stick with me and tell the others to spread out in groups of three." Sean set about doing as I had told him while I peered around between trees at high alert. "Quickly form group of threes and stay together. Nobody leaves their partners. If you notice anything weird, alert us immediately." I watched Sean as he went about addressing the numerous guards that were spread out in the field. I had told him to stay back in the palace but he insisted on coming with me. "I want to see this through to the end , Xavier. I feel like we'll be successful this time and I want to be part of that." I could not fault his argument because I understood him. I would want to be part of the team that brought my abductors to justice too
