CHAPTER 31: FORMAL NIGHTS
"Ok slow down, one foot in front of the other." Charlie says keeping his hands out ready incase I fall."We've made it out of the hospital, to the car, to the building, got out of the elevator, and into the apartment. I think I can walk 10 feet to the couch and be fine." I smart mouth him. He backs up and puts his hands up. Mark and my dad laugh.I sit down on the couch and sigh. "How do you feel?" My dad asks, taking a seat in a chair next to the couch."Ok, not the best but not as bad as yesterday.""Well the doctor did say that you would gradually feel better in the next few days. I think tomorrow or Thursday you'll feel the best." Mark says, crossing his arms. He's the only one standing and the most tense."Alright. Well I better get to work." My dad says getting up and moving to the door."I should go too. Abby keeps asking me to go shopping for the baby with her." Charlie says getting up from his spot on the couch next to me."Bye, love you both." I say giving them hugs before t

CHAPTER 32: FINDING JOY
The next few months of chemo went by in a blur. They pricked my arm and made me swallow a pill. I stayed in the hospital for the night then went home and recovered for a few days. Mark had to work most of those days. I tried to find shows that I would only like but I kept coming back to NCIS and Hawaii Five-O, my favorite shows. I promised Mark I wouldn't watch without him. That was hard. After a few weeks of not finding anything to watch I stooped down to watching My Little Pony. I can't believe I watched all seven or eight seasons. I'm not proud of that part in my life. A week after finishing My Little Pony I started reading more.I read the Twilight books again. Not listening to me actually read them, it's better that way. Then my body is focused on what's happening in the book rather than doing other random things. Like what? I'm not sure. The books are just like I remember them, better than the movies.I read the book To All the Boys I've Loved Before and the books after that. Wa

CHAPTER 33: BIRTHDAY SURPRISES
When I'm done in the shower I walk out and find Mark gone. I take this opportunity to get dressed. I got on a pair of dark jeans a black shirt and one of Mark's flannels. I want to be warm and cliche, I want to smell like him. I've always told myself that I never want to do that, but look at me now. Whatever, I can get away with it. I hope so."Nice shirt." Mark turns to me smirking with no shirt. I can't help but gauk at his chest. "Like what you see?" He teases. I can't help but blush. "Hold on a second. Is Alyanna Romero blushing?""I'm Alyanna Hernandez now." I say trying to get the subject off of me blushing. I don't get how I'm blushing so much now. I never used to. Even the occasional compliments from my first boyfriend. I just smiled and even felt uncomfortable when he did that."My mistake." He said, bowing? Sometimes he's really weird and hard to read. Especially with his guarded look. Speaking of the look, it's gone and I can see it in his blue eyes that he's happy. His pho

CHAPTER 34: MIDNIGHT
"What does all of this amount to?" He does so once again."This is a surprise for you on your birthday." I respond to him while extending my hand to him. After grabbing it, he follows me into the back of the truck and sits down."Could you just explain this to me?" He inquires while sitting down and pointing to the various cushions and blankets nearby."We went to a drive-in theater and watched movies that you and your mother used to watch all the time. I could remember some of them, but for the rest, I had to make educated guesses." I stated that I would sit next to him and he would cover me with a blanket."I am grateful." Mark says this to me while placing his arm around me and pressing his shoulder against mine."No issue, and best wishes on the birthday." I say giving him a hug back.I tune the radio to the appropriate station and bring the volume up to practically its maximum. I also open the windows in order to maybe improve our ability to hear the conversation. I was only able

CHAPTER 35: FAMILY AND FRIENDSHIP
You really need to get your hair cropped. While we are driving to Abby and Charlie's house for dinner, I remark something completely out of the blue.Mark interjects with, "What?"You really need to get your hair cropped. I repeat. "You have a few wings to your name." To touch them is what I mean.My hand was repelled by his push. "Do not attempt to distract the driver." When we are pulling up to their apartment complex, I can't help but let out a chuckle. We approach their flat and knock on their door. Abby has a response. "Very lovely to see you all." She then gives us a hug and invites us inside the house."You look lovely." I suggest touching her pregnant belly that is seven months along. "Thank you. It seems like the only thing I can put on is gowns made of legging material or one of Charlie's baggy T-shirts." She replies as she shows me the way to the couch. "Enough with the focus on myself. How are you doing right now? She inquires."I have another chemotherapy session schedule

CHAPTER 36: PLANS
"What?" I ask this based on the expression on his face."I have an obligation to make a journey for work tomorrow." He lets out a sigh before laying his head on my shoulder and sighing again.I inquired, "How much longer?"The answer is "till Wednesday." Another sigh escapes him."Are you going to be able to make it back for Thanksgiving?" I ask, staring at him now."I certainly do. To our good fortune, there is nothing that has to be done." He is now seated. "Your mom and dad are seeing that everything is taken care of, right?""Yep. Nothing that I try to do is permitted by them. Not that I'm complaining, but I don't particularly enjoy preparing very large dinners." My recommendation is to switch it over to Netflix so that we may watch some of our shows. We are able to get through a few more until Mark gets up to take a shower, at which point I need to change it. After discovering a sitcom by the name of Hart of Dixie, I made the decision to watch it. It's excellent.Mark leaves for

CHAPTER 37: FAMILIAR
MARK"I really wish that I had the opportunity to be there." I tell Alyanna over the phone as I am driving to my first appointment and we are having a conversation about something else."It's ok. I have Maddy and my dad. I'll be ok." She is attempting to reassure me by her actions right now."I am certain that you will, and all that I wish for is to be present when it takes place." I say it in a manner that gives the impression that I am expressing dissatisfaction."Mark, I'm ok. Do not panic." A mumbled voice is just barely audible to me. "I truly apologize, but I have to leave right now. I'll call you after." She says. I'm sorry I won't be able to say goodbye in the traditional sense. I put down my phone and continue driving in the direction that my appointment is supposed to be.After sitting through such a boring conference, the only thing I will want to do when I go back to my hotel room is to go to bed and sleep for the rest of the day. According to Jack, a buddy of mine from th

CHAPTER 38: ANOTHER KID
As I make my way down the hallway, I stop to look at some of the artwork. There is the one with my dad and his parents, a picture of Alyanna and me on our wedding day, a picture of what I believe to be the birth of our child even though I have no idea what her name is, and a picture of Alyanna, the young girl, and me with another baby."Do you have a second child?" I ask out loud."Daddy?" I overhear a weak and worn-out voice saying.I look around and notice a little boy standing there. I keel down. "What's up, Landon?" I make another effort to open my eyes wider. What if it's not even his real name? I ask myself."Where is mommy?" he yelled. He questions it while scratching his eyes."You can find her in the kitchen." I say freezing. What about Milly?"In her room with Lexi," the text reads. Lexi just snuck out. It's possible that we don't call each other that, but I can't say for sure. Nonetheless, I was finally able to discover the name of my child."Can you bring me to mama?" He q

CHAPTER 39: WEIRD TIMING
"Mark, everything is fantastic, my wife and I have been married for more than six years now," said the man. The following explains her line of thinking: When I do this, it looks a little strange because I'm pressing the side of my cheek on the base of my neck."Sorry." I say again. She moves closer to me in the distance that separates us. "I love you." She breathes a sigh of relief into my arms before she envelops me in a bear embrace and wraps her arms around me."I adore you too." I start by taking a few steps back from her, and then I go in for a passionate kiss on the lips. Since quite some time ago, I have been giving serious consideration to carrying out the aforementioned action with regard to my Alyanna. at least the Alyanna that I can remember from when I was younger."Let's go." Her voice can be heard uttering the phrases as she shows us the way out of the room.Although everyone else is in the same room, Charlie and Chris and I are watching the football game in the living r

CHAPTER 40: SHOCKED
I spring to my feet and immediately set Landon down on the chair before regaining my standing position. "Are you serious?" This is a question that I ask with my eyes starting to well up. I can't even begin to express how happy I am, yet at the same time, I have no idea what to make of this. It's been so long since I've experienced these emotions that I can't even remember the last time they came over me. If they ever did."Yeah, I am." "I'm sorry," she continues, grinning through the tears that are streaming down her face.I hear a lot of people praising one another and clapping their hands, in addition to a few other things, but all that I can think about is the beautiful woman who is standing in front of me. The transformation from a pleased to a sad countenance is so palpable that I can feel it happening to my face."What exactly is it that's bothering you?" Alyanna expresses her concern by asking the question. "Are you certain that you do not wish to have any more children?" She c
