Ava's POV“No. It's not!” I exclaimed, getting to my feet.I couldn't understand how he could be so chill about this. I just told him everything that I had been hiding from him. I was expecting some reaction. I expected him to get mad and yell at me or something, but instead, he was smiling.I couldn't understand it. I couldn't understand him. “How can you be okay with this? I just told you they sent me here to kill you!” I screamed the words at him.“But you didn't,” he muttered, folding his arms. He looked almost amused as he stared at me and I hated the way my heart reacted to that.“But I could have,” I insisted in a lower tone.“Yes, you could, but you didn't. I'm still here because you allowed it,” he said and shrugged, cocking his head a little, “I'm sure they know that too. You have been careless.”“Careless!” I echoed and smirked, “I spared you, dumbass!” I exclaimed, getting riled up again.“Dumbass,” he chuckled, “That’s a first,” he grinned, and I glared back at him in r

Miguel's POVThe darkness only lasted for a second."Miguel!" Ava yelled.Time stopped.Indira’s face turned morbid as her gaze fell on me, but the blood gushing out of her like a fountain, made it impossible for her to speak. One DiAngelo down. One more to go.I moved my gun to Lino, but before I could pull the trigger, he vanished. The Diangelos men began to shoot at me, and I yanked Ava into a corner, pressing her to the ground as bullets began to fly. My men attacked, and gunshots echoed through the air.I grabbed Ava by the wrist, taking the opportunity to get her away from the crossfire. I placed her in my vehicle and took her to a safe house where Mason was waiting.“You're bleeding,” she pointed out, staring at the blood stain on my shirt as I stopped the vehicle.I looked at myself, suddenly remembering the shot Indira had fired. It burned. But Ava didn't need to know that.“It's fine. It's just a scratch. How are you? Are you okay?”She shook her head, “You saved me. You w

Ava's POVMiguel's last words to me stung like bees. They were like quicksand, slowly sucking me into a puddle of pain. How dare he say that he didn't need me anymore after everything we've been through? And why did those words hurt so much? I veered my head to the elevator, catching his gaze for a second before the door closed, and that was it. Just like that, he was gone.I couldn't move, and my heart felt like it was collapsing on itself. It hurt so much more than I ever thought it would. My eyes pricked, and I could feel a tear threatening to slip out, but I held back. I brushed my hair behind my ear and took a final look back at the elevator before heading to the emergency ward to wait for Fernando.I was worried about him even more now that he had lost an eye. I still couldn't believe Miguel shot him in the eye. It had been the most unexpected incident, and my body was still trembling out of shock.Although, I think the shock was probably more of Miguel leaving like that. I wo

Ava's POVI sat in my hotel room, drinking coffee and watching the city from the glass windows. It was beautiful. Naples was more beautiful in my eyes today than in the past few months. I took a sip from my cup, reeling in my liberation.I was finally free from all of them—Fernando, the DiAngelos, and even Miguel. I was by myself now, with no one pulling my strings. I could do whatever I wanted. It was a relief, and yet I didn't feel entirely relieved. My heart still twisted each time I thought of him —Miguel. It had been weeks since I saw him last and I couldn't say I didn't miss him. I couldn't say that I didn't think of him, not seldom but all the time. I missed him so much.I did, but I had other things to worry about. Important things, even though they weren't enough to clear my mind of the thought of him.Miguel haunted my dreams and reality. I missed him terribly. It didn't change the fact that I couldn’t go back to him.I couldn’t. Not after what he did to Fernando, shooti

Miguel's POVShe couldn’t be serious. Leave the mafia? What did she think the mafia was to me? Some kind of factory work that I could just quit whenever I wanted?“Yes, Miguel. That's my condition. If you want me here, then you have to leave the mafia.”I glanced at Perez and then back at her. We couldn't talk about this here.“Let's talk upstairs,” I said, heading up to my bedroom, and she followed me. Once the door shut behind her, I turned to face her, “What the hell are you talking about? You can’t be serious.”“But I am.” “I can’t leave the mafia!” I enunciated, “It’s not possible.”“You can’t?” she quizzed and cocked her head, “Or you won't?” “Both.”“Okay. Then, I'll leave.” She turned to leave, but I grabbed her arm, pulling her back. I didn't want her to go. Not again. After all the torture her absence had brought me, I couldn't let her go.“What? You said you can’t accept my terms.”“Give me another condition, but not that one.”“Too bad. That's the only condition I have
