41: Did you kiss?

DanaJeremy had a hunch about what happened. He sat me down on the couch and brought me a glass of water to calm me down."Can you tell me what all that was about? What was Demian doing here? He was drunk. You should have called me so I could come right away.""He arrived a while before you. I don't know why he came here, or why he got drunk. I didn't know he was coming. He barged into the house without permission."Jeremy scanned my face carefully, searching for answers."What did you talk about?""Not much," I replied. It wasn't a lie, but I was missing an important detail."Dana, if something happened, I need you to tell me. Demian mentioned that something happened. Did you kiss?" he raised his eyebrows. He knew. Jeremy could read my thoughts. He wasn't foolish."Why do you think that?" my eyes filled with tears. I was afraid Jeremy knew the truth and would leave me. I didn't want to get divorced again. Jeremy was all I had left, and I cared about him deeply."Because you have lips

42: The first visit together

DanaThe tension in the air could be cut with a knife. Both wanted to kill each other, but I wasn't going to allow them to start a fight in the street. Demian's eagerness to stir up trouble between Jeremy and me got on my nerves, but we didn't have to play along. Demian was seeking a response from us, and we were giving it to him.I took Jeremy by the arm and forced him to walk towards our car. There was no point in continuing to fight."Where do you think you're going, Dana?" Demian asked, but I ignored him.I got into the car with Jeremy and forced him to start the damn car. Jeremy reluctantly obeyed me. He kept looking at Demian the whole time."Stop looking at him," I ordered. "That's what he wants.""I can't. He kissed you last night, Dana. In my house. You're my wife. Do you understand? I can't let him get away with it. I'll go tell Rachel what happened," he said as he started the car's engine and began to drive.Demian stayed behind us. He watched us as the car drove away from

43: Like you

DanaI had never seen Demian so excited, not even on our wedding night.Demian had tears in his eyes. But he was trying to appear tough. I've known him for years. I know he's not the person I thought he was, but there were certain attitudes and gestures of his that were ingrained, and I recognized them perfectly.Demian made me tear up, but I did shed tears. It wasn't the first time I saw my children inside me, but it was the first time I shared this unique moment with Demian. I suppose I got sensitive because of that."Wow, they're so beautiful. Don't you think?" Demian asked me.It seemed as if we had never been divorced. Demian's attitude was different from the man I encountered outside the house. The person beside me had a different energy. I felt that, for a moment, the Demian from before had returned. I guess that was what worried me the most because Demian would change his attitude as soon as he crossed the door."They're beautiful. I wonder who they'll resemble. I can't wait t

44: Complications

DemianEverything stirred within me when I saw our children on the screen. I felt like I was in another world, unable to wake up.The world ceased to exist for me. My heart raced a mile a minute, and a smile crept onto my face without permission. I imagined a life with my children and saw myself buying them toys and walking them to school hand in hand. I smiled because, for a moment, I felt complete. It had been a long time since I felt this way. I thought I would never feel so excited again. The last time was when I found out I would be a father to my future wife's child, but I lost the feeling of happiness due to the pain and anger generated by everything that happened with Dana.I held back the tears. But I did something unexpected: I kissed Dana's hand. But I kissed it tenderly. Why the hell did I kiss her tenderly? I didn't love her. I didn't care for her. Not after everything she did to me. Dana didn't deserve that from me.But my hand kept holding hers. They were stuck together

45: The awakening

DanaI don't know what happened after I felt so much pain in my stomach. The last thing I remember was that I vomited, and Demian was close to me. He looked at me in surprise and called for help, but I passed out.The pain disappeared. It stopped, and I was grateful, but my vision was dark.I didn't know where I was, but I knew this couldn't be real. Was I dreaming? Why couldn't I see anything? Where was I? What kind of dream was this?I heard voices in the distance and wondered who they were. Two men were arguing, but I couldn't understand what they were saying until the voices came closer. Then, I discovered who they belonged to.Demian and Jeremy. They were both fighting over me. Jeremy accused Demian of doing this to me while he wasn't around, but Demian didn't hurt me. On the contrary, I saw him as worried about me as never before. If there's something that stayed etched in my memory, it was the look of terror he gave me when I vomited blood.I wanted to defend Demian, but my lip

46: The visit

DanaI almost pushed Demian away from me because Jeremy's gaze pierced through me.I felt uncomfortable. But I didn't have the energy to worry too much about it. Demian understood why I did it, but he didn't care about his ex-best friend's presence.Jeremy handed me the glass of water in silence, and I drank it all. The doctors came to see me and told me they had no idea what was happening to me, so I had to stay in the hospital for a few days.I refused. They weren't going to solve my problems, and they didn't know what to do with me, so I preferred to be comfortable at home. Everyone disagreed, even Jeremy, but Demian sided with me. The vein in Jeremy's neck bulged with rage. But Jeremy relented and took me home on the condition that I be on an IV all day to keep my body functioning better. I had to accept.Three days passed since I was discharged. Three boring days in bed. I felt useless not being able to do anything. They recommended rest. The doctors didn't want me to get out of

47: Comfort

DanaHis delicate touch on my hand gave me chills.Demian smiled at me, and I couldn't help but smile back. It was an intimate moment because it was the first time in a long while that he and I managed to get along for more than ten minutes straight. Demian didn't stop holding my hand, and I was grateful for it inside."Have you had dinner? Do you want me to order something to eat? You need to eat well. What do you feel like having? Do you want dessert? An ice cream?" Demian bombarded me with his questions."I've had dinner. Thanks. But I'm not in the mood to eat. I was thinking of sleeping.""Should I go?" he asked."No, no," I said quickly, stopping him from getting up from the bed. "You can stay a while."There was silence between us. Demian couldn't stop looking at me, and I couldn't stop looking at him."Shouldn't you be with Rachel? She must need you.""Her family is with her. Your father is at my house," he mentioned. That man was my biological father, but I didn't consider him

48: Dad

DanaWhen I opened my eyes, I noticed the mattress sunken beside me. The room was almost dark, but I recognized Demian's face next to me.It was hard to believe, but we had slept in the same bed after months of not doing so. I could catch every little detail of his face and felt tempted to touch it while he slept. I always had the habit of touching Demian's face when I saw him sleeping, but I no longer had the right to do so.My eyes were not content with just looking at him. My hands had an uncontrollable desire to feel his skin, but I knew I shouldn't do it. I didn't want Demian to wake up. Meanwhile, Demian slept peacefully beside me, and I wondered why he stayed.I remember falling asleep on his shoulder. I cried until I had no energy left. He laid me in bed for my comfort, but I don't know why he stayed with me. He could have left, but he chose to stay with me and keep me company.Demian didn't make it easy for me. While I wanted to forget him, Demian did everything possible not t

49: The invitation

DanaI lost count of how long it had been since I felt my father's arms around me. A lump formed in my throat, but I mustered non-existent strength and promised myself I wouldn't shed a tear in front of him.Dad didn't deserve my tears. He had humiliated me before and hurt my mother. I didn't understand how he had the nerve to come to my mother's house to see me. I didn't want to imagine my mother's face when she saw him standing at her door. I knew they hadn't seen each other in years.Dad tightened his embrace. He stroked my back as if we were close and he was happy to see me. I knew he had some bad intention. I didn't know what he wanted to talk to me about. He and I had nothing to do with each other. He made that clear years ago.I felt confused. I didn't know how he found me here, but I guessed that Demian had told him about my stay at my mother's house. It bothered me that Demian shared that information with my father. He had no reason to do so. Last night, I fell asleep crying

50: What you're doing?

Dana"Can I know what you're doing, Dana?" my mother asked me seriously."I don't know what you're thinking, Mom, but nothing happened with Demian. The only thing that connects us is our children, and he came to see me because he was worried about me. The question is why did you listen to Jeremy about not letting Demian in? It's not your decision. It's mine. I'm not five years old, Mom.""You refused to leave Jeremy when I told you to. Respect your husband, Dana. When Jeremy returns, Demian can come to see you.""Are you punishing me? Mom, not everything is as easy as you think.""What happened while Demian was here? Because even the sheets smell like his cologne."I was guilty. Demian and I didn't have an intimate moment last night, but he slept in the same bed as me until morning. It wasn't proper for a married woman. If Jeremy did that with a woman, I would be upset. I haven't behaved well. I stopped acting rightly a long time ago."I didn't sleep with him, if that's what you're th
