Chapter 1

The day of my daughter's fifth birthday was the seventh wedding anniversary between me and James Frost. On the same morning, before he went to work, I begged him to come home early so that we could celebrate our daughter's birthday. As for our wedding anniversary, it didn't matter to me if we celebrated it or not.We never did anyway. He nodded, which was his way of saying yes. However, he still wasn't home at nine o'clock in the evening.I sent him a message asking him when he was coming home, but he didn't reply.I tried calling him, but he hung up instantly.Looking at the screen of my phone, my heart ached.I knew James hated me. That was why his attitude towards me over the past seven years had always been indifferent. I never complained about it either.I just told myself that I brought this on myself. I fell in love with someone I shouldn't have.I was willing to be a replacement. However, our daughter was innocent. He shouldn't treat her like this as well.Laura's

Chapter 2

James glared at me coldly and then went back to his room with Brenda in his arms.I then carried Laura to the table in my arms and was going to celebrate her birthday."Mom, does Dad not like me?" Laura asked all of a sudden.I didn't want Laura to be filled with hatred, so I lied to her. "Laura's a good girl, why would Dad not like you?""Then why doesn't he carry me in his arms?" Laura lowered her head and began crying.I kissed her pink cheeks, but didn't know how to comfort her.'Silly child. Your dad wants you dead, so there's no way that he would want to carry you in his arms,' I thought.I couldn't help but start crying again. My tears landed on the back of Laura's head. She reached out and tried to wipe away my tears."Don't cry, Mom. I don't want Dad to carry me anymore. It's all my fault that you're crying again."James walked out of the bedroom and frowned when he saw Laura and me crying."Catherine, we need to talk."I wiped away the tears on my face. "What do y

Chapter 3

James still hadn't returned the next morning when I was sending Laura to the nursery.I thought he wouldn't come home for a while like before after what happened last night. However, I was wrong again. When I got home, James was calling his mother and asking her how to make oat porridge. He said that Brenda wanted to have oat porridge.Looking at the man who had never cooked before, being busy in the kitchen with a pink apron on, my heart couldn't help but ache again. It was a good thing that Laura wasn't home.If she was, she would probably be crying again.Seeing me return, Brenda stood up from the sofa and rushed into the kitchen to wrap her arms around James's leg."Dad, that evil woman is back. I'm scared."James bent down and picked Brenda up with one hand as he continued cooking with the other."Don't be scared, Brenda. Your Dad's Superman. I'll protect you."Such a warm scene made my eyes feel like they were burning and tears quickly welled up in them.I walked to

I felt that James would be overjoyed. After all, he loved Nova Collins so much.Even though she abandoned him for a rich guy seven years ago, he still loved her.He loved her to the core.As for me, the wife that stood by his side as he started his own company, was just an object that could satisfy his needs. He would wave at me when he needed me and would give me the silent treatment when he didn't.However, he was the one who begged me to marry him all those years back. Why did he treat me like this after I agreed to marry him?I felt that I had been a fool as well.He probably begged me to marry him because of the money that I had.He would no longer need me after he got the money. Therefore, he had lost his patience with me as well."Mom..." Laura suddenly woke up.I felt that she was very uncomfortable because her voice was like a whisper.I got rid of all the thoughts in my head and went to the side of the bed to comfort her."How do you feel, sweetheart? Do you stil

Chapter 5

I hadn't seen my parents or brothers for eight years. I bought them quite a lot of presents as well.I also introduced my daughter to them as well. "Mom, Dad, Luke, Emma, Jacob, and Jane, this is my daughter, Laura. She's just turned five two days ago."They all nodded indifferently, which made me feel awkward.Just when I didn't know what to do, James walked through the door with Brenda in his arms and Nova."Mom, Dad, we're back." Nova's voice was very sweet.A faint smile appeared on James's usually cold face as well. "Mr. and Mrs. Somerfield."My parents and two brothers immediately greeted them with a smile."Nova, James, you're finally here. Oh, Brenda's here as well. Come and give your grandma a hug.""Uncle Jacob wants a hug as well. I've bought you a piano. Let's head upstairs and take a look.""Give your grandpa a hug as well. I'll take you to the theme park."Brenda was surrounded by everyone like a princess and had a bright smile on her face.Laura held my hand a

James kept his head lowered and didn't look at me at all.I guessed that he wanted to divorce me as well. That way, he could successfully become Brenda's father and Nova's husband. He could also be the official son-in-law of the Somerfield family. However, I wasn't going to let him get what he wanted."I'm sorry, but the divorce is a matter between me and James. It has nothing to do with anyone else."With that said, I turned on my heels to leave.Jacob's cursing sounded from behind as I left. "Look at her. She's not grateful at all.""Don't say that, Jacob. It's not her fault that the nurses made a mistake at the hospital. Let's not bring the divorce up again in the future. We can't ruin her family because of Brenda.""How are you ruining her family?" Jacob was still mad. "James loves you, not her. I'm suggesting this for her own could. Instead of torturing each other, why can't she give both of them a better time by getting a divorce? Am I right, James?"I didn't hear James'

Chapter 7

The day when we moved house, James stood at the door with a dark face."Catherine, do you think you're still a three-year-old? Why are you being so childish? I can't believe you're doing this just because I said something that you didn't like to hear."I remained silent and stood outside my new house. I just watched the cleaner cleaning my house.Laura seemed to be a little scared of James. She kept her arms wrapped around my legs the whole time.Brenda, on the other hand, held a doll in her hand with a proud look on her face. There was a ding, and the members of the Somerfield family walked out of the elevator. They ignored me and walked straight into James's house. They hugged and kissed Brenda."Hey, darling, are you happy living with your dad?""Look at what Uncle Jacob bought you, Brenda?"They only seemed to have remembered me a while later."What are you doing standing there? Go and make Brenda some food!" said Jacob.'Well, looks like they really think I'm a nanny. D

Chapter 8

I closed the door with an indifferent look on my face and then bent down to comfort Laura."What's up, crybaby? Why are you crying again?"Laura continued sobbing. "Let me give you a rub, Mom. It'll ease the pain.""I'm not in pain at all." I picked Laura up in my arms and sat down on the sofa.I began to think that living too close to James wasn't exactly a good thing.Brenda was really important to the Somerfield family, so they would definitely come to James's house very often.Laura would be upset every time they showed up. This might lead to her having mental illnesses in the future. I had to rethink the arrangements for Laura's future. On the morning of the next day. I sent Laura to school and went to a charity house to see if Laura could be sent there after I died. The manager, Mrs. Brown, told me that Laura was not eligible to be taken in by the charity house.I cried and begged, "Mrs. Brown, I'm dying. My parents are dead, her father and his parents doesn't love her a

Chapter 9

I had to take quite a lot of painkillers after arriving back home to ease the pain.I lay on the sofa with my eyes closed and felt that dying just like that would be a good thing. There wouldn't be any more pain if I died."Mom..." Laura quickly ran over to me and wrapped her arms around me. "I don't want Dad anymore. I don't want Mom to be in a quarrel with Mr. Frost."'Mr. Frost?' I wondered. It took me a while to realize that Laura was referring to James."Aw, don't cry, Laura. I promise you that I won't quarrel with him anymore."I pulled Laura into my arms and rested my chin on her forehead. Tears trickled down my face uncontrollably. That was when my phone suddenly started ringing. It was my best friend, Rory Lister.I quickly wiped the tears from my face and asked Laura to sit by my side before accepting the video call request."What made you call me today, Rory?" I asked.Rory smiled. "I just finished today's shooting and suddenly remembered that it was Laura's birth

Chapter 10

Rory came back at eight o'clock in the morning on Friday. She didn't even have time to head back home and rushed straight to Laura's nursery. She began kissing and hugging Laura as soon as she arrived. "I'm sorry, Laura. I was caught up in something, so I'm a little late.""You're not late, Aunt Rory." Laura shook her head with a smile. "Thank you for coming, Aunt Roy. I'll treat you to some food later on."Rory laughed at those words and rubbed Laura's head. "I have a big appetite. Do you think you have enough money?""Yep!" Laura took out a piggy bank from her bag and passed it to Rory. "This should be enough. I have quite a lot of money in there.""Alright! Then I'll definitely..."Before Rory could finish speaking, I saw James and Nova at either side of Brenda as they walked towards the gates of the nursery.I stood at the entrance and felt a little jealous when I saw how happy the family of three was. However, after feeling jealous, all I had left was hatred."That's Jame
