When Janet knocked and entered Edwin’s office Edwin was as clueless as Janet was.He understood Janet was avoiding him and he also didn’t want to face her, as he was clear who had initiated the previous night’s incident.Even if he was drunk, he couldn’t blame Janet who only wanted to take care of a drunk person.Edwin felt guilty thinking about how he had lost control and decided to stay away from Janet before he figured out what was happening to him.“Mr. Wilson, you asked for me?” Janet asked nervously and Edwin was also surprised.“Did I?” Edwin asked, and Janet gave him a confused look.“Elisa…” Janet said and Edwin realized what was happening.“Oh! Elisa. It’s fine.” Edwin said and closed the file he was working on.His sister was meddling too much in his business, but he couldn’t expose her in front of Janet.“Where were you all day? Why I didn’t see you?” Edwin asked, which made Janet look downwards with a guilty conscious. She was fidgeting with her fingers nervously.“Last n

The next morning, when Janet woke up, she noticed Ben was ordering a staff to arrange the groceries.Janet noticed the kitchen was getting stored with everything a person needed to cook and even she was surprised to see all these arrangements.“I have arranged everything, Miss brown. You can check if you need anything else,” Ben informed Janet, but Janet couldn’t understand what was happening there.“Me?” Janet asked to confirm.“Mr. Wilson ordered me to arrange everything, and he wants you to cook dinner for you two from now on,” Ben said and Janet understood what was happening. When Edwin proposed this idea last night, she thought he was just pulling her legs. But noticing the arrangement now, she realized he wasn’t joking.Did he really like her cooking so much, Janet wondered.“It’s more than enough,” Janet said feeling embarrassed. She couldn’t cook every dish, just some home-cooked meals her mother had taught her. What would she do with all those things? There were some imported

The next day, when Janet woke up, she found herself in her room. She clearly remembered she was sitting on the sofa and maybe dozed off while waiting for Edwin. But what surprised her was that she was comfortably tucked inside her bed when she woke up.She got down and put on her slippers to walk toward Edwin’s room but found it empty. It was still early for office hours, but she didn’t bother and get ready for office. The dinner she had kept for Edwin was still untouched and lying on the table.Anyone would think he hadn’t returned, but he had changed his clothes, and his last night’s shirt was lying on the laundry basket.Janet didn’t know why he didn’t wake her up when it was undeniable that Edwin must have carried her to her bedroom.Janet didn’t know why she was feeling something amiss, but she didn’t get a clue and could only leave for the office after finishing her breakfast. The day wasn’t going as she expected. This was the third time Edwin ordered to redo a file and Janet did

That day, when Janet returned, she didn’t think Edwin would wait for her, nor did she expect good behavior from him. After what happened in the office, she thought Edwin would stay distant, but finding Edwin sitting in the living room wearing his night suit and working on his laptop she was confused.Edwin normally would work in his study room.If he was sitting here, it only meant he was waiting for her.“Mr. Wilson.” Janet didn’t know what to say, but she didn’t want them to stay awkward and if she needed to break the ice she didn’t mind.“Where were you? Why did you take leave without my permission?” Edwin was back in his grumpy mood, noticing Janet returned this late.It was already dinner time, and she was out the entire day without informing him. When he heard it from Ben, he couldn’t contain his anger. He even canceled one of his meetings and returned home to wait for

They sat back and waited for the rain to stop and this time they were silent. They didn’t know whether it was them enjoying the rain or the comforting silence between them.It was Edwin who broke the silence.“I was sixteen when my parents died. I was in my final year of college and besides my college studies, I was helping my dad in his business. My Grandmother was sick, so my grandfather took early retirement after my father finished college. I also wanted to help my father as he helped his.” Edwin was talking about his past. The part of his life he never shared with anyone.“But I didn’t think I would have to take control because Dad and Mom won’t return from that trip.” Edwin’s voice shook and Janet never thought the person who was handling everything so perfectly was hiding a deep wound inside him.Janet held his hand, giving him comfort, and Edwin didn’t pull back. It’s been so many years, but his wound was raw, not healing a bit. He just made a scab around it, hiding it from eve
