Kayla's POV In my wolf form, I padded closer, the bridge of my nose twitching for a scent. Whoever had done this may still be lurking around.Angling my head I sniffed the air and listened for a sound but there was no other. Expect the slowing heart beat of the victim.I crept a little closer, watching his chest rise and fall in shallow breaths. My heart tightened, torn between fear and compassion. I circled him slowly, scanning again, desperate for any hint of danger. But still, the air carried no one else’s scent. Just him.I lowered my head, inhaling closer. His wounds were fresh, deep gashes that I suspected were inflicted by a wolf.I hesitated for one last second, then made my choice.Carefully, I lowered my body, shifting my weight so I could nudge him up onto my back. My wolf grunted under his weight, my legs trembling as I lifted him. He groaned faintly, but he didn’t wake.
