Chapter 1

“Miss River, your cancer is almost at the stage where it’s uncontrollable. You can’t drag this out any further.”Even when I was about to reach the door of the private room where my former classmates had gathered, I could still hear the doctor’s words echoing in my head. How could my cancer have reached such a serious stage? My mind was blank.Just when I was about to turn the doorknob, I heard loud cheering from inside. Through the small gap, I saw Ron Stone sitting down. Beside him was a familiar woman. The womanizing Ron had one woman he loved the most—Flora Lorde, his first love.Oh. She was back in the country. That must be why Ron was seldom at the company nowadays. In the past, I would be really anxious and panicky about Flora’s presence. But at present, I only laughed at myself. My body was like a candle in the wind. I no longer had the strength to fight for anything anymore. For some reason, I did not go in. Despite having one person missing from the gathering

In the end, I did not go in.I went back home instead. With a face full of tears, I turned on my laptop and typed my resignation letter.I did run for Ron’s secretary all for Ron’s sake. But I was actually overqualified for it.To tell the truth, Stone Corp had not even met my expectations at that time because it was on the verge of going under. But I was cheap and naive. All I thought about was how I could help Ron while he was in trouble and after Flora abandoned him to pursue her studies abroad.I kept on helping until this very moment, and all I did was make others think I was being a bother.I wiped away the tears that were about to fall from my eyes.I had to thank Flora for coming back. She made me see the truth and let me have the courage to be my own self in the final moments of my life. The next afternoon, someone came into my office. Although I was expecting her, I was still surprised to see her.“How may I help you, Miss Lorde?”Flora raised her chin coldly and

“Mr. Stone?”While I was taken aback by the knowledge that Ron was at the door, Flora broke free of my grasp and fell to the side.“Ah!”When Ron came in, he saw Flora falling on the floor. “Flora!” He quickly rushed over and carefully helped her up.I had never seen him so anxious before.“Willow, are you crazy?!” he practically yelled. Feeling at a loss, I tried to defend myself. “I did not—”But Flora interrupted me.“Ron, don’t blame her… She’s just fulfilling her duties as a secretary and didn’t want me to go into your office to look for you. Then, I accidentally…” As she spoke, she started crying. Everyone in the office aside from me thought that she had suffered some great injustice.Ron gently picked Flora up and gave me a cold sneer. “Miss River, you’re just a secretary. Stop vying for things that will never come to be. Flora is a kind soul, so she won’t hold this against you. But if this happens again…”He gave me the ruthless expression I was incredibly familiar

Ron asked me to bring food to him, to run errands for him, to be Flora’s scapegoat… I did whatever he asked me to do.I even saw him kissing Flora in an empty classroom before.I watched him pass out drunk on the street alone because his family was in trouble and Flora left the country. When Stone Corp was on the verge of collapse, I worked with him day and night to resolve all sorts of problems. I was the one who handled all the dirty things he could not bring himself to do.To other people, I had an unpleasantly forceful and crass image.Over the years, he would occasionally give me a kiss or two, as if he was handing out charity.I asked him what our relationship was.He just smiled and told me to behave, just like how he spoke to me all those years ago.He was always generous to his lovers, but when it came to me, he just told me to behave. That was why everyone said I was Ron’s most loyal dog.I once dreamt of us being together, but because of what Ron said, that dre

Don’t go.Please choose me this once.Please.But he still left.He cruelly pried my fingers off and went to the side to answer Flora’s call. With a gentle voice, he promised that he was going to go to her immediately.Once done, he came back and said, “You really will say anything just to keep me around, huh? Flora has always been fragile, unlike you.”After taking a few steps away, Ron saw that I was still sitting on the ground, so he came back and said impatiently, “If you’re feeling sick, then sit here and wait for me. Once I visit Flora, I’ll come back and take you to the doctor.”The wind was strong.I moved my hand away from my mouth. It was red with blood.I started counting the fallen leaves. Even when night fell, Ron still did not show up....Autumn had arrived. It was so cold....That liar.I transferred to another hospital. The thought of staying in the same hospital as Flora made my skin crawl. So, after some thinking, I just decided to switch hospitals

Chapter 6

Before I was pushed into the operating room, I received a message from an unknown number. It was an intimate photo of Flora laying on a sleeping Ron’s arm while she gave a challenging look at the camera lens, and by extension, me.I already knew who sent the photo.I laughed.Over this period of time, Ron called me a lot of times, but I blacklisted all of his numbers. All I wanted to do at present was to give him one final gift.I wrote my will.In it, I wrote a short summary of my thought process during the ten years I loved him.Honestly, I did not think he was going to care. He might not even read the message, but I still wrote it in order to write this one sentence down at the end.[During the last moments of my life, I just want to say this: Ron Stone, I hate you.]My crazed love had seeped into my flesh and bones, and it tore me apart.I told him plenty of times before that I loved him, but this was the one and only time I said I hated him. After I said those words, i

I was grateful. But it had been a long time since he told me that he had arrived downstairs. I was a little worried, so I headed downstairs to look. When I got down, I saw Ron grabbing a fistful of Erwin’s shirt, and he was about to hit him.I hurried over to break them up, then shielded Erwin behind me while I glared at him warily.Ron looked as if he was hurt by my actions. With trembling fingers, he tried to touch me, but I avoided him.“Mr. Stone, it’s not right for you to hit someone in public on New Year’s Eve.”His expression became twisted. He pointed at us and asked in a trembling voice, “Are you with him? I see… That’s why he lied to me and said that you died. He even helped you hide so far away that I couldn’t find you…”“Who I date is none of your business.”“How could it not be?! You’ve been trying to win my heart for ten years! We…” His voice faded away, and Ron looked increasingly dejected.I sneered. “Yes. I’ve been trying to win your heart for ten years, but i

Erwin forced a smile. “I can understand. He saved you, and I’m thankful too. He’s pretty badly injured, and he’s in the ward right next to yours. I can bring you over to visit him.”He paused for a moment. Then, as if he summoned his courage, he looked at me and said, “Once you’ve visited him, will you still come back?”I found his expression funny. He looked anxious. It was as if he was worried that I would go back to Ron. But at the same time, I pitied him for having no sense of security with me.I hugged him tightly.“Have more confidence in yourself, silly. “I love you.”Ron was indeed hurt badly. He had multiple parts of his body wrapped up in casts. When I saw him looking like this, I did not know what to say.Once he saw me, he gave me an easy smile. “Hey. Come, sit.”I sat down, just as he asked. “Thanks.”He chuckled, “Will you give me a chance, then?”“No.” I rejected him without hesitation. He was stunned for a moment before he smiled bitterly. “Willow, you’ve
