Sadie’s POV“Soldier! Lock Sadie in her room! She’s not to leave until the Lycan Prince’s Luna selection day.”I’d been locked away in my bedroom ever since my father, Alpha Abram issued the command a week ago. Soldiers stood guard at my door, taking turns in shifts. I couldn’t even peek my head out my door, let alone leave!I paced around my bedroom nervously. I was waiting for my sister, Delphine. My heart pounded in my chest and my hands shook. I rubbed them together as I paced. My mind whirled. What if he changed his mind? What if he called it off? I tried to force the intrusive thoughts from my head.He wouldn’t. Not Karter. He loved me and I loved him. We were mates.Which is why we’d decided to defy my father and run away together from the Night Shade Pack.Any moment now Delphine would knock on my door. We’d swap clothes and I’d sneak out of my room, past the guards, and into Karter’s arms. And then? We’d be free.My heart ached for Karter. I longed to hear his voice, to feel

Sadie’s POVI followed the soldier slowly down the hall toward the Lycan Prince. My heart was heavy with the weight of my decision. Could I really do this? Could I really enter the Luna Selection knowing that I might have to give up Karte forever?I felt like the world was collapsing all around me, like the corridor walls were closing in on me as we walked. The guilt clawed at me, making it hard to breathe as I thought of Karter. How could I ever face him after this?My room was just up ahead. My heart ached as I thought about the note from Karter, the one that asked me to run away with him. I’d been so happy that day. I’d been so…A strange noise came from my bedroom, stopping me dead in my tracks. I listened. I heard voices inside the room, familiar ones. My wolf was suppressed so I couldn’t rely on her hearing. I struggled to hear the sounds better. They were moans, I realized. I glanced from the door to the soldier. He must have been able to tell by the look on my face that stoppi

Sadie’s POVI whipped my head towards the Lycan Prince seated in the shadows. He abruptly stood up, his movement startlingly fluid for someone his size. Standing at his full height, he was much taller than I’d expected. Lycans were naturally more robust than werewolves, possessing a superior strength. But the Lycan Prince was even more imposing. I gasped despite myself as my eye scanned his broad shoulders, his perfectly chiseled muscles apparent under his tailored clothing. His very presence demanded attention, and as he rose, all eyes shifted from the golden slate to him. The she-wolves stared in admiration as he stepped out of the shadows, finally revealing his face for the first time. The moment his full face came into view, the crowd fell silent. His thick brows and full lashes framed his piercing blue eyes, the color of the ocean and just as deep. He had a perfectly sculpted nose that sat directly above a set of sensual, thick lips. His jawline was sharp enough to cut stone. My

Sadie’s POVI inhaled sharply. I had nothing left here. Karter had broken my heart and I’d broken the matebond with him. My dear sister, whom I’d loved fiercely, had betrayed me. The Prince was offering to release my father. Was that not why I entered the Luna Selection in the first place? In the hopes that I could free my father? The choice to go with the Prince was more appealing now than ever. If it guaranteed my father’s release, then I would go. “If I have your word that you’ll release my father, I will come with you to the Lycan Palace,” I stated. The Prince looked as though he already anticipated my decision, like he knew I was going to accept. A knowing smile tugged at his lips. His eyes left mine as he snapped his fingers at his Beta, signalling that it was time to go. The Prince turned to leave. But before he did, he turned back to me, his back facing the crowd. Our eyes locked again, but he looked at me differently this time. His eyes bore into mine. He looked at me as

Griffin’s POVThe maids greeted me at the door, taking my coat. “Did you have a nice trip, your highness?” one of the maids asked. But I waved her off. I was in no mood for pleasantries. The image of Sadie, her hand on the Sacred Stone, the ancient runes floating in the air accosted my mind. We had found her. After months of searching, discarding one she-wolf after another, we’d finally found the she-wolf that could awaken the stone. I needed to tell my father immediately. He would be overcome with joy. But there’s one problem. A serious one, at least for Lycans.Turns out, she was wolfless, a twist I hadn’t seen coming. I wasn’t sure how my father would react to that particular news. But I was eager to find out. I swung open the doors to my father’s office and sure enough, he was there, sipping his nightly bourbon and puffing on a cigar. “Son,” he greeted me as I entered, his face lighting up. “You’ve returned?”“Yes,” I confirmed, taking a seat at the desk. “And what news do
