In the blink of an eye, summer break had arrived. I had arranged for Bethany and the others to work at my family's factory, just as they had requested. Looking at the gates before me, I couldn't help but shrink back a little. My father's factory had been around for as long as anyone could remember. It was said that it had existed since some ancient golden age.Most people dismissed that as a rumor. After all, how could a factory possibly last that long? But I knew that was the truth."Ms. Parker, what made you decide to come back this year? Chapter 4

After leaving my mother's room, I followed the woman beside me and soon found the workstations where Bethany and the others had been assigned. My father had separated them, refusing to let them stay together.I reached Bethany's workstation first. She had been given the task of sorting clothes. Looking at the piles stacked around her, I silently wished her good luck.The moment I entered the warehouse, Bethany started complaining. "Melanie Parker, didn't I tell you to get us cushy positions? When I found Charlotte, she was already so tormented that she looked nothing like her usual self. My arrival was clearly a relief to her."That father of yours dumped me in this hellhole! I've been working nonstop, and now I'm exhausted. I haven't had a moment's rest since I got here. Sure enough, under everyone's gaze, the young woman who had just run out was instantly enveloped in black mist as soon as she stepped out of the cafeteria. A scream echoed from within, and the mist slowly transformed into a red, blood-like fog. When the red fog finally dissipated, all that remained on the ground were bloodstains and a few bones. At that sight, the remaining few abandoned any thoughts of escaping.It was the first time I had seen such fear in their eyes. It had been ages since the factory's dormitory was last renovated, and it looked like it could crumble at any moment."Isn't anyone else staying here? Why isn't there a single light on?" one of them asked cautiously.I checked my watch, then explained, "We spent quite some time at the cafeteria earlier, so the lights are already out. I'll take you to the dorm. Once you're there, just go to bed."With that, I escorted them up to the fourth floor.After they chose their bed, I turned and left. Just like the night before, a plate was placed in front of Charlotte.
