ROBERTAs soon as I got to my office, I first set out to go through one thing—the file. I inputted the code on my safe and it clicked open. I brought out the file Davis had been working on. My hand wiped the face off invisible dust. This wasn't any part of business, but still, it was going to be one of my greatest accomplishments. I went back to my seat and settled myself down. A small headache still lingered somewhere in my head, but I decided if I ignored it, then it would definitely subside. I opened the file and spread it out on my desk. I picked up the external drive Davis had left for me in our last meeting. Davis was the private investigator that had been on the case of my parents' death. The drive contained the recordings of a CCTV footage. I connected it to my laptop and played it. Just few minutes into the recording, a light knock came on the door. Somehow, I had the feeling that it was her. Well, my guess was correct. The words that Mia had said last night hit my gut,

ROBERTThe question caught me completely off guard. My throat went dry at the taunting question Bryan threw at me."I don't think that is important right now?" I couldn't believe how stern my voice sounded. "Mia can act like a child and throw whatever tantrums she wanted, you know how she is."He took that as a wise cue to drop the topic."I met with Stiles. How's his performance so far?"Bryan had been the one who recommended him to me. Stiles had been more like Bryan's mentee. He had been trained directly by him and when I needed someone to fill the position of head of marketing, Bryan had offered Stiles up for the position, and to be honest and very fair, he had been doing great at his job. I was going to praise him, but when I recalled how he had gripped Isla's hand at the hall way that day, every praise and good remark I had saved for him vanished out of my thoughts. "His performance?" I repeated, a frown crawling up my face. "Hmm, Look, I don’t know what’s going on with our m

ROBERTI nodded. It wouldn't be right to tell her.If I was to make any move, it had to be now. All the questions that were popping in my head would only be answered when I go to the company. I signalled a waiter and he walked up to us in hurried steps."Good day…..""Pack our food please, make it quick." I cut off the formality. He nodded quickly and getting the urgency in my tone, he dashed away to get the take out wraps. I hoped to God that Isla doesn't come across it. I couldn't even begin to imagine Maosn and Olivia's reaction when they found out. "Robert?" Her voice pulled me out of my thoughts. "Isla, I'm very sorry, but something really urgent just came up, we have to leave."A look of panic crossed her face. "Is everything alright, Robert?"The incessant questions were getting at me. My brain was only thinking of just one thing—how to clear this mess! That was if it wasn't already beyond saving."I just need to take care of something at the company."She gave me a puzzle

ISLA. I sat on my chair, feeling confused. Robert hadn't specifically told me what he said was wrong, but somehow I felt it was something very serious. I stared blankly at the screen of my phone contemplating really hard; Should I call him? Well, what if he ignored the call as usual? That was his own dope coping mechanism— shutting me out In my dilemma, the door to my office creaked open. I looked up to see Mia standing by the door. Her eyes flashing puzzled looks at me. "Where is Robert?" She asked as she took calculative steps towards me. She had this condescending look that always made me felt like her little prey. I had a confused frown crawling up my face. Wasn't he with her?"He...I don't know." I muttered. "You don't even know, do you?" Her eyes had that scornful look, like I irritated her. I really needed to know why Robert had left his lunch and hurried here. What could have happened? Well, there's only one person who would tell me. "What?" I blurted out, genuinely cu

ISLA "Mmhh, this…" I pointed down at the food. "...this is lovely." I mumbled, over mouthful of food. "Is it?" He shot his brows up. Somehow, when he gave me that intense look, it made me hot all over. I nodded. "I think it tastes even better than what we had at that restaurant, right?." Robert nodded, a smile crawling up his face. "Well, that's because it's my recipe." He pointed out. I rolled my eyes at him. "Proud much. I can't wait to eat yours." His eyes flashed questioningly at me. "Eat yours?" My cheeks colored furiously over the realization that he was reading a different meaning to what I had just said. I shook my head, reaching out for a glass of water, because the air suddenly felt choked and too tensed. "Oh please." I gasped. "I meant the salmon." He cocked his brows up. "Are you okay?" I nodded a yes. "I'm fine." The rest of our dinner went on with stolen glances and warm gentle smiles. Somehow, I found myself thinking— what would it be like to be the wom
