Chapter 1

The first thing I did after regaining my sight was to look for my husband.I couldn't wait to share the good news with him, to celebrate together. But when I returned home, the sight before me struck me like a knife to the heart. In the bedroom, Luci Dalgon was entangled with another woman. His eyes were clouded with desire, his voice hoarse, his body moving rhythmically. Beneath him, Jasmine Barns clawed her nails into his back, her voice restrained as she whispered, "Wait… not yet. She's here…"But Luci, caught in the heat of the moment, only moved more fervently.Sensing his heightened passion, Jasmine smirked, her gaze falling mockingly on me. She pulled him closer, as if she wanted to meld him into her very being."Ah!" he groaned loudly, his voice rough with frustration. "Oh, I couldn't hold back… now I'll have to switch to another one."Jasmine handed him the used contraceptive, her eyes signaling what needed to be done. "She's back. Go deal with her."My face turned pa

I ended the telepathic call, but the high priestess's excited voice still echoed in my ears. My mind wandered back to the promises Luci had once made to me."I never thought there'd be a goddess living in the forest, let alone one as beautiful and enchanting as you. Will you leave the forest and come with me to the human world?""I'll make you the happiest woman on earth.""Don't worry. You've given up your life as a witch and left the forest for me. I'll love only you for the rest of my life. I'll never betray you, never leave you."The man was still the same man, but his promises had become unrecognizable, warped beyond recognition. Once, I couldn't bear to part with him. I gave up the divine position of the high priestess and all the medical knowledge that came with it. But now, what was left for me to hold on to?It was time to leave. The high priestess and I had agreed to meet in half a month. That meant I had only half a month left with Luci in this lifetime.I wasn't

Chapter 3

When I woke up again, a glass of warm milk had been placed on the bedside table."I took the day off just to spend it with you," Luci said casually, his body draped in a bathrobe, covered in a dense pattern of kiss marks.I turned my face away, unwilling to look.He fastened my favorite necklace around my neck, his voice soft and coaxing. "I've made a reservation tonight at your favorite restaurant. It's by the sea, with the best ocean view you love."But I couldn't see anymore. What good was an ocean view to me now?Suddenly, I remembered. Jasmine grew up by the sea.Of course. He'd managed to hide living together with her from me—why wouldn't tonight's dinner include her as well?I smiled bitterly. Luci mistook it for happiness and kissed me immediately. That evening, the restaurant had been booked out entirely by him.He even invited the band Jasmine liked and arranged for a drone light show.I ate the food, which wasn't to my taste, while catching glimpses of his arm, whi

When I was left standing there, all alone, I felt the weight of the band's silent judgment pressing down on me."To end up like this as a woman—what a failure.""Absolutely pathetic and useless."I had once been revered as the Forest Witch, a healer of all things in the woods. Outsiders had treated me with awe, bowing for nine hundred and ninety-nine days outside the forest just for a glimpse of me. And yet now, here I was, surrounded by disdain, looked down upon by these very same people.Gripping the knife and fork in my hand, I drove them hard into the flesh of the meat on my plate. If Luci claimed he couldn't live without me, then I would make sure he'd lose me forever.I stood up, adjusted my clothes, and walked to the door of the private room. Peering through the narrow crack, I saw them entwined, their bodies glistening in the dim light.Jasmine's flushed expression resembled a rose damp with dew, seductive and captivating."Hold me tighter. Yes, like that… harder...""A

I stumbled back to the house where Luci and I had once lived. This was the place where countless sweet moments had unfolded between us.It was here he brought me into the world he called home, introducing me to the rushing cars, the towering buildings that pierced the sky, and all the shiny, unfamiliar gadgets people seemed to treasure. My awkward attempts to fit into his world never failed to amuse him; every time, he would laugh, his eyes soft with patience, before guiding me through the process once more."That's the range hood, and that's the washing machine. You use it like this," he would say, demonstrating step by step. And when I made mistakes, breaking something or pressing the wrong button, he would shrug it off with a laugh."It doesn't matter. If it's broken, we'll replace it. I have money, more than enough. As long as you're happy, nothing else matters."He said it more than once: the women he'd known before me were shallow, either chasing after his looks or his wea

Chapter 6

Luci stormed to the car, his face twisted with anger, and roared, "Where's the driver!?"When the driver finally appeared, Luci slapped him hard across the face. "If I don't make it to the station in time, you'll be out of a job!"The car sped recklessly down the road, the driver's hands gripping the wheel, Luci clutching his phone, fingers trembling as he furiously typed out messages.Luci: [Mable, where are you?]Luci: [Mable, don't leave me, please. I know you've been hurting since your injury, but I've always been by your side! I'm begging you, don't leave me!]My phone vibrated endlessly, as message after message poured in.At the station, I stopped in my tracks, pulling out the phone Luci had once given me. I glanced at the screen. Even now, he refused to admit to his infidelity, still clinging to the idea that I was simply throwing a tantrum, unable to cope with my physical condition. But had he forgotten? I am the most skilled healer among the forest witches.Luci: [You

Chapter 7

"Mable, I will find you! Don't think for a second you can escape me in this lifetime!" Luci roared into the empty sky, his voice wild, his body trembling. His face twisted in despair, and rage poured out of him like a flood he could no longer control. When I returned to the Misty Forest, the landscape was exactly as I had left it, as if time had chosen not to move forward in this place. The High Priestess saw me and broke into tears, her aged face streaked with joy. The other witches, too, embraced me tightly, their eyes glistening."Mable, you've finally come back!"I looked at the High Priestess, who seemed to have aged decades in my absence. My throat tightened, words unable to form. She gazed at me with the warmth of a thousand suns, repeating gently, "It's good that you're back. That's all that matters."I had left the forest in defiance, ignoring her warnings. My decision to follow Luci had caused her so much grief that she had fainted on the spot. The guilt of that momen

"They wouldn't let me in unless I prayed and knelt for nine hundred and ninety-nine days. Do you know what kind of price I paid for this?"Tears streaked down Luci's face, but he wiped them away quickly, replacing them with a radiant smile. "But none of that matters now. What matters is that I've finally found you. Come, Mable, come home with me!"He extended his hand toward me, just as he had done years ago when he'd invited me to leave the forest and step into the human world. Back then, I hadn't hesitated. I'd taken his hand without a second thought, ready to abandon everything. And in return, I was left utterly shattered. Now, I stood before him, gazing into his eyes with a cold detachment, unmoved by his fervent plea.Luci had come here, confident that seeing me would be enough to take me back. But as I remained still, my expression distant and frosty, his composure began to falter."Have you thought of me even once in these three years? Why… why are you so cold toward me?"

Thankfully, the witches nearby acted swiftly, restraining Jasmine before she could reach me. Still, she thrashed and screamed, her face a twisted mask of fury."Mable, if you have any guts, fight me! What's the matter? Afraid, are you? You coward!" she spat, her voice sharp and grating.I didn't bother responding to her provocations, letting her words dissipate into the air like smoke. Instead, I turned my gaze toward Luci, who stood frozen in place, his expression a mix of shock and helplessness."You claim to love me, to think of me every day, yet you've kept this woman by your side all this time," I said, my voice calm but laced with disdain. "Luci, it's not that you can't live without me—it's that you can't live without a woman.""No, that's not true!" he cried, desperation flickering in his eyes. "I sent her away long ago. I don't even know why she's here now! You have to believe me!""Enough! I don't want to hear another word from you!" My voice rose, cutting through his fra

Jasmine collapsed to the ground. Everything happened so quickly that no one had time to react. The witches, however, snapped into action and rushed to restrain Luci. I couldn't tear my gaze away from him.Luci was covered in blood, his once simple clothes now dotted with crimson stains. His pale face, streaked with fresh blood, made him appear even more terrifying. Yet, despite the horror before him, he threw his head back and laughed wildly."Mable," he said, his voice hoarse, "I was bewitched by her. Now that I've killed her, can you finally come back to me? From now on, I won't keep anyone around that you don't like!"His voice grew erratic, his words tumbling out as if in a delirious frenzy. Yet his eyes never left me, staring at me with an intensity that made my skin crawl."Let him go," I sighed, tired. "He has no strength left."With a careless toss, Luci was thrown to the ground, his body slumped against the stone steps. He crawled towards me, determined, his bloodied han
