Before the sun had even risen on the horizon, Ciro had risen from the bed he shared with his fiancée and left the house without her noticing. He headed south of Florence where he was guarded for three hours, without being allowed to make any stops. His destination was one of his companies, the one with the lowest production that functioned more like a loading and unloading warehouse. His brother was waiting there, and he had been waiting for hours. They greeted each other and entered a small, ragged and unused parking lot. There was a truck stopped and about ten guards protecting it. After the Tonali brothers arrived, they opened the rear doors of the vehicle, revealing more than fifty well-sealed cardboard boxes. In one swift movement, Ciro climbed onto the platform and walked the long distance to the boxes. He bent down and tore off the packing tape that sealed it, and before his eyes fell a large quantity of bundles of banknotes. The rest of the boxes would h

The next day, with the sun already warming the streets, Bethany left her house with her father, who offered to take her to the Washington DC academy. It was not far from her house, so they walked quietly, through a seemingly pleasant neighborhood."Didn't Mom have an appointment at the hospital today?" he asked. Caitlin had stayed home, tidying up after getting up very late.-He asked for some days off so he could spend as much time with you as possible. - Red clarified. They walked without hurrying, not wanting to be chased. Her dad, very attentive, pointed out places he used to frequent, like a computer rental shop where he spent long hours. Or a candy store where he shopped every day after school. Bethany didn't remember it, but she could imagine it.She didn't talk much about people. She mentioned that, during her teenage years, she wasn't very sociable. Her closest friends could be counted on the fingers of one hand, and none of them were in the city

For hours, Bethany cried, curled up in the arms of her future husband, who regretted not having firmly opposed her idea of wanting to go to the United States. A trip that turned out to be counterproductive, since she had arrived broken in melancholy, unable to remember her home. Not even Miss Halston came back to life in her memories. When night fell, the woman shared the bed with her fiancé again. Wrapped in the same sheets as him. Ciro had hugged her and comforted her as much as she needed, refraining from reproaches. He was the most, if not the only real thing she had in her life, and he would be perfect if he were not a man of mysteries who hid hundreds of secrets from her. With her eyes red and swollen from so much crying, she looked at the ring on her finger, without finding any other meaning than that of an accessory. It was not a symbol of love or anything like that. Maybe her mother was right and the decision to get married was hasty.Ciro's cell phone

Ciro was heading to the centre of Florence to a luxurious Russian restaurant belonging to Esra Voslov, the leader of a Russian cartel with whom he had an important meeting scheduled. He was going against his wishes, as he would rather stay home with his fiancée. He could already tell she was in a better mood, however, he was not naive, he knew that what had stirred her was her desire to have a child. He had to admit that it was an instinct that ran through her veins. Her motherhood had not been an oversight, it had always been planned. He sighed regretfully. As soon as her attempts to get pregnant proved useless, she would return to her depressive state.Bethany was a piece that didn't fit into his puzzle, into his life. But how could he let her go when she was his other half? He would be incomplete, undone. Besides, his brother was a hunter waiting to see his gazelle run free in the meadow to bite his neck. Although Bethany didn't know it, her life depended on Ciro an

The Tonali mansion was covered in elegance and formality in every corner. Even the service staff was dressed in a flirtatious black uniform with green details that they did not usually wear on a daily basis. Everything had to look good for the big evening.Bethany was in the bathroom, finishing up her hair. She was wearing a fiery red dress that fell to her ankles and high-heeled black and red slippers. From a case she pulled out a pearl necklace and was intrigued when she didn't see any matching earrings. After putting on the accessory, she left the room and went into the master bedroom.-Darling, have you seen my pearl earrings? - Bethany asked, kneeling down to look in the drawers of the side table without finding them there either. She turned her head to see her fiancé, who was sitting on the bottom edge of the bed, looking distracted. And so he was. This evening could turn out badly in a thousand ways, especially for her beloved. The body of his wife
