(RORY’S POV) Todd’s face brightened the moment he saw me making my way to the car. I could see his teeth, full out, and when I got closer, I saw his eyes sparkling. But all that froze when Todd got out of the car to help me in. He hurried to get back in and then turned to me, his eyes turning fierce. “Did that idiot do something to you?” he demanded through clenched teeth. “Because I swear I will fucking kill him if I find out that he laid as much as a finger on you! Did he hurt you?” “No, no,” I said quickly because, with how angry Todd sounded, I believed he could start flying out of the car any moment now. “Jason did not hurt me.” I saw that Todd didn’t look convinced and so I quickly added, “I promise, he did not hurt me.” Todd’s shoulders relaxed but his face didn’t. “So why do you look different from how you did when you went in? You don’t look happy,” he said, and before he even gave me a chance to say anything, he added, “Please don’t lie to me, Rory. What happened in ther

(RORY’S POV) I sensed that something was off with Todd when he came to pick me up for the game. He looked like he was deep in thought, but when I asked him if he was okay, he told me with a light smile that he was fine. I knew something was bothering him, and I suspected that it had to do with the fact that this was the first game without him, so I tried to make him feel better by holding his hand as much as I could. I asked him if he wanted us to sit in the back, but he looked down at me with a smile and said; “How then do I show my support to the boys?” We sat down in the second row, where he had a good view of what was going on on the court. I was supportive throughout the game, holding his hand in mine, drawing circles gently on his skin with my thumb. I could only imagine how he would be feeling to be watching, but he became excited when his teammates got onto the court. I could just tell that he was hopeful for them. “Go boys! Go boys!” He yelled from time to time,

(RORY’S POV) The air changed. It wasn’t just the cool beach breeze anymore. It was thick and hot, charged with a feeling I’d only ever read about. My hand was still on him, feeling the hard proof of his want through his jeans. A low growl came from deep in Todd’s chest. In one smooth, strong motion, his hands went under my arms and around my back. He lifted me up like I weighed nothing, setting me down gently in the center of the soft blanket. He followed me down, his body covering mine, and his mouth found my neck. “Tell me to stop, Candy,” he whispered against my skin, his breath sending shivers through me. “Any second. Any reason. You say the word, and this ends. Just say it.” I shivered under his hold but I knew what I wanted . I turned my head, finding his lips with mine. My kiss was my answer. It was a ‘yes’ and a ‘please’ all at once. “I want this,” I breathed between kisses. “I want you.” That was all he needed. The kiss exploded again, deeper and hotter than before

(RORY’S POV) “What exactly happened to you yesterday?” Rosalie asked, her suspicious eyes fixed on me as I ate my cereal. I looked up from my bowl to see everyone looking at me. It wasn’t just that I still had that same smile plastered on my lips—it was even wider now, appearing whenever I wasn’t using my mouth for anything else. I also caught myself swinging my legs occasionally and, of course, there was the occasional bobbing of my head to no music in particular. I was propped up on a tall stool against the counter. Rosalie was seated on the counter, Aunt Ryan was leaning against it reading a newspaper while sipping her coffee, and Nana was making tacos for us. “What do you mean?” I murmured to Rosalie, keeping my face down and focused on my cereal because I didn’t want her to see how red my face was. “I mean, why have you been acting like a happy doll since this morning? Plus, we’d all gone to bed by the time you got in.” She pointed out, and I really wished I could just s

(RORY’S POV) I have never felt so much like a deflated balloon that had been put in that position by a needle. All my excitement was gone and now replaced with an overwhelming feeling of sadness and anxiety. It was so hard to think that I had been swooning and dancing since last night only to be brought down to the harsh, cold ground. My happy, beautiful memory of my intimate time with Todd last night suddenly felt so hazy in my head, even though I had been having a hard time thinking of anything other than it since it happened. Now all that was in my head was mainly the words and voice of Martha O’Connor and Nana. The events of the morning crashed over me and made me feel so weak that I could not really think straight. I was bombarded with a replay of the events of this morning, which had only happened a few hours ago. I had run up to my room and sobbed into my pillows. One thing I was grateful for was the fact that Todd and I had exchanged texts during the early hours of the mo
