(LESLIE’S POV) “You’re back early,” Joy announced the obvious as I sat down in the car. I rolled my eyes and dropped my purse with a force. “Leslie, what’s wrong?” Sheila asked, leaning closer to me. “Nothing is wrong with me!” I snapped in annoyance. This was not what I needed right now. “Don’t ask me stupid questions,” I said, glaring at them. Then I tapped on the partition. “Drop them off. I want to be alone,” I called to the driver. I heard Joy gasp. “What about the party?” she asked. I turned on her, my eyes flashing. She recoiled. The car was silent from then on. After Sheila and Joy had been dropped off, I got out my penknife and started to stab it consistently into the leather seat, letting out blood-curdling screams. I have never felt this angry before. Or this humiliated. Todd had gone off to be with that nerd! That oversized, ugly thing!! How could he do this to me? Why was he with her? Her! I would make sure that Rory gets what she’s looking for. She d

(RORY’S POV) The pain I felt on the second day was even worse than the first. I planned on staying locked in my room, just like the day before, but my sister Rosalie was not having it. She started knocking softly at my door by ten in the morning. I wanted to ignore her, like I had done last night, but then she said, “I’m going to break the door down if you don’t answer, Rory. Your food tray is still out here, and last night you didn’t even say a word to me.” I could hear the concern and hurt in her voice, and it made me sit up with a sigh. “Hi, Rosalie,” I greeted softly. There was a moment of silence, and then she said, “I’ve been worried sick about you. Can you please open the door?” she begged. I felt guilty then, realizing how worried and helpless Rosalie must feel. I got off the bed, and even though my body felt like a sack of heavy bones, I dragged myself to the door and opened it. The moment I did, Rosalie let out a very heavy sigh of relief and stepped in, pulling me into

(TODD’S POV) “Do you want to kill yourself?” Maddie’s voice startled me a little because it was the first thing I heard the moment I shifted my headphones, taking a break. I was in the gym room of our house. I honestly don’t know how many hours I had spent here, but I’d been here since the sun woke me up. “Good morning, Maddie,” I said, my voice coarse as I breathed heavily. “It’s afternoon,” Maddie corrected with an unimpressed look on her face. I reached for a bottle of water and after a good gulp, I breathed heavily. “I had no idea time went by so fast,” I said, resting my back against the wall. “Of course, time goes by fast when you are on a mission….” Her eyes swept over the large dumbbells I had just finished lifting. “Especially one that looks like a suicide mission.” I laughed. “Don’t be dramatic, Maddie. I won’t kill myself,” I said. My body was screaming in pain, but I didn’t care. This pain was better than the alternative. “You will,” Maddie said, her eyes sweeping o

(LESLIE’S POV) My body has never trembled this hard in my life… I guess it’s because I’ve never had a reason to. I always get what I want. Always. It’s never hard for me. All I have to do is want it, and then I have it. But today, I am faced with the greatest and most unfamiliar dilemma of all: Being unwanted. Todd said such horrible words to my face! Words I never imagined I would hear. His eyes were so serious that, deep down, I was scared of coming here again after he’d given me such a stern warning. I have a strong feeling that this all has to do with her. It’s the fucking damn Nerd!!! But how can it be?How??? As I went down the stairs, my mind racked itself for what to do. “No!” I said to myself. “I cannot take this. I can’t take this!” How can I be with someone else other than Todd? We belonged together. We belong together! “Leslie?” It was the soft, concerned voice of Martha O’Connor as I arrived at the foot of the stairs and started making my way to the door. I turned

(RORY’S POV) “That was a nice movie,” Amanda said with a bright smile, sitting up and moving closer to the laptop. I snapped out of my thoughts, and my eyes fell guiltily on her. I was so ashamed of myself! For the first time in forever, I had a true girlfriend who was spending time with me to cheer me up, and all I could do was zone out of the movie we were supposed to be watching together. “Yes. It was a nice movie,” I said with a tight smile. Amanda turned back to me with a surprising giggle. “You did not watch the movie, Rory. You don’t even know the name of the antagonist, I’m sure,” she accused, her eyes twinkling with teasing. I bit my lip. She wasn't wrong. If she’d asked me to name the protagonist, I would have guessed Rita—I was fairly sure that was the female lead’s name. “Okay, I’m sorry. I am really sorry,” I said, looking down in guilt. But Amanda leaned forward and put an arm around me. I looked up to see she was beaming at me. “It’s okay, Rory,” she said very sof
