《When Best Friends Kiss》全部章節：第 61 章 - 第 70 章

(RORY’S POV) Yesterday , telling Rosalie and Amanda about my troubled emotions seemed like the best thing, especially when it helped keep my thoughts from going crazy. But today, these crazy thoughts were so all over the place that I was considering calling in sick and lying about cramps. “Don’t be silly,” Rosalie laughed at me when I mentioned it slightly. “The same person you’re running from is going to be the one to catch you red-handed. Todd knows your week of the month, so he can be so mushy and send you flowers and care packages!” Then she ended it with sniggers as she walked off to her own room with her morning health shake juice, leaving me frowning to myself for some minutes before I made my way back to my room to prepare. I was shy. Too shy to be hanging around Todd. I had managed to keep my feelings under lock for what seemed like my whole life. But now, it felt impossible for me to act cool and pretend. Maybe because of how closely Todd watched me, the glances h

(AMANDA’S POV) Leslie’s eyes dug into mine and I felt unable to meet her squarely. Her gaze was the way it usually was—mean and threatening. “I’m sorry,” I mumbled, but I had to make sure my voice was audible enough for Leslie to hear. She did, replying with a nonchalant hiss as she set her almost empty glass down. It was just the two of us in the backseat of her car, with her driver in front, but it felt like there were about a thousand people in there. It felt uncomfortable and choked up. “You look useless, Amanda. Like you don’t have anything to tell me,” she said drily as she reached over for a bowl of assorted chocolates and took one. I swallowed a lump in my throat. Leslie only eats sweets and chocolates when she’s stressed, and when she is stressed, she is in her most evil form. “I do have something for you!” I blurted out. Leslie turned to me. “Don’t waste my time,” she commanded. “Rory is going to the dance with Todd.” The words spilled out, and Leslie’s eyes widened.

I am officially losing it. It was just a charged hug, but somehow it has been replaying in my head a thousand times, along with the almost kiss in his room last week, that left us both breathless and staring. Since morning, I have been unable to stop thinking of Todd. I can’t get it out of my head—the way his fingers traced my back, the way I felt his hand pressed to my skin. Maybe it’s this top I am wearing, over regular skinny jeans. It’s a pretty chiffon top that Rosalie picked out for me yesterday. It’s not like my other T-shirts and sweatshirts. It’s light, and as such, when Todd held me… Since then, he has been imprinted in my mind. I can’t seem to stop thinking about him, about how I wanted to cup his beautiful face in my hand when he grinned, about how I wanted to hug him for a longer time… Even while I was in the studio, answering questions about myself and talking about my love for science and my future ambitions, I smiled a few times because it felt like Todd was presen

(RORY’S POV) On a simple date I had told Rosalie and she had dressed me in a pretty blue silk dress that hugged my body perfectly. “A simple dress,” she had said, “but anything you wear just looks fabulous, Bun.” I was beaming shyly when I got to the front door of Todd’s house, my heart beating loudly in my chest as if it was the first time we were meeting. Maybe it was because I was still wearing a little makeup from the interview, or that Rosalie had pinned my hair up so prettily with hair clips and pretty accessories. I had practiced meeting Todd’s eyes with mine a hundred times, but nothing prepared me for what happened when I stepped into the house and saw that everyone looked like they were at war. Then, as for the expressions—Todd’s face blurred out every other person’s face in that moment, and his was the only one I could see. His eyes were clear as they took in my presence. He was staring at me so adoringly, so lovingly, that there was no denying what I was feeling. “Ro

(THIRD PERSON’S POV) “For fuck’s sake!” Martha O’Connor cursed for the sixth time since Leslie’s departure as she paced about anxiously, holding a glass of wine in her hands. “Your language, please, honey,” James O’Connor said, snacking on the bowl of grapes that sat on his lap. “How can Todd defy me so much… Me! I have given everything for that child, and he chooses to belittle me because of that girl with no sense of style or standing” she spat angrily. James raised an eyebrow at her. “Rory is a wonderful young lady. Exceptional, I must say,” he added, a stern tone to his voice. Martha rolled her eyes and downed the contents of the wine before placing the glass on the table. “Come on,” she groaned. “Yes, Rory is super smart, but be honest, honey, is she fit to stand beside our son when he gets drafted?” She didn’t wait for him to answer. “Leslie knows how to put on a good act, the kind that will give them the perfect picture of the perfect small-town power couple. Leslie is cl
