Chapter 1

Jay Dawson and I were married for six years. Back then, the news about his family forcing him to get married was all over the place. He would rather marry a random woman in a hospital than follow his family's plan. That random woman was me."There were so many people in that hospital. Why did you choose me?" I asked him once."It's because you cried the hardest. You looked easy to control," he replied.Jay was right. He controlled me for six full years.I had no parents, so my grandmother raised me. I thought I could give her a better life once I graduated and started working. However, before that, she fell into the final stage of cancer, and it was Jay who paid for her expensive treatment. After that, we became husband and wife in name only.…The next morning, Jay walked out of the bedroom shirtless, his hair messy and eyes still heavy with sleep. He headed straight for the bathroom.A moment later, the young model from last night followed him out. She wore my black silk n

"Stop being unreasonable.""This is the last year, Jay."Jay froze for a second. He clearly did not understand what I meant. I turned and walked into the bedroom. The bed was a mess, and their clothes were scattered across the floor.I should have moved out of that room a long time ago, but Jay would not allow it.He wanted me to clean up the mess he made with other women, as if it was his way of punishing me.I wondered what I did to deserve such humiliation. What I did was merely love someone I should not have. I clung to a marriage that was never meant to last. The pain had lasted so long that it turned into numbness. All I wanted was the agreement to end in a week. After that, I would finally be free.I opened the closet to start packing my things. I pulled out the wedding dress that had been hanging in the corner for years. It was not really a wedding dress. Just a simple white fitted gown.We got married in a rush. After getting the marriage certificate, Jay brought m

Chapter 3

"What are you doing? Are you trying to kill us both?"We almost crashed into another car because she grabbed the steering wheel.Ivy did not care. She tried to grab it again, but I was not fast enough to stop her.The car swerved wildly on the road. Suddenly, a large truck appeared from the opposite direction. The truck had just turned the corner when our car slammed into it with a loud bang. The impact knocked me out. In the haze, I heard Jay's worried voice."Are you okay, Ivy?" he asked anxiously.Ivy cried, "It was all Rachel's fault! She wasn't driving properly."I was sent to the hospital right away. When they wheeled me into surgery, I was the only one there.I signed the surgical consent form myself.Luckily, my injuries were not too serious, so I could still take care of myself. If I had been in worse shape, the hospital would have had to call my family.I laughed bitterly in my mind. Jay would never come to take care of me.The nurses whispered among themselves, s

Chapter 4

"There's no clean laundry, and the fridge is empty," Jay said.I rubbed my forehead and replied, "Can't you ask the housekeeper to take care of that?""I want you to do it. We're getting a divorce if you don't come home tonight," Jay ordered.Jay hung up the call before I could respond.Across the room, Leeya had just settled my hospital bill. She walked over and wrapped an arm around my shoulder."Have you told Jay about the divorce yet?""Not yet, but I will soon."Leeya grinned and pulled me forward. "Well then, you're mine soon. You're not going anywhere!"I let out a helpless smile and followed her. That evening, Leeya happily brought me to a bar. We sat in a private booth under the flashing lights, drinking and laughing like we were back in college. My phone buzzed over and over again—all calls from Jay.I stopped drinking after we got married because Jay hated the smell of alcohol on a woman. I drank all I could that night. It was nearly midnight when I finally ret

Chapter 5

While I waited to board the plane at the airport, Jay called.I declined the call immediately, removed the SIM card from my phone and threw it away. From now on, I would live my own life. The plane landed in the icy winds of Usmana. I wrapped my coat tighter and looked toward the arrivals area where Leeya stood waving."You're finally here!" she exclaimed. She ran over and gave me a big hug, nearly squeezing the breath out of me."Congratulations on finally being free!"She laughed, but her face changed a second later."Alright, enough celebrating. The studio's a mess and needs your magic. Chop-chop. Oh, and this is the assistant I found for you. Meet Ben Faymen."She pointed to the quiet, black-rimmed glasses guy behind her. He looked bookish and polite. We nodded at each other, and before I could ask anything else, Leeya was already dragging me toward the studio.I practically lived there for the next week. I was packed with back-to-back work.Leeya claimed she was helpin

Chapter 6

As soon as Jay stepped into the study, his eyes landed on two documents lying on the desk. One looked old, the pages yellowed with time. Bold letters on the cover read 'Confidential Agreement'.Jay froze. He had no memory of ever signing any kind of agreement with me.He picked it up and flipped through the pages. His expression darkened with every line he read. Then, it hit him. He signed it six years ago.He threw the agreement aside like it burned his hands, and his eyes locked onto the second document, the divorce papers. There it was, clear as day—my signature. The date was exactly one week ago.Jay let out a cold laugh and tore the documents to pieces."No one gets to walk away from me like this. It's not over yet!"Jay finally recalled my attitude for the past few months. I was cold and distant toward him.He thought I was jealous. He never imagined that I had planned all of it.Jay refused to believe that everything I did for him over the past six years had all come

Chapter 7

My patience ran out. "Mr. Dawson, I'm hanging up if there's nothing else." Jay's voice dropped, unusually soft. "Are you sure you're not coming back?"I let out a dry chuckle and replied, "Our agreement lasted for only six years. Since the agreement is over, I'm done. There's no reason for me to go back."There was silence on the other end. Then, out of nowhere, Jay asked, "You're doing this for money, aren't you? Is a million dollars enough?"I sighed and replied, "Jay, we don't live in the same world. Our agreement is over, and so is our relationship." "I can give you three million," he replied desperately. I responded softly, "I don't want it, Jay. I've lost six years of my life. I'm done living for you." That was the last straw. Jay snapped, "Rachel, stop acting! I'll ask you one last—" "I'm not going back," I cut him off without hesitation. I hung up right after.Jay stared at his phone, stunned."Rachel! Do you really think I can't live without you?!"

Chapter 8

None of it mattered to me.The reality show with Jay and Ivy was a three-day livestream. On the first day, Jay played along, putting on a show with Ivy, acting all sweet and affectionate.By the second day, Jay grew distracted. He constantly checked his phone like he was waiting on an important call.Ivy called his name several times before he finally responded, giving vague, half-hearted replies. That afternoon, my phone lit up with his number. I frowned and rejected the call without hesitation. It rang again, and I blocked the number.Leeya leaned over with a teasing smile. "Someone's desperate! What if he's begging you to go back?"I shot her a look. "Keep it up, and I'm quitting tomorrow."The livestream continued. Suddenly, Jay quit the show.Ivy's eyes welled with tears as she ran after him, grabbing his arm. "Why are you leaving, Jay? Why won't you finish the show with me?"Jay shook off Ivy's hand impatiently. "I'm done. We're not married anyway."Ivy chased afte

Chapter 9

The butler stood by the gate and calmly said, "Ms. Grey, you're no longer welcome here. Here's your belongings."Ivy trembled as she exclaimed shakily, "I want to see Jay. Let me in!"Ivy tried to push past the butler, but he blocked her path."Please don't make this difficult for us."Ivy stood frozen at the door, her face pale. She could not understand why Jay had changed suddenly.I thought it was finally over. The next day, Jay showed up outside my studio.I saw him from a distance. I ignored him and kept walking. He grabbed my wrist and said my name with an unfamiliar low voice."Rachel…"It was the first time I had heard him speak to me like that. He used to talk down to me, barking orders like I was disposable. His sudden softness felt fake and repulsive.I stared at him coldly and asked, "What do you want?"I saw a hint of hurt in his eyes due to my harshness."Don't be mad at me. I came to take you home," he said.I let out a chuckle. "I have nothing to do wit

Chapter 10

Jay did not stop.He started spreading lies online, saying I had abandoned him and cheated on him during our marriage. The public opinion flipped in just a few hours. The hate comments came in like a tidal wave.My reputation crashed overnight.Still, I felt nothing.I knew who I was and what I did.Ben saw the mess on the internet too. He stormed into my office furiously."Rachel, this is insane. Let me help you clear your name—"I patted his shoulder, smiled calmly, and said, "Let him be. He won't last long."I had already prepared for it.I saved every video of Jay with his parade of models and sent them anonymously to multiple media outlets. As expected, the scandal exploded.Jay's dirty secrets were everywhere. He became the top public enemy overnight, yet the best part was still coming. The mighty Dawson Corporation got hit with a massive tax evasion scandal. It was a shocking amount.Their stocks plummeted, almost hitting limit down.Jay scrambled to salvage the
