LUCAS POV.Isabella wasn’t his daughter. I turned sharply, heading to the east wing, where my personal bar awaited. The dim light spilling from the shelves was comforting, even if nothing else in my life was. I didn’t bother with a glass this time. Grabbing a bottle of whiskey, I took a long pull, the burn slicing through my throat. But it wasn’t enough to drown the anger. The anger at him. At myself. At her. I leaned against the counter, the bottle dangling from my hand as I closed my eyes, letting the silence wrap around me. My chest was tight, a coil of emotions I couldn’t untangle. She wasn’t his daughter. I spent years stalking, making research learning of moretti's weakness all for this? I had to admit the man was smart. He avoided every single trail and got rid of traces. He murdered her mother just because she was pregnant for someone else? And them he subjected her into labor making her do his dirty jobs all for what? The thought wouldn’t leave me. She wasn’t

ISABELLA'S POV.How gullible could I be?.Luca's hatred for me was justified. My father killed his brother. A bloody child! And of course a lot happened in the mafia, and that included lots of killing, but could I blame him?.I'd be damned before I let anyone touch or harm Matteo in any way, even if it meant growing into a vile and bitter yet cold person like Luca had done, and for my father…he was knee bent on protecting some goddamned secret that would be just as filthy as he was.Not a single fibre of guilt or regret hearing Luca had killed him; it was something I'd been dying to do anyways, and Luca had done the biggest favour by pulling a trigger I'd latched on to for years.Grappling with the little sensual stability I had left, I fumbled around the closet, tucking rolls of tissues into an envelope. Hastily I stormed out of the room, heading down to the garden and towards the flowerpot I had placed the ledger in. Knot tied in my belly, seeing how weak I was, my father had ruined

LUCAS POV.Fuck me for being damn gullible. Fuck me for showing the bitch mercy. Double fuck me for showing her my vulnerabilities, for thinking we could be more. My father was fucking right—give a woman a bit of freedom, and they'd piss all over you. She took everything I fucking did and said to her for granted, like it was nothing. A throbbing headache set into my temples as I made my way toward my main room. I stripped off my clothes, stepping into the shower, my head an abusive mess. I winced as soon as the cold water hit my skin, but gradually, the temperature warmed up. I caught sight of my reflection in the mirror as I washed, the cut from the vase throbbing more than it should. But it wasn’t the wound that hurt—it was her words. A heartless monster. The bitch. I was like this because I had no one to love me? The fuck did I need love for when I had all the power and wealth any man would kill for? I dried off and changed into new clothes, rolling my eyes. I p

LUCA'S POV.“I'm sorry, Mr. Ricci, but this is the best we could do. She might not survive; in other words, I advise you to spend as much time as you could with her… Unconscious or not, it's best if someone stays by her side when she takes her last breath.” Doctor Ilya announced, tapping me slightly against my shoulders. My heart hasn't stopped racing. I had no idea how we had gotten here; it all happened fast... I could barely think; I lifted her and watched her smile while her blood gushed out of her neck. She didn't stop; it had been a pain to me, but the entire thing was a blur. How she had gotten to the ICU, how she had gotten operated on, I just stood lost in thought until the doctor called for me. And now, they said she'd die…I… I murdered her.She had toxins in her, probably from the last poison play we had, and then she had apparently been downing bleach, once or twice…puked it out for just a bit to reside in her, and then she bled out last night. While I was in my roo

LUCA'S POV“That bitch knows nothing. She should be grateful I'm nice enough to let her stay after that bullshit stunt she pulled,” I retorted, yelling as loud as I could, trying to hide my insecurities and hostility, which apparently doesn't seem to fool Maccini by any means.“Really?” he asked, not in the slightest bit bothered by my threats.“What’s your big plan then? Strangle her rough after she recovers from the coma?” Maccini asked, cocking his eyebrows at me in an unsettling manner. “Last I checked, Luca, you were the one bawling your eyes out on your knees, asking God to bring her back, so what the hell is wrong with you this time?” Maccini asked.A low grunt escaped my lips. Shrugging, I threw both my hands into the air and took another sip of whiskey tonight. How was this my life?Suddenly, Maccini and I became best buddies—not that I was complaining. Matter of fact, he was as much of a snub as I was. I didn’t really think much of it when Isabella had fallen into a coma, a
