Annalyn’s POVThe first sound I heard when I woke wasn’t birdsong or Nolan’s little footsteps. It was the endless crash of waves. For a second, in that blurry space between sleep and waking, I thought I was back home with the window open. But the sharp salt in the air and the stiff sheets under me snapped reality into place. This wasn’t home. This wasn’t safety.I opened my eyes to the plain room I would be spending two whole weeks in, to the heavy curtains, to the faint smell of sea air that clung to everything. My body was stiff, my head pounding with the remnants of whatever drug Matt had pressed into me. My chest tightened. Alex… Nolan… Mama… I miss them so much.. just two days and I’m dying to see them again.I sat up slowly, clutching the blanket against me as if it were armor. Yesterday I’d made a deal with the devil himself. Two weeks. Fourteen days to endure his obsession. I had agreed, not because I wanted to, but because the alternative was worse. I wasn’t strong enough to

Annalyn’s POVI stood by the window, chewing my fingernail until it ached. It was a habit I thought I had left behind years ago, but now it came back like an old shadow that wouldn’t leave. I couldn’t stop myself. It felt like the only thing keeping me grounded. My eyes stayed fixed on the waves crashing outside. The water rolled in and out, steady and endless, like it didn’t care about me or my problems. But in my head, I wasn’t trapped on this God forsaken island. I was back on the shore with Alex and Nolan. My very first vacation with them.I could hear Nolan’s squeals of laughter, so real it almost pulled me under. I pictured him running on the sand, his little feet sinking, his arms flailing as he giggled. Alex was behind him, pretending to be the monster, chasing him, growling like a bear, letting Nolan think he was fast enough to escape. I could almost see the spray of water as Nolan splashed us both, his grin wide, his joy endless. And Alex… my Alex..his arms catching me from

Alex’s POV“Matt… don’t you fucking joke with me!” I bellowed, my voice so loud it rattled the glass of water on my desk. But the cold, flat beep in my ear told me the line had already gone dead.I stared at the phone in my hand, chest heaving. Then the fury surged. I slammed it down onto the desk so hard the frame of Anna and Nolan rattled beside it.“That son of a bitch…” I roared, dragging both hands through my hair.I began to pace the room, my fists clenching and unclenching. The clock on the wall ticked past ten. The seconds mocked me. Worst of it all was I couldn’t track the call… Matt had been smart enough to use a private number. But then, he had promised to send me Anna’s location.Could I even trust him?The question seared through me. Was this another one of his stupid games? Was he toying with me, dangling Anna in front of me like bait?I paced harder, each step echoing in the silence of my office. Nearly an hour bled away while my mind tore itself apart with possibiliti

Alex’s POV“Of all the fucking times…” I muttered, hoarse, still breathing like I’d just run through fire. The phone kept shrilling, loud and urgent. I wanted to smash it into the wall. But when I glanced at the screen, my chest tightened.Nanny Flora. Why was she calling? I glanced at the time and it was almost 6am.I swiped instantly. “Nanny?”Her voice trembled, rushed. “Alex… I think Nolan’s having a panic attack again. He woke up startled. He’s calling for Anna, crying so hard I can barely calm him down.”My heart dropped. My boy. My little boy was breaking while I was here. The last time he’d broken down like this was when he lost his biological mother.“Please give him the phone,” I said, forcing the words past the lump in my throat. “Please.”Muffled rustling. Then Nanny Flora’s soft coaxing: “Baby, breathe… it’s Daddy…”But over her words came sharp sobs, broken breaths, my son gasping like the air wouldn’t reach him. I clenched my jaw, fighting not to crumble.“Baby…” I star

Alex’s POV“Shit!” Anna exclaimed, freezing like she’d just been caught stealing cookies from a jar.I turned, and sure enough, there stood Nanny Flora with that sly, knowing smile she always carried, her old eyes twinkling with mischief. Nolan, on the other hand, looked utterly clueless, his little face scrunched as he tilted his head between us.Anna panicked instantly. “I can explain, Nanny.. it’s not what it seems…”But Flora just laughed, her shoulders shaking lightly. “Food’s ready.” She turned to Nolan and took his small hand in hers. “Baby, let’s give mummy and daddy some privacy, hmm?”Nolan nodded, but his eyes sparkled as he chimed, “Mummy, hurry! The food will get cold!”Flora winked… she fucking winked for God’s sake before closing the door behind them. Old, but still as mischievous as a teenager, that woman.I turned back to Anna, and the sight of her standing there frozen with shock all over her face was too much… I burst into laughter. “Come on, Anna. Nanny Flora knows
