Annalyn’s POV

I almost didn’t recognize the woman staring back at me.

The mirror reflected a stranger… She stood elegant, poised and polished. She is Me. Yet it didn’t feel like it was me.

Three days prior, I could have sworn I wouldn’t ever see the people I loved again. I looked ragged, hair tangled in a bun, face hollow and eyes bagged, trapped in a house where fear was my closest companion.

But tonight, I was standing in front of the tall mirror in my room, draped in a gown I never dreamed I’d wear.

Alex had picked it out himself.. It was midnight-blue silk, smooth as water and clinging to my frame like it had been made for me alone. The neckline dipped softly across my collarbone, modest but breathtaking. The skirt fanned down to my feet in gentle layers, each step whispering against the floor. My hair, normally wild and messy, was swept into soft curls cascading over one shoulder. Diamond studs winked faintly at my ears.

I lifted a hand to my lips. Painted crimson. My heart skip

  • Falling For My Ex’s Brother-In-Law   Chapter 260: Exit Strategy

Kristoff’s POV“Pick the damn phone, you bastard.”I paced the length of the room, phone pressed hard to my ear like I could force it to comply through sheer pressure. The marble floor beneath my feet was cold, slick, mocking me with its calm while my insides burned.Ring.Ring.Ring.I stopped pacing and glared at the screen, jaw clenched so tight my teeth ached. My reflection stared back at me from the dark glass wall…eyes sharp, face drawn, anger simmering just beneath the surface.“Pick up,” I snarled. “Pick up.”As if I’d jinxed it, the call connected.“Hello?” came the cautious voice on the other end.I didn’t bother with pleasantries.“I need a new identity,” I snapped. “Passport. Name. History. Everything. I want out of this city.”A pause. Then a sigh.“Kris,” the man said carefully, “I’m not in that business anymore.”My grip tightened around the phone.“What do you mean you’re not in the business?” I demanded. “You were in it three months ago.”“I got out,” he replied. “Cle

  • Falling For My Ex’s Brother-In-Law   Chapter 259: The Long Wait

Anna’s POVWaiting has its own sound. It hums.Low. Persistent.Like something alive, crawling under your skin.I’d been sitting on the same bench for so long my legs had gone numb, but I didn’t dare shift. I felt like if I moved…if I breathed too loudly…I might break whatever fragile alignment the universe had finally arranged in my favor.Mrs. Quinn was on her way back. That single fact was the only thing keeping me upright. My mother sat beside me, her shoulder pressed firmly into mine, grounding me. She hadn’t let go of my hand in over an hour. Every now and then, she’d squeeze my fingers gently, like she was reminding me that I was still here. Still alive. Still fighting.“You’re shaking,” she murmured.I hadn’t noticed.“I’m fine,” I lied, my voice thin. She turned slightly, studying my face the way mothers do…like they can see through skin and bone straight into the soul. Her brows drew together, worry carving deeper lines into a face that had already aged too fast these past m

  • Falling For My Ex’s Brother-In-Law   Chapter 258: The Wrong Vault

Kristoff POVRestlessness is a disease. It crawls under the skin, gnaws at the bones, refuses to let a man sit still even when everything is supposedly going according to plan. I paced the length of the sitting room for the fifth…no, sixth… time, my footsteps echoing off marble floors that suddenly felt too loud, too exposed.Too alive.“Sit down,” my attorney said from the leather couch, calm to the point of irritation. “You’re wearing a path into the floor.”I shot him a glare. “How do you expect me to relax when Margaret Quinn is suddenly everywhere?” I snapped. “Every move I make, she’s already ten steps ahead, waving law enforcement like a fucking baton.”“She’s reacting,” he said evenly. “Not leading.”I scoffed. “You don’t know her.”I stopped near the window, peering through the heavy drapes, half-expecting headlights to cut through the darkness. Nothing. Still, the tension wouldn’t leave. It pressed against my chest, tight and insistent.Something felt off. Before I could voi

  • Falling For My Ex’s Brother-In-Law   Chapter 257: A Step Ahead

Mrs. Quinn POVThe door closed behind me with a weight I felt in my bones.Hospitals had a way of stripping you bare…no matter how powerful you were outside those walls. I stood for a moment beside my car, inhaling slowly, forcing my spine straight, my face calm. Flora’s voice still echoed in my head, the doctor’s words replaying like a loop I couldn’t shut off.Rissa would wake soon.Alex was stable… but still sleeping.“Let people he loves speak to him,” the doctor had said gently. “Sometimes the heart needs a reason to fight its way back.”I squeezed my eyes shut for half a second.Hold on, my son. Just a little longer. Then I slid into the car and shut the door, sealing emotion out with a practiced precision I’d perfected over decades. This was no time to break.I pulled my phone from my bag and dialed a number I hadn’t saved…but knew by heart. He picked on the second ring.“Margaret,” Inspector Hale said. “I was expecting your call.”“I need an escort,” I said without preamble, s

  • Falling For My Ex’s Brother-In-Law   Chapter 256: “Change of Plans”

Kristoff’s POV“Gather your men, I have a job for them,” I spoke to my main man, and he left, lowering myself into my seat and pouring myself a glass of brandy.A house map was spread out across the table, a plan needed to be made to push my plan further. Every detail, every angle had to be considered. The timing, the exits, the men… everything. I traced my finger along the walls, imagining the path each of my operatives would take. There was no room for error. The wine warmed my chest as I leaned back, letting the smooth taste calm the fire in my veins. Calm. That was the key. Every move had to feel effortless, controlled. I had orchestrated chaos before, and I would do it again. But this time… this time I would leave no traces.I called the first two men on the list, whispering my instructions in clipped sentences. I didn’t need details; they already knew the drill. My voice carried authority, not just the threat, but the promise of dominance. The house, the vault, the files… everyt
