~70~ChiaraI sat in the confessional. The four walls closed in and engulfed me with darkness, like the one existing in my life. My heart was picking up pace with each passing second. I stared at the little holes of the window. Maybe I shouldn’t be here. This was a wrong idea since I was about to commit more sins. “Whenever you are ready my child.” Said Father on the other side. When I told the family that I had something I needed to do after the Mass, they were all surprised. But Carmelo was much more concerned. He even asked if he should accompany me. But I turned him down. I was used to independently dealing with my troubles. This too was my own mess to carry and deal with. When people went for communion earlier, I had thoughts of how much my hereafter would be. I wasn’t truly one to care about these things but when I watched just how much faith people had in God made me want to feel what they felt even for once. I was extremely pissed off that whenever bad things happened to me, G

~72~CarmeloIt’s not every day that I get free time like today. And I planned to use it to the fullest with the woman who owned my heart. I even dismissed Storm today. She was, of course, reluctant as always, saying how stupid and pathetic Chiara was turning me into. But I wouldn’t waste my time explaining what love felt like or what it made people do to someone who I’d never seen with a man before. No dating records, no hookups, nothing. She was the epitome of celibacy.Since it’s been a while, I decided to take quick laps at the pool before engaging with the love of my life. After a long night of discussing our best airline option, exhaustion was my second skin. I stepped down the stairs, and flung the towel over my shoulder.Oh, and Mr. Walsh shamelessly looked for me right after hearing the news of Marino’s downfall. But do you take a spit back into your mouth? I’m a businessman. I worked with greed but as well as honor. And he happened to degrade mine and my family's honor both

~74~ChiaraA walk back to Carmelo felt like I was walking on fire. It felt so wrong to go back and smile at him like nothing was going on behind his back. And the moment I sat back, I felt the shift in the air. It wasn’t soft anymore, it was replaced with something thick and lethal. Something I’d never felt coming from him. His voice was so dangerously slow. And when I glanced at him, heart racing in my chest, his eyes were so dark. Who the hell was this man? “Who was on the phone, Chiara?” He was so out of his regular love portion. He only calls my name when it's serious. But I was only trying to protect his peace.“I never asked you who you talked to.” I said instead of replying to him. I was indeed shocked, but scared? Nah. “I would’ve told you if you asked and you can go through my phone whenever you feel like to. I have a strong feeling you are hiding something from me. Tesoro, I could tolerate a lot of things except liars.” His words shook my heart. I was in fact a liar. My han

~76~Carmelo“Tell me something about you,” I wiped my lips. “What do you want to know?” she returned the question, swiping and deleting pictures on her phone because she complained about taking quite a lot earlier. “Anything,” I said, getting up and placing the empty plate on the washing sink. But instead of returning to sit with her, I folded my sleeves further up, wore the gloves and began to do the dishes. Marina wasn’t returning for the day and I couldn’t leave dirty dishes to rot until tomorrow morning. It was only nearing evening.I glanced at her because she became quiet all of a sudden. And I lived to hear her voice. Maybe I shouldn’t have asked. I was about to dismiss the topic on the air when she finally got up and walked to the sink. She took the towel and stood beside me, drying the dishes. God. I took a deep silent breath. My heart was expanding in my chaste. I swear it was. This moment was fresh from one of my many dreams of us. My stomach was doing that weird thing ag

~78~Chiara“Yeah, that’s not it. And this one is cheugy, this too, mh-mh. Please get me something that’s giving.” Celia dismissed several dresses before she even tried them on.Okay, I thought I was a shopping animal. That was until I witnessed how Celia Conti was spending her brother’s money like a river today. I’d like to think it was a payback but no, she was experienced. Hence melted my heart as we hopped from one shop to another, abusing the black cards in our possession. She might be younger than me but our tastes weren’t that far from each other. In fact she had her own sense of style in fashion and I adored that. For some youngsters it took some time for them to figure out their style.“I’ll take this, this, and this, oh and please wrap that mini bag for me, the black one,” she sauntered to the heels section. The few people who were let inside the shop gawked at her. “Yes, Ma’am,” the shop attendant had a hard time following her around with all the things occupying her hands
