CASSIANCARRYING THE STILL body of the child had shifted something in Cassian. This was his first encounter with a newborn baby. His life had been filled with blood, war and death, so this was a new experience for him.As soon as Sienna walked out of the house to bring the medics here and he carried the baby awkwardly in his arms, he could feel the despair rising in Liora as she lay on the makeshift bed, exhausted and almost unconscious. Cassian knew that he had to do something. He could feel the life slipping from the baby, so he started trying to resuscitate the baby.He tried all the emergency medical methods he knew, but the baby kept on getting paler by the second, so in a last-ditch effort, he bit on his thumb, extracting blood which he placed in the baby's mouth and forced it down. The blood of an alpha, especially a very powerful one, was often rumored to have magical powers. Cassian did not believe much in magic or even the divinity of the mood goddess, but he just did it any

LIORAI WAS DISCHARGED after a few days. Cassian never came to visit me anymore, but when I slept, I could feel his presence. I was not sure if it was real or if my mind was playing tricks on me because whenever I woke up, I always saw that I was alone. My child was medically approved to be healthy even though he was born prematurely. On the morning I was to be discharged, Sienna burst into my room with a bunch of balloons. "Congratulations, Liora!" She grinned. "The doctors said you can come home now."It hurt me that when she said "home," my mind went to the Blackspire pack, and not Cassian's pack. I plastered a smile on my face as I sat up."I expected a little more enthusiasm," Sienna said as she tied the balloon to my bedstand. "Go and wash up, I'll watch baby Jade."I nodded and stood up. Jade carried Jade carefully from his cot and cradled him, making cooing sounds which he seemed to enjoy because his baby laughs filled the air as I went into the bathroom. I took my bath quick

CASSIAN PROWLED THE length of his room restlessly. The beast within him could not go to the back, and kept threatening to take control. He could not tell if it was because of the child that was a room underneath his, or if it was because of the mother, Liora.Maybe it was because of both the child and the mother. Their proximity was doing something to Cassian, something he could noy explain. Growling, and unable to take it anymore, he walked out of his room. The pack mansion was silent as almost everyone was asleep save for a few guards and servants in the kitchen on night duty. He walked down the hallway and took the stairs downstairs. He found himself stopping in front of Liora's room. He could even hear her heartbeating softly from inside. Her scent flooded his brain. He closed his eyes, putting his hand on the door handle, but trying to resist the urge to push the door open.He wanted to stroke her skin softly as she slept, and carry the child. "Push it," His wolf growled impati

WHEN CASSIAN WOKE up, his heart was still heavy, and his mind was troubled. The sub had risen and was shining through the small gap in his window. As he opened his curtain, he shielded his eyes with his hand and stared out. The pack was awake already and everyone was going about their daily duties. The aroma of breakfast drifted into his nose and he went to wash up, scrubbing away the sleep from his face.He packed his long hair in a loose ponytail and dressed casually before going downstairs. He expected quite a number of people in the room, because most of the pack preferred to come and have breakfast in the pack house together. It promoted unity and strengthened the pack bond, but this morning, the room was empty, save for the last person he wanted seated at close proximity."Good morning... alpha, " Liora greeted, standing uo carefully with her baby cradled safely in her arms.He grunted and reply and sat down at the head of the table. She stared at him, unsure of what say or do.

LIORAAS SOON AS candance came into the room, I immediately knew that there was about to be trouble. My heart thudded in my chest as she took in the scenery before her. The tension did not leave the room when Cassian sat down beside Candace instead it thickened and pressed against my skin like humid air before a storm.I held my son closer to my chest, his tiny fingers curled in the fabric of my dress, his breathing was already evening out as sleep pulled at him. My heart was still racing from the mindlink."Cassian, it is." His voice re echoed in my memory. Pride swelled inside me before I could stop it.My son would carry the Alpha’s name. I didn't know what made me pick cassian as a suitable name, but it was the only name in my mind.My son would be called Cassian. The thought felt dangerous and sacred all at once.Across the dining hall, Candace’s laughter floated lightly over the table. Cassian responded in short, controlled tones which i could not hear or pick out what he was
