Semua Bab Their Chance : Bab 81 - Bab 90

Chris We became an item after that weekend. When I eventually made it back home, she came with me, and I found myself coming alive again. With her, I was able to emerge from the shell I’d hidden myself in for so long, much to the delight of my friends and family. The downer was that, because we were out on the town almost every night, it soon started to take its toll on me during the day, as I was often tired and sometimes even hungover at work. But when I was reprimanded by a Medical Attending, who threatened to report me to the Hospital Authorities the next time I showed up plastered, I had to scale back. But that wasn't the only thing that made me start to pull away from Tonia. As we started to settle into the routine of a regular couple, I discovered two things about my new girlfriend. One being she was a pathological liar.“I’m waiting for YSL to reassign me to a new store,” she’d told me when I asked why she’d never gone to work even once in almost two months of us being a coup

Chris A month to our daughter’s first birthday, Tonia’s best friend and, it turned out, her partner-in-crime, Jojo, got arrested for stealing thousands of pounds from Jojo’s employer, an elderly woman. Basically, her entire life’s savings. In her confessional statement, Jojo implicated Tonia, and she was arrested. But as the money was transferred directly to Jojo’s account, and as Jojo claimed she only ever gave Tonia cash, there was no paper trail leading to Tonia, making the case against her circumstantial, so she was released. But, and as I found out only then, she had been on the Police’s radar for a long time, having been indirectly linked to several well-known cyber criminals in the not-too-distant past, so it was only a matter of time before the Police would have a solid case around her to arrest and prosecute her.For the sake of the child we shared, I paid for an expensive lawyer, hoping to find a way to help her out of the mess she’d created for herself.“It’s not looking g

Chris From her place, we’d picked up a lady Evan hired, a lady with an uncanny resemblance with Tonia’s maid, and left for the school. Upon getting to the crèche, the security guards gave the access card a cursory glance before allowing us in. My heart was beating so fast as we entered the room where the children were busy watching a Disney movie. Our female accomplice presented the card to a woman, who examined it with more scrutiny than her counterparts at the main gate. She glanced from the card to our partner several times, and I was worried she’d realise it wasn't the same person.“You came for Bev early today?” she’d finally asked.I almost deflated with relief when I realised she hadn’t.“Yes, Ma,” our accomplice answered. “Her father came over from London.”The minder smiled at me. “Welcome, mister.” Then turning to another minder, she pointed. “Go and get Beverley. She’s sitting over there. Don’t forget her food flask and water bottle.”My eyes followed the second minder as

AhanaAfter a few days with Camilla, I rent a studio apartment in Hendon, switching my mind to autopilot mode, doing everything I can not to fixate on the change in my routine, the disruption to my daily schedule, or the gaping hole in my heart. I don't bother looking for another job and I focus squarely on studying for my exams, going from my apartment to school, and back again. But as detached as I try to be from the turmoil still raging in my head and heart, I subconsciously find myself praying for Chris’s call. Every time my phone rings, I wish it is him reaching out to me, telling me he misses me, telling me he is miserable without me as I am without him. But the call never comes. By the time the month of May comes along, I have no choice but to accept that I was right after all. I was never that important to him.I manage to sit for my exams, giving it my every waking focus, not just to pass well enough to make a distinction, but to keep from feeling the intense pain that has co

AhanaAs the days become weeks, even though work is going well with my dissertation, I am unable to derive the requisite joy from that. My despondency, rather than diminish, increases in intensity, and is my waking and sleeping companion. It has been two months since our breakup, but I miss Chris so bitterly, it physically hurts. I see his face every time I close my eyes, hear his voice in my subconscious, feel his arms around me when I cuddle my pillow to sleep. It is soon clear that the distance I have put between us has done nothing to make losing him any easier. In June, I turn 32, and I wonder what it would have been like if he was still a part of my life. I smile at the memory of his Valentine’s Day surprises, and I know he would have pulled out all the stops for me today. But rather than be loved and celebrated by the most wonderful, the most special man on earth, I spend the day in my bedroom, receiving only a trickle of phone calls from my sisters and distant relatives. It is
