Semua Bab You Watched Me Break, Now Watch Me Rise: Bab 301 - Bab 310

Evan got into a scuffle with the plainclothes special forces operators once more. His suit collar was rumpled, making him look especially disheveled. His large hand gripped Beverly's wrist tightly, his eyes blazing with determination. It was as if he believed that she still belonged to him and that he had every right to determine whether she stayed or left. But what gave him the right?Beverly struggled fiercely and yanked her hand free from him. She wrenched the EKG printout from his grasp and threw it at him. "There's nothing wrong with my heart. He's not the one who lied to me!"Evan grabbed the printout, frowning as he looked at it. The results all appeared normal. But how could that be possible?"Bev, let's run the test again," he said, grabbing her hand. When James saw that she didn't shake Evan off, his eyes narrowed, gleaming coldly. The operators approached them, intending to apprehend Evan, but James stopped them with a glance.Evan held Beverly's wrist in a firm g

After leaving the hospital, James leaned into the backseat of the car. He was exhausted, but his hand remained clasped around Beverly's.She stared out the window and made no effort to pull her hand away."I've hired a caretaker to look after him 24/7," James said."Thank you," Beverly responded without looking over her shoulder. She knew he was referring to Harold.James caressed the diamond ring on her ring finger, a slow smile spreading across his face. He reminisced about their first meeting, when he'd fallen for Beverly the moment he'd seen her lying beneath the locust tree. When they met again, she'd won first place in an IT programming competition by hacking his computer using a self-written code. She'd swept through his computer once and teased him with wicked amusement, "You've got a pretty boring life, Chief Bronson."She'd only been 16 at the time.James had taken one look at Beverly's confident, dazzling smile and realized belatedly that he'd fallen in love with he

"But I didn't think Evan would take this obsession with Beverly to a whole new, manic level. He missed her so much that he began to hallucinate that she was still by his side. He even refused to take his medication to keep those hallucinations at bay."He'd stay up for days and nights at a time, and when he couldn't hold out any longer, he'd take sleeping pills to help him sleep. You're a mother too. I'm sure you understand where I'm coming from."Heather's words were laced with sorrow and regret as she clutched Wanda's hand."What's your point?" Wanda gritted out, her already bad mood souring further as she listened to Heather's sob story. She thought Evan deserved to end up the way he did, given how much of a cheating prick he was.Heather refrained from being too forthright. "Bev has always had a tricky affliction. Our family's used to taking care of her, and even her mother had mentioned in her will that she wanted Evan to look after Bev for the rest of her life. Compared t

James' hand loosened around Beverly's the moment they got into the car. He leaned into the backseat, his face sullen. He looked as if the smallest thing could set him off as his hand rested atop his stomach.Beverly could finally tell he was angry. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have trusted Heather and doubted you. You wouldn't let me look at my medical report the last time at the hospital, and you even ordered Wendell to destroy it. I couldn't help but grow a little suspicious—""So you still think this is my fault?" James cut her off."No, no! This is my fault." Beverly nervously clutched James' hand. "Please stop being angry with me, okay?""Okay." As if he could say no to her when she pleaded with him in such soft, dulcet tones. But Beverly noted his still-sour expression and how his hand remained on his stomach. "Are you alright?"She'd asked him the million-dollar question at last. In the driver's seat, Wendell heaved a sigh.James raised his hand and brushed his thumb over the

Wendell immediately cross-checked with the management and returned shortly. "Chief Bronson, this is the only house with tulips in the back garden, and the management told me they hadn't sent anyone over to plant them."James wiped the mud off Esther's fae, then glanced at Beverly, who was admiring the tulips. He ground out, "He was here.""He wouldn't have the nerve to trespass into private property, Chief Bronson!" Wendell was shocked.James handed Esther over to Wendell and hurried toward Beverly. "Bev, come here."Beverly immediately returned to his side. He pulled her into the study and closed the door. He'd already had Wendell remove the surveillance camera in the study. All Evan saw from his end was the surveillance feed from the hallway. He'd watched as James pulled Beverly ino the study, and through the gap of the slowly closing door, he'd seen James pinning Beverly to the wall.Suddenly, the feed cut to black."What's going on?" Evan demanded, nearly losing his composur
