Lahat ng Kabanata ng The Heiress Curse; Reborn For A Cause : Kabanata 11 - Kabanata 20

“You don’t have to thank me. It’s a given.” Ross said with a small smile on his face before turning to leave again. He had quite a few things to do to make sure he’d secure future collaborations with G-Apex again. He was stopped by her hand on his sleeve, when had she gotten so close? He traced up her hand to her face with his eyes, raising an eyebrow in polite question. “It’s not simply a given. Thank you for always protecting me. I know…I know I snap a lot of the time” She started, letting go of his sleeve and sitting on her desk. “But I’m really grateful to know you have my back all the time”Ross stared at her brilliant smile, it felt like her eyes were twinkling with sincerity with every word she said. The sunlight streamed through her window blinds, the bars of gold hitting her like an ethereal being. He subtly swallowed. “You’re welcome, Emma”He didn’t turn to go this time, it seemed like she still had more to say. Her smile lost its bright edges and her eyes bounced off him

Emma couldn’t really work. She was trying to recall the woman’s face again but all she could see was brown hair and then the gushing flow of water. It irritated her to no end. The day had been an entire roller coaster, perhaps it was time for her to head to the Dales’ home to rest. Unfortunately she couldn’t just leave yet, Eliana would think she was a lazy brat that couldn’t even withstand the stress of the company, even though she closed the deal for them. The memory had really drained a lot from her though, would Eliana understand if she told her she got a flashback? She groaned, putting her head on her desk, supporting it with one hand while tapping her lap with her index finger of the other hand. Her door flung open again. She had a split flash of thought where she felt like she should barricade her door, but she quickly shut it down. This wasn’t her company. She raised her head, ready to level Lily with a glare, only to find that it wasn’t Lily. It was a tall man with dark brow

Ross blinked and sent a side eye to Meredith upon her gasping, leaning away from Emma. “Thank you too, your cooperation is highly appreciated, and you will be rewarded accordingly," Ross said, the smile on his face still lingering but not as wide as it was with Emma. Meredith wanted to hit her head against a wall, who had asked her to make any sound? The glance he had given her had surely shaved years off her lifespan, even as he thanked them.“It’s…ahem, it’s an honor to work with you sir”, Cooper said on behalf of both of them, as he could see that Meredith was frozen, “And Miss Emma is a fantastic project manager, she deserves all the credit really”.Ross didn’t respond to that, only standing up with a smile on his face that seemed to say ‘I know’. Emma snapped out of her dream-like state and waved Ross away as professionally as she could, seeing that the other two had begun concocting stories in their minds about her and Ross.“I’ll leave you to it”, he said, and promptly left.

Emma felt oddly guilty, which was strange considering the fact that she had done nothing wrong. She and Ross were now standing on the east balcony, the one that overlooked the sea, and he was quiet almost to the point of being broody. A glass of wine that he had poured while the ambulance came to take Matthew away was being casually swirled in his hands while he stared off into the space. Matthew had started to cough again right after Ross had spoken, and Ross had immediately called an ambulance that arrived ridiculously fast, shoving him inside in an uncaring way. “It’s coming out of your salary”, he had said, and based on the way the light left Matthew’s eyes Emma knew it that wasn’t a small amount that Ross would be deducting. “Are you alright now?”, he asked, breaking the barrier of silence. Emma blinked and upon realizing she had been staring at him, she looked off into the horizon too. The sea was vast, but it was beautiful. She was supposed to feel some form of fear or tr

Eliana loved her retreats to Italy. After decades of raising a mule stubborn son like Ross on her own, Tuscany’s slow mornings and careless wines were the closest thing to therapy she could afford for herself without a guilty conscience. She had barely been gone a month when the calls started, Ross was throwing tantrums and punishing his oldest friend, apparently all because of Emma. The irony was that it was Eliana herself that had sent Matthew to the house in the first place, hoping he and Emma would click just enough to make Ross back off. In her mind the choice had always belonged to Emma, if the girl found someone else, Ross would be forced to let go, and find another girl to marry. It wasn’t that Eliana disliked Emma, in fact it was far from it. She’d felt protective the first moment she saw that thin, anxious slip of a girl soaked through as they rescued her. But liking her was not the same as pronouncing her suitable to marry a Dale. If Emma had come from an ordinary, resp
