Chapter 31

Chapter 31 Piper's POV The next morning, I woke up to a bright light shining on my face. My mind skipped at first but as I slowly opened my eyes, I realized it was just the sunlight cracking through the window curtains. In an instant, the memories of what transpired between Mr Langford and I last night flooded my head. “Ugh…” I groaned. A sharp tingle sparked in my legs and just as I was about to check out what it was, I felt a sudden rush of irritation rise up in my stomach and move all the way up to my throat. My eyes widened in shock and fear at the same but before I could even think, a bitter taste filled my mouth. I pushed my duvet off and jumped out of bed, diving straight into the bathroom. A loud, guttural retching sound boomed from my mouth as I emptied the content of my stomach into the sink. My head suddenly went light…almost like I was afloat for a minute. My hands wobbled, barely managing to hold on to the door. The hair on my skin rose immediately. “Am I dying?”

Chapter 32

Chapter 32.Piper Pov.I stood in front of the mirror still as confused as ever, and the way I was feeling that morning only worse. The last time I felt this way was when I was with that son of a bitch. Ethan. This was the same way I was feeling before he held me in bed that night and serve me divorce papers the next morning throwing me out with nothing till this present moment he fucking doesn't care if I'm still breathing but I know him and his little silly mistress Selena would rather have me dead than know I still breathing of even going as far as knowing I was now being housed by his rival….a man that would go to war for my sake. The old keeper stood there staring at me like I had fallen off the stairs and hurt my face badly hence trouble looms from Jace.I turned to the mirror, shifting my gaze from the flower vase I had chosen to nurture since I got in here…it was growing beautifully.“Miss Piper..”.I didn't answer, I stood there in person but I was so lost in thought I didn'

Chapter 33.Piper Pov.His face was thin like he could read through my tough skin and see how anxious I was breaking in so badly.“Is there something I should know?”. His words are almost unbelievable.Something he should know in what sense?.I swallowed hard then answered forcing my eyes to look straight but I couldn't hold up for long, it kept on blinking repeatedly making me more nervous.Jace stared at me like he wanted me to say something so he could start from there.“Are you sure you're being honest on a lot of things?”. He asked again like he was certain I was hiding something.I opened my mouth to say the words then closed it again. Jace was pretty smart and anyway, a long move from my end would get me busted and I don't want any of that at least not now.“I'm not hiding anything from you but if there's something you heard and you need clarity then I'm all ears”. My voice is thin.“Uhm”. He stood there like a man who knows so much but decided to play numb and I felt really un

chapter 34

Piper Pov.The silence that followed stretched between us.I felt really nervous, but I still stood close to the window, tilting my legs ahead for closure.Jace stared at me like he was reading my whole life on a display monitor. I don't know how much he knows, but I know he knows quite a lot about Ethan and why the hell he was spying on me in his territory.I held the hem of the oversized shirt, squeezing it hard, trying to stay steady, knowing I was gradually falling apart.“Piper, are you going to play dumb or actually tell me what the hell is going on with that bastard?” Jace yelled, beginning to lose his patience.“I'm sorry you had to find out this way”. I swallowed.“If it's too much trouble, I'd just pack my things and leave. You don't have to bear the burden if a fire you didn't start “. I said finally, my eyes filled with tears.“You forgot the star you're in?” I raised my head slowly to meet his prying eyes.“You wanna go out of my sight with my baby growing inside of you?”

chapter 35

Ethan Pov.I sat on the couch, the coffee I w ,as supposed to be drinking was already turning warm, and I stood there lost in my own thoughts.Things hadn't been the same since she left, not after that night I came home making love to her in my conscious state sparked things up in my head but then I pulled up nonchalantly, slamming the divorce papers in her face like I felt nothing.I pulled my phone out slowly, the reports still very glaring and bold, she was with a new man, one I never thought she would have access to, how she moves lately keeps me on my toes because how the hell was my timid and ever obedient wife going out of character and pulling strings she had no link to?.Piper isn’t just in any man’s house, she’s with one of the most feared and dreaded, worst enough she was seen living in his office and rushing in his cars, I didn't believe till I saw the pictures and now I’m singing events I had made in a hurry.“If you had clipped her wigs when I asked you to or you let me

Chapter 36

Ethan's POV “What the hell do you mean you couldn't get her?” I yelled with my veins almost popping out. Dave, my stupid bodyguard stood a couple of feet away from me with his empty head hanging when it should be rolling off somewhere in a fucking desert. My chest pumped with rage and hot anger. My hands balled into a fist, holding back the thunderbolt of rage storming through my entire system. Dave rushed backwards when he saw the anger in my eyes. “I'm so sorry boss but he has her more guarded than I thought.” He muttered. My tongue flickered angrily. I couldn't believe what was happening. “And so fucking what? Do I not pay you to get things done regardless?” I spat in his face. He didn't say a word and that just added fuel to my anger. My eyes darted at my mess of a table, papers were lying everywhere. For the past two days, I couldn't close my eyes to sleep, not even a wink. My heart wouldn't stop racing in fear. Every minute I spent without having Piper in my possession felt

chapter 37

Piper's POV I couldn't sleep. Ever since that awkwardly uncomfortable conversation I had with Jace, my eyes refused to close even for a second. Even after I took two showers, turned off the lights in my room, buried myself under the duvet, all I could do was toss and turn around the bed restlessly. Jace's face flashed in my head for the hundredth time. The creepy look in his eyes when I told him about my stormy relationship with Ethan. I had never seen his eyes turn terribly dark and vengeful since I got here. The heat that filled the room as he assured me of my safety made my skin crawl with fear. I couldn't help but wonder what the hell he was planning to do. “What if he does something that puts him in danger?” I found myself thinking. My hands flew to my face and covered my eyes in frustration. Why did I have to end up in a dangerous mess like this? I mean, what the hell was I thinking when I broke into Ethan's office? What was I going to do with the information I extracted

chapter 38

Piper's POV You know that feeling you get when you dip your head inside the pool and suddenly come out for a breathe of air because it feels like you're drowning? That was the exact same thing I felt when my nose randomly twitched and I found myself sniffing really hard with my eyes closed. My mind instantly sank into confusion. My head was somewhat hazy so I couldn't remember a thing. My hands tightened as I tried opening my eyes but for some reason, it felt as though my eyes had been glued to my skin. Wait… Am I really drowning? Did someone glue my eyes together? The minute that thought flashed through my mind, my hands frantically pulled at everything it could. I grabbed whatever I could find in a frantic rush, hoping that none of the nightmarish thoughts in my mind were actually my reality. As I pulled at my environment, it occured to me that I wasn't drowning…because I was nowhere near a pool. I kicked my feet as another crazy thought played in my head. Ethan…What if he

Chapter 39

Piper's POV “I need to go outside.” I know, I know, I know he told me not to go outside because Ethan might be planning something stupid but really, if I already had a nightmare about it, doesn't it mean there's no possibility of it happening? Besides, I was bored to my bones. Because Jace caught me drowning myself in that bucket of ice cream last night, he refused to let me show up at the office, insisting that I needed to spend more time at home, eating and resting for the baby. Heck, I was barely a few weeks gone but he won't stop treating me like I was close to my due date. I spent my morning throwing up in his bathroom sink and retching out the entire content of my stomach. I'm certain I almost threw up my intestine in the process. Throwing up left my stomach and my entire body weak as hell. I wobbled to the ground after twenty minutes of holding my hair above my face and praying that my intestines don't roll out of my guts. Luckily, Jace had a small bell on his bedside

Chapter 40

Ethan's POV Just as I leaned back on my head rest, the sound of my phone ringing suddenly broke into the sleep I was trying to get. Something told me it was Christopher calling and that just made my heart start racing faster. The mere thought of having to tell him I was yet to capture Piper was something I detested with everything in me. My fingers clamped and tightened harder as the phone continued to ring and vibrate while I let my head hang behind, thinking of a way to evade him. “It would be worse if you ignore his call.” My subconscious told me. And I hated that it was right. I still had to tell that bastard something…good or not. So I sucked in my breath and lifted my face to look at my phone, ready to be roasted again. But to my surprise, it wasn't Christopher. I watched as Dave's name danced around on my screen. A wave of relief washed over me for a second, yet another pang of distress bit through my skin. “What if he doesn't have good news?” I thought to myself and
