The portal shimmered once, then sealed behind them with a low hum that echoed through the palace corridor. Althea staggered the moment her feet touched solid ground. Zander was quick to steady her, his hand closing around her arm as a faint glow passed between them. She felt it instantly. A warm current threading through her veins, steadying her breathing, easing the ache that still clung to her bones after healing Riela. “I’m transferring just enough energy,” Zander murmured quietly. “Not more than you can handle.” She nodded, grateful but too focused to speak. Her heart was pounding far louder than her footsteps as she straightened and lifted her gaze. 

The moment Rett released the attack, Cain moved without hesitation. With a guttural roar that shook the dungeon walls, his body shifted violently. Bones cracked and reshaped, muscles expanding as fur burst through his skin. In a blink, Cain stood between Althea and the incoming darkness, fully transformed into his Lycan form. “NO!” Althea screamed. The shadowed blade slammed into Cain’s chest instead. The impact was devastating. Dark magic exploded on contact, tearing through fur and flesh as Cain was thrown backward, crashing into the stone wall with enough force to fracture it.  The dungeon trembled violently, dust raining from the ceiling. 

Althea’s hands trembled at her sides. Slowly, she turned to Gavriel and gave him a faint, reassuring smile. The moment he saw it, his heart dropped. “No…” Gavriel growled, trying to step toward her, but the dark mist tightened instantly, locking him in place. That smile. He hated it. He could feel her emotions clearly through their bond, her resolve, her acceptance and her willingness to sacrifice herself. “Althea!” he shouted. “Don’t you dare!” Hades laughed, his voice echoing unnaturally through the hall. “Do you truly think you have power over me?” he mocked. “Did you not know that your Lycan strength was born from darkness?” His gaze

Melva moved quietly through the palace corridors as soon as she was transported back. Chaos was everywhere, even spilling into Zander’s domain, where everyone had lost control of their inner wolves and turned on one another. She didn’t know how it had started. All she knew was that Zander’s men had done everything they could to keep them from killing each other. Her memories after that were fragmented.  At some point, she felt her connection to her inner wolf snap, and then she lost consciousness along with the rest of the werewolves in Zander’s place. When she finally woke, Arlan explained what had happened—how darkness had twisted their inner wolves against them, and how a white light from heaven had descended and stopped it.
