Chapter 1

"Sir, can I call you Dad? You look so much like my father, from what I remember. I really miss him."When Amelia Pearson clung to Henry Foster with tears in her eyes, I knew right then that she had come back to this day, too.She looked up at him with those big, misty eyes. She was still just a girl, but there was no doubt she'd grow up to be beautiful.Just as I expected, Henry's eyes lit up, and he quickly bent down to gently help Amelia to her feet."Ms. Murphy, I feel a connection with this little girl. Why don't I take her home with me?"The orphanage director, Vanessa Murphy, couldn't help but glance at Amelia a few more times, obviously confused about why she'd suddenly changed her attitude and handed such a golden opportunity to someone else.Charlotte Evans stood there with a cold, unreadable expression as she pointed at me. "Then I'll adopt her," she said flatly. On the day Amelia and I parted, she gave me a meaningful smile. "From now on, I'm going to live the high li

Chapter 2

Charlotte had never married. She was an only child. After her father died in a car accident, she took over the Evans family business all by herself. In just ten years, she managed to multiply the family's assets several times over, turning an old, established company into a major force that no one in the business world could afford to ignore. So, it was no wonder that Amelia thought she was something special after becoming Charlotte's adopted daughter. But because Charlotte was so tough and decisive, she made plenty of enemies among her relatives. Those greedy for a piece of the pie did everything they could to get their own children in front of her, hoping to curry favor. When it became clear Charlotte wasn't going to marry, they tried even harder, but she kept her distance and eventually chose to adopt from an orphanage instead. That was why Amelia had been bullied in her previous life.Even though I thought I was ready for anything, once I actually entered the Evans residence,

I glanced over at their phones, catching sight of the fact that they were recording everything. That meant I already had proof in hand if I needed it.I'd put up with their nonsense up to now, not because I was afraid, but because I was waiting for the right time to fight back. I never looked for trouble, but I sure wasn't going to run from it.The very next second, I rammed my head into one girl's stomach and landed a hard kick to her leg.Another girl tried to jump in, but I was quicker. I grabbed her by the hair and slammed her head onto a desk. Then, I went for Olivia, who'd hit me the hardest. I tackled her to the ground and slammed my fists into her, targeting the places her clothes would cover. The last girl just stood there, stunned. By the time she snapped out of it, she kicked me in the back and punched me twice in the face, leaving my nose bloody.Nobody came out of that fight looking good. I got jumped by the group, but none of those four girls walked away unscathed e

Chapter 4

In my previous life, the only reason Henry agreed to let me go to university was to polish my image and make me look good on paper. He planned to use me one day in a marriage alliance to build ties with other powerful families. Now, Amelia was living the exact same life I had once suffered through. She glared at me, her nails digging into her palms, and muttered under her breath, "So what? That's still better than getting yelled at and beaten every day."Her eyes were filled with hatred and malice. "You can stay poor and miserable for the rest of your life. Rot in the dirt for all I care!"With that, Amelia turned and walked away, leaving me standing there.Just then, Charlotte pulled up in her car and strolled over to me. "I bought you some new outfits. Try them on at home, and then you can go with me to the next gala."I smiled and nodded. Who said my days were tough? This felt like real happiness to me.After spending the weekend at home, I returned to my dorm and was surpris

Chapter 5

Every year, our university held a scholarship awards ceremony. As the student leader, I was in charge of collecting the nominations from each class. One day, I left my laptop open and stepped away to use the toilet. When I came back, I noticed that the nomination form had been altered.I didn't make a fuss, though. I just quietly sent the file to the teacher in charge. The day before the financial aid was to be distributed, our advisor, Benjamin Clark, stormed into the classroom and shot me a furious glare. He was nothing like the man who had once tried to curry favor with me in my previous life.He slammed a stack of papers down in front of me. "Emma, look at what you've done! You really had the nerve to put your name down for the only scholarship spot in our class? We gave you that right to handle the nomination issue, not so you could use it for yourself!"The whole class erupted. After all, the scholarship was hotly contested every year. There were quite a few students from s

Chapter 6

The next day, Amelia bought drinks for the whole class as an apology. She even handed mine to me personally."Emma, I'm really sorry for what happened yesterday. I misunderstood you," she said sweetly. "So, I bought you a drink to say sorry. Will you forgive me?"I looked down at the mango juice in my hand and let out a quiet laugh. In my previous life, after we were reunited, I felt sorry for Amelia and secretly looked out for her.Yet, driven by jealousy, she knew I was allergic to mangoes, yet she tricked me into drinking mango juice anyway. Worse still, she had laced it with poison ivy sap. After just one sip, I broke out in hives, my face swelled up like a balloon. I ended up with mouth ulcers and eventually chronic kidney issues.Even then, before I could even blame her, she turned on the waterworks. "Emma, I had no idea you were allergic to mangoes. I'm so sorry," she sobbed, but the smirk playing at the corner of her lips made it clear she was anything but sorry. And now

Chapter 7

Olivia spent three days in the hospital before she finally came back. She told everyone she'd had an allergic reaction to the mangoes in the juice, but still went around spreading rumors that I had forced her to drink it.For a while, a few classmates who already had it out for me kept whispering behind my back.I paid them no mind. After all, it was always lonely at the top.Back at the dorm, Olivia was still covered in red rashes, yet she sat beside Amelia, laughing and chatting like nothing had happened. When I noticed the familiar bracelet on Olivia's wrist, I couldn't help but sigh. Amelia really was generous, clearly willing to spend whatever it took to win Olivia over.Olivia, catching sight of me, rolled her eyes every chance she got, but the effect was almost comical with her face looking the way it did."Some people hurt others and don't even bother to apologize. She's still clinging to a spot that was never hers in the first place. Talk about having no shame. If it we

Chapter 8

Olivia, provoked by my words, jumped to her feet and pointed at me. Then, she threw the creepy doll right at my feet."Who told you to put that doll in the box? Amelia and I opened it and got so scared. That's how we fell and got hurt."The room went quiet as soon as those words left her mouth. What an idiot! She just handed me all the evidence I needed. It turned out that after I left the dorm, their curiosity got the better of them. Olivia had climbed up to get the box.But when she saw the doll inside, she was so startled that she fell off the ladder and crashed into Amelia. That was how both of them got injured.I bent down, picked up the grotesque little doll, and stared straight at the two of them. "So, according to your story, I deliberately tried to scare you, right? But as I recall, my doll was on my bed. Why were you two up there messing with my things anyway? My bed is on the top bunk."The looks from everyone around us changed in an instant. So, the truth was, the "v

Chapter 9

By the end of the year, every company in Eastborough was preparing to host their annual galas.Hoping to mend ties with the Evans family, Henry threw a lavish banquet and invited all the big names from Eastborough's elite circles. Then, just like in my previous life, Henry stood proudly before the crowd, holding Amelia's hand as he made a big announcement."Ladies and gentlemen, after so many years, I've finally found my long-lost daughter, Amelia Foster. From now on, she and Adam will each inherit half of the Foster estate!"Up on the stage, Amelia's face flushed with excitement. She shot me a smug, triumphant look from across the room.Just as I was sitting down in the garden, Amelia and Olivia strolled over. Amelia was all smiles, like she didn't have a care in the world."So what if Charlotte likes you? You're never going to get a single cent of her fortune. Once I inherit everything from the Fosters, I'll finally live the life I deserve. You can sit there and envy me all you

Chapter 10

When Amelia finally came to her senses, her face went completely pale. She let out a piercing scream and yanked the covers over her head. "No, no, no! Why am I here?"She just couldn't wrap her head around it. She'd watched with her own eyes as I drank the wine, so how did she end up being the one whose life was ruined?Meanwhile, Adam lunged at Henry, throwing punch after punch until he lay unconscious.Just then, Olivia burst into the room and grabbed Adam's arm. "Adam, don't hurt yourself. It breaks my heart to see you like this. It was Amelia who told me she had a thing for your dad. He never returned her feelings, so she decided to drug him tonight."Amelia sat there dazed, and only then did it dawn on her that Olivia had already switched sides.I'd noticed the way Olivia kept sneaking shy glances at Adam during the visit to the nurse's office that day.Adam might have been violent, but there was no denying he was good-looking. Amelia had tried to get Olivia on her side with
