GabrielHer body felt warm against mine. Her fingers were everywhere, slowly sliding down my chest with so much ease. She knew my body all too well. There was a time I enjoyed her touching me like this, but right now, I wasn't even aroused, even with her naked body pressed against mine.“You don't come to me anymore,” she whispered into my ear as she placed a gentle kiss on it. “I thought you might have gotten tired of me or something.”Her voice was smooth and seductive, but I felt nothing.“I missed you,” she said again.I said nothing. No matter how I tried, my mind kept pulling me back to Elysia. The way she looked terrified when I spoke to her, like she was nothing, like she was just a common servant.I hurt her.I didn't need anyone to say it out loud. I saw it. I felt it. It weighed heavily in my chest.I felt her hand drift lower and lower. That was when I stopped her.“Don't,” I whispered.“Come on,” she smiled seductively. “You used to love this. I bet I can make you happy.

SylvieI was trying so hard to run away from my own thoughts, but I knew that was impossible. That didn’t stop me from trying. The maid stood behind me, fingers gentle as she walked them through my hair, twisting and pinning it with so much precision it was obvious she’d done this for years. Gold dripped from the mirror, silk draped over my shoulders. I looked beautiful, like a princess should, but I felt empty. My thoughts went to Elysia, and then Gabriel.I knew something was wrong with those two, and I felt so powerless to fix it.I pressed my lips into a thin line, fighting the tightness in my chest. Elysia looked like a shadow of herself, but she always tried to cover it with a smile. She’s working herself to death, thank you my twin brother, who just became cold, distant, and cruel. It was a side of him that scared me.I didn’t know where to start. I didn’t know how to help them. The palace felt quieter. People now spoke in hushed voices when I passed. No one included me in anyt

GabrielI didn’t care who saw us.I carried her through the halls, her body limp, her head pressed against my chest. Guards moved out of the way as I stormed through.“Get the physician,” I yelled. “NOW.”One of the guards took off immediately, almost tripping over his own feet. Her breathing was becoming too shallow, scaring the hell out of me.“No, no… please stay with me,” I whispered as I kicked the door to my chambers open.I slowly laid her down on the bed, her skin warm but she didn’t move. With shaky hands, I brushed the messy strands of hair from her face.“Elysia, you are going to be fine. Do you hear me? I won’t let anything happen to you, just hold on.” I pressed a finger to her wrist, and her pulse was faint, sending fear through me. We can’t lose her, Zayne said, moving restlessly inside of me.“Please… please,” I whispered, leaning close to her. “Don’t do this, Elysia.” With every second that passed, her heartbeat slowed. The doors burst open moments later, the palace p

GabrielCarl and Sylvie left my chambers, leaving me alone in the quiet room.I paced back and forth, back and forth.I tried everything within my power not to breathe, everything within my reach. I clenched and unclenched my fists so many times. I held Zayne in. I couldn’t let myself shift now, it would be a double distraction. Then the knock landed on the door.“Enter,” I said before facing the direction of the door. One of my men stepped in, bowing slightly. “We found her, my lord.”Those words calmed me down just slightly.“She left the palace in a carriage, took the back roads, and went home.”Home.My heart was still beating very fast. “Is she safe?”“Yes, your majesty. She is with her mother.”I exhaled slowly, the tension easing only a fraction. “Good.”The man hesitated before he spoke again. “Should we bring her back?”“No,” I said quickly. “Not yet. Just let her be.”The man nodded before stepping out the door. And once again, I was left in silence.“You never should have l

SylviaI was furious at him. Absolutely furious. But that didn’t mean I didn’t love him.And that was the problem—only if there was a way to be mad at him without caring.I found him exactly where I knew he would be—at the balcony in his chambers, staring at the sky.I stood still for a moment, just watching him. And he looked lost. Broken. And it broke my heart to see him like this.“Do you know you’re an asshole?” I said, stepping closer. He didn’t turn immediately. Then slowly, he looked over his shoulder.“Gabriel, what the hell is wrong with you?” I scolded. He stared at me, confused. “What are you talking about?”I walked further into the room, folding my arms across my chest. “I know what you did.”“Okay… what did I do?”“Don’t play dumb with me, brother.”His jaw tightened slightly. “You have to be more specific, because I have no idea what the hell you’re talking about.”“I know what you did to Elysia. Even if she refuses to speak to anyone, the guards aren’t blind. They talk
