"That freaking brat said that to me?" Lucretius asked through gritted teeth when I told him the message from Commander Rachelle as soon as I arrived. "She has a mouth on her. Tell her I appreciate the concern for my mobility."I pressed my lips into a thin line to suppress the smile that was about to show on my face. Now, I could understand why Commander Rachelle was able to provoke him.Lucretius disliked being called an old man."What are you smiling about?" he asked, one brow climbing.I froze, gulping, and opened my mouth. "Nothing," I lied clumsily. I was about to add another word, but then we were interrupted when the door opened and Horace stepped in, carrying two boxes."The dresses have arrived, Alpha," he reported after bowing his head.Lucretius' expression changed and became unreadable as he nodded. "Show her," he ordered. My heart leaped out of my ribcage. "Dresses?" I parroted. It was finally here? I almost blurted out.Horace carefully opened the first box and drew back

In the middle night of the party, my eyes caught Romina standing beside Lilith, conversing with each other. They looked perfectly at ease with each other, looking like their bond as future mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.Lilith's smile was demure, her posture flawless. She really knew how to please others and looked elegant, which easily charmed Romina's heart. My throat tightened. Romina, Redmund's mother. And Lilith, her future daughter-in-law...If only the wound of betrayal were still fresh, I would definitely be depressed that Romina seemed like Lilith, even though she wasn't even Redmund's mate. I would even wish that I were in Lilith's position, talking to Romina.I snapped back to my thoughts when Redmund approached them, approaching his mother as he kissed her on her cheek. Romina smiled and opened her mouth as she gestured her hand toward Lilith as if she wanted to share the conversation she had with her.Redmund showed his perfect set of white teeth, his hazel eyes gleam

When Lucretius brought us to his private chamber, I was starting to feel my eyes getting heavier, my head already leaning on his shoulder. As soon as he gently lay me down on his bed, I struggled to fight off the drowsiness threatening to take over. His faint scent of sandalwood and smoke lingered in the air. It wrapped around me like an invisible thread, comforting yet dizzying at the same time. My hands gripped the sheets beneath me as I tried to stay awake, blinking away.He crouched in front of me, gently taking off my heels before proceeding to sit on the edge of the bed to remove the hair ornaments on my head. "You did well tonight," he murmured, his tone gentler than I had ever heard from him. "I didn't expect you'd play the part so perfectly."A sleepy smile tugged at my lips. "Play the part?" I parroted. "Of course. Did you see their reaction? It's the most fascinating view I've ever seen."His lips curled into a knowing smirk when he gently pulled the last hair ornament and

I didn't know how many times we had been doing it, but the last thing I remember before falling asleep was that my legs were too jaded to move. When I woke up, the outside of the window was already dark. Then, the horror etched on my face upon seeing the time was already seven in the evening."Did you sleep well, wifey?"I was still groggy and horrified when I finally noticed Lucretius, who was leaning on the doorframe of the walk-in closet with a towel covering his lower body, crossing his arms over his chest, and grinning upon seeing me waking up. I also noticed the droplets of water cascading down from his neck to his sculpted, lean chest. It didn't escape me, raking my eyes down to his six-pack abs, making me gulp. The moment I saw him, I recalled how he took me to every corner of this room. His ragged breathing, his husky, dark promises, his touches that seemed burning, his deep thrusting and pacing... Everything! They kept rewinding in my mind that I averted my gaze when I felt

When the dinner was over and the servants cleared the last of the plates, Romina was still giggling over Lucretius's shameless remarks to me until my face had gone red before she and Lorenzo had finally excused themselves for the night. Then, Redmund and Lilith followed soon after. The stiff smile from Lilith was the most unforgettable for me, and I even smiled sweetly at her in return to infuriate her. I could have sworn her face darkened before they left. When the dining hall doors closed behind them, Lucretius and I were enveloped with an unspoken victory of silence.I was finishing my tea when Lucretius rose first, stretching his arms a little as if he hadn't just spent the last hour toying with everyone's nerves."That went quite well, wouldn't you say, wifey?"I shot him a glare as I dabbed my lips with the napkin. "You mean humiliating. For me."I was so close to throwing things at him earlier when he kept teasing me about what he was going to do with me later. Romina was indee
