“How are you feeling now?” Adams asked, his eyes lingering on me when I appeared in the living room.I smiled faintly. “I’m okay.” Then I sat on the couch opposite him. “You don’t have to stay, Adams. I’m totally fine.”He rose from his seat and sat right next to me, taking my hand while he mumbled, “I… I know. But I hate losing the people I care about, especially when they’re right in front of my eyes.”Was he saying he cared about me? I didn’t want that kind of care. I was done with men meddling in every detail of my life.“I lost my parents right before my eyes,” he said, his face hard as steel.“Aw. I’m sorry… I… I didn’t know,” I mumbled.“No, you don’t,” he added, shaking his head.“I lost my biological parents too,” I said; unlike him, my voice held no emotion. He looked at me, searching my eyes as if I were a mystery he wanted to solve.I smiled, unsure what to say or do. “What’s wrong?”He took a deep breath and said, “Then I guess we can understand each other’s pain, right?”
