BRONZEI watch Venus turn her back and leave the room silently. Once she closes the door, my skin prickles with anger. I run my hand through my hair again as my head throbs. This is a mess. Who would have thought I’d get my mate the day I was going to propose to Venus to become my Luna? This is the reason I hate the Goddess. She’s just a cruel woman who loves to play with our emotions. On top of that, Venus shocked me. I believed she was mature enough to understand the situation. We have been together for so many years. Couldn’t she have faith in me for a few hours? No, she had to walk in and act all immature. What the fuck happened to her? I’m the one who’s going to have to fight against fate, and she’s making it all about herself. Women are really emotional fools. “I agree,” Nor speaks in my head. He’s my wolf. “She had no fucking idea how much strength it took me to not grab that hot blonde and kiss her!” I growl in my head. I didn’t expect the mate bond to be this strong. It’

VENUS“Finally, the Alpha has a strong mate by his side. I heard she’s more beautiful than Miss Venus.” The omega maid says in a hushed voice while she stands outside the guestroom. “Of course she is. At least she won’t faint or lose her breath in the middle of the events. The Alpha won’t have to worry about taking care of a weak woman who has no merit except her family name,” another maid replies and chuckles. I stand before the door, hearing them gossip. They don’t realize I’m in the guestroom, eavesdropping. Well, there’s no point. Everyone knows that the Alpha has found his mate and refused to get engaged to me. It’s clear that they are happy about it. No one here likes me because of my weak body. The pack members are unaware of the celestial wolf, so they believe I am destined to be without a wolf. I never cared since Bronze always took my side. I can fight against the world if he’s beside me. He’s my strength. My fingers clench the comb handle tighter than needed. But is h

VENUSTwo hours have passed since I left the meeting and have seen Bronze. I don’t know when the meeting ends, so I’m guessing he’s still busy. I stroll through the packhouse’s garden, the solitude and the cool, gentle breeze calming my nerves.I wonder if Bronze is with Mallory right now. I can’t stop remembering Sydney’s sympathetic look. Maybe she is right to feel sorry for me. I catch his scent and hear his footsteps before I hear his voice.“Venus.” He walks over to me with a straight face. “Why did you leave the meeting?” I hold back a scoff. He’s asking me this after two hours. Not that I expected much since he’s the Alpha of the pack. “My opinion wasn’t required since Mallory was there,” I say in a sarcastic tone. His face hardens. “You’re still doubting me?” “Why shouldn’t I? You allowed Mallory to live in the packhouse and now she’s participating in the training camp.” I retort, my anger rushing to the surface. “I had no choice. The elders were pressuring me. You saw i

VENUS“How will you help us?” Simon asks her. She sits on the couch next to our seats, right by Bronze. I feel his muscles tense over her presence. “I’m the royal princess of Eroz, so I can provide extra security for the camp by bringing my men here. The King won’t question the security provided by a powerful royal kingdom.” She says and looks at Bronze. “But we need a thorough plan for it and go to his castle to talk to him directly. He won’t believe it until he meets me.” My chest tightens as waves of dread engulf me. Mallory is using her power to get closer to Bronze. Bronze sighs in thought. “Fine. We’ll make a plan and then head to his castle,” He responds without looking at her. Simon smiles. “Then we are a team.” “I’d help in any way I can,” I say, and everyone looks at me.My heart clenches at the look on their faces. They have no intention of including me in this.“I don’t think you can be of much help here, Venus,” Mallory says in a gentle tone, as if not trying to offen

VENUSThe next morning, I am doing my archery practice on the training grounds when Mallory walks in. I restrain myself from shooting her with my arrow and avoid her. I don’t like her and I don’t need to act nice. “Hey, I see how much you guys love each other. I don’t intend to come in between that. I don’t think I can ever have what you have with him,” she says, and I see the sadness in her eyes. She scoffs. “I didn’t wish for this, but I can’t stay away from him because of my wolf.” I simply nod in understanding. I can’t blame anyone here because it’s fate’s fault for putting us in this situation. —-------------------------Bronze and Mallory leave the pack to head to the Alpha King’s castle. A month passes and I talk to him through the phone, but he has been speaking less to me because of his busy schedule and I don’t bother since I focus on training myself for the camp. Sydney also went with them, and she calls me since we have become good friends. We’d talk about various thi

VENUSI freeze, my mind going blank as the words echo in my ears. Did I hear that right? Bronze is making Mallory his Luna?“What the actual fuck?” Sydney curses beside me, “I didn’t hear any of this in the meeting.” “Yes, finally! A worthy Luna for our pack!” one man amongst the audience shouts, raising his fist as the crowd erupts in cheers. I stand there, invisible in plain sight, watching the joy on their faces. It’s the kind of celebration I always dreamed of. A bitter sting spreads through my chest. Would they have ever cheered like this for me?My heart sinks as I realize the truth. They won’t. But it doesn’t matter anymore. Bronze has made his decision. “Before you all get too excited,” he says, raising his voice above the murmurs, “let me add one important detail. Mallory is only my temporary Luna. I’ll be rejecting her once the training camp ends.”A hush falls over the crowd. And then, for the first time, his gaze flickers toward me. My breath catches in my throat. I

“Let’s go,” Sydney wraps her arm around my back and leads me towards the exit. I look at the stage for the last time and see the disgust on the people’s faces. I also see the pity in Bronze’s eyes as he looks at me. Mallory comes up to him and helps him manage the angry mob. They look perfect beside each other and the people seem to respect and adore them. It makes my stomach coil. Once we are inside, I feel the tears stream down my eyes. Sydney notices that and rushes over to me. “Hey! Don’t cry. It’s not your fault. Come, sit,” she makes me sit on the bed and winces when she sees how swollen my right eye is. “This will take time to heal.” She mumbles and tends to my swollen eye. The cool touch of the ointment soothes my skin, but nothing soothes the ache inside. Bronze’s proposal should have meant everything. Instead, it felt empty, like he was fulfilling a promise, not making one from the heart. They already despised me. Bronze, naming Mallory as Luna, only confirmed what eve

VENUSBronze stares at me, frozen in disbelief. But when the weight of my words sinks in, he abruptly rises to his feet, his voice erupting in rage.“What have you done, Venus? How could you do this?” he shouts. The dam inside me finally bursts. Tears stream down my face, as the ache in my chest threatens to crush me. I never wanted this. I wanted to fight for us. I wanted to believe we still had a chance. But deep down, I knew it would never work. Not when he already belonged to someone else.I should’ve never stood between two fated mates.“Take your words back,” his voice breaks as he gets down on his knees and holds my hand. “Please, Venus. Just don’t do this. Don’t lose faith in us.” I shake my head while sobbing. “My decision is final.” I say firmly, even though those words feel like they are ripping my soul out of me. Bronze looks up at me, his eyes red and swollen with tears. He lets go of my hand and gets up. “I won’t accept this. I don’t accept your rejection!” He growls.

VENUSFlashback continuesHe chuckles. “Mating is stupid.” When Bronze shifted into his wolf for the first time, I expected him to claim me as his mate. But that did not happen, as I am not his fated mate. I frown. “No, it’s not. Mom and dad are fated mates and they are so happy with each other.” I argue. He smirks. “That’s not true.” I feel offended by his words, but before I can retort, he adds. “They are together because they love and trust each other. Them being mates has nothing to do with it.” My eyes widen as I understand his point. He looks into my eyes as says. “I love you because of you, not because the Goddess says so. That’s why my love is special.” He whispers, and my heart skips a beat. “I can prove it to you if you don’t believe me.”He leans in and sinks his canines into my neck. A sharp gasp escapes me as the pain flashes through my skin. He’s marking me.My heart pounds wildly as the bond begins to form, threading its way through my soul, tethering us together.
