Wren“Who sent you?” Ezra sneers. The young guy—that looks more like a teenager than an adult—doesn’t respond.Ezra’s fist shoots out, hitting him straight in the nose. I wince.Blood splatters out, and the guy groans with the little strength he has left, cupping his nose. All my appetite quickly vanishes, stomach churning.“I’m not going to ask you again,” Ezra says. “Who sent you? What club do you belong to?”The guy still doesn’t respond. My eyes drift to Ezra. His face is hard, chest heaving with barely controlled rage.He scoffs suddenly. “You’re not going to talk, yea?”Ezra runs his bloody knuckles through his damp hair, pacing. We all watch, waiting for what he’ll do.“Torch, Clay and Quinn,” Ezra calls, and all the three men step out of the crowd with matching scowls. The guy trembles at the sight of more bulky men, eyes wide in terror. His fear strikes something in me, and when his eyes meet mine… I know I have to help.Ezra nods at the guys. “Hold him down.”They man-handl

Wren Rolling my full cart towards the pay station, Ezra’s jaw drops when he sees me. “One of those bags better contain a better attitude,” he says, still staring at the bags. I roll my eyes, glancing at his empty hands. “If you didn’t get anything, move. Stop hoarding the cash point.” He steps out of the way, eyes inspecting every item I take out. The cashier scans, and packs them up for me. As soon as the bill is printed, Ezra beeps his card, paying for my items. My grin is wide. “Well, thank you.” “What? No argument?” His brows pinch together as he pockets his card. “Why would I argue about you paying my bills?” I frown. “I’m just a girl, Ezra, and you’ve just saved me money.” He chuckles. “Just like that?” “If you’re feeling a little more gentlemanly…I’m sure you won’t mind grabbing my bags too.” I hand him the shopping bags. He takes them, his muscles flexing from the weight, and we make our way to his car. “When Raymond asked me to take you shopping, I didn

EzraThe car ride back is gruesome, and I can feel the irritation rolling off Wren in waves. My lips twitch.“I think if I start walking back, I’ll get there before you do,” she grumbles, pink lips in a pout.I don’t have it in me to respond. I’m busy managing the throbbing pain in my leg.“Just let me drive, Ezra,” she snaps, spinning to face me. “What is your problem? You’re obviously in pain, yet you want to keep torturing yourself…and me with this snail pace.”I give her a brief look. “I can’t let you drive, Wren.”“Why not?”“Because I don’t trust your driving,” I reply. “Hell, I don’t know when or how you got your license.”She slaps a palm on her face. “Then let me prove my driving to you!”“No, thanks.”“At this rate, we’ll probably arrive in two months.”A chuckle actually falls from my lips at that. “You’re very impatient—”“Of course I am,” she bites back. “Let me drive, Ezra. Stop the goddamn car.”“Birdie…”“I’m not playing around. Either you hit the gas, or you pull the

WrenThat word is enough to put our masks back on, shoving the last five minutes to the back of our brains.“Birdie, you know I’m not myself, not with losing so much blood,” Ezra says, tugging on a fresh shirt. “I’m still not attracted to you.”My smile is tight, his words cutting me regardless. “Likewise. Mine is definitely the adrenaline. I’ll go see my brother now.”I walk past him. He doesn’t look at me, or say anything. Not when I walk past him, and definitely not when I walk out of the room.Ray stands at the bottom of the stairs, hands on his hips.“Ray,” I call. My voice is soft, shaky. He turns immediately, and rushes up the stairs in a minute.“Chirp!” He pulls me into his chest, his heart pounding hard against my ears. He holds me away, inspecting me. “Are you hurt? Is that blood?”His finger wipes at something on my neck, and I remember Ezra’s hands there a few minutes ago.“It’s not mine,” I say. “It’s Ezra’s, I was cleaning him up.”“Jesus, this is crazy,” he mutters, r

WrenIt’s been two weeks since that fiasco. Safe to say Ezra and I have gone back to being very unfriendly. Maliciously so.“Chirp!” Raymond walks over to where I’m seated beside Torch, munching on a Pringle. He hands me a flask. “Quincy sent you some chicken soup.”My smile is wide, the scent making my tastebuds water. “Really? That’s so sweet of her, she knows I’d rather soon die of starvation.”“You’re not starving.” Ray laughs. “I’d say you’ve put on some weight.”“Lies!” I yell, jogging to the kitchen so I can turn the food into a plate.“Birdie!” Ezra pokes his head in, and my excitement dies.“Go back into your hole, Ezra.” I grab a spoon and my food, heading back to Ray.He smiles when I settle on the stool beside him. “How’s Quincy, does she know I miss her?” Ray’s girlfriend is the absolute best. I had visited her once this week.“She misses you too. You know, I wanted you to move in, but she’s pregnant. And you’re kind of a target now.”“It’s fine, I understand. You need
