Chapter 10. LURKING SECRETS. __PovI had stayed in Alpha Darius' chamber listening to all the reports the head council laid. Damn!Whoever was behind it all was really smart. Who could ever rob alpha Darius while he slept even? Yet, as I admired the person's bravery, my heart thumped in an irregular beat. It was either because I feared the wrath of Alpha Darius’ claws on this criminalOr The safety of the people. Sweat beads had started to form on his hands and even though he hadn't seen it, I saw how fast his veins popped out. I saw how worked up he became once he flexed his muscles and furrowed his brows. And there, I made up my mind. If I was Mira, I would be strong. I held the remaining bandage in my hands and walked down the hallway. Like they say, bad news is the first to spread like wildfire. In no less than an hour, the maids already start to whisper, guards started to murmur, eyes scanning the area as they peeped to see if anyone out of their checks could hear them.

CHAPTER 12 __ MIRA’S POV. Name Your Wish“You have done so well last night and even now, you deserve a little reward now, don’t you?” Alpha Darius asked as he rubbed his palm against my right cheek bone, playfully. A tinge of red flashed against the spot he had rubbed and I just nodded. A small smile crept on his lips, my eyes flickered in surprise. With how rigid and composed he always was, I least expected a rub on the cheek from him, not to talk of a small smile. And that made my toes curl. “Now, tell me, hun. What is it that you wish for?” his words lingered in my mind, my eyelashes fluttered. I parted my lips but as the words didn't seem like they would come through, I shut it. “Name anything, and I would grant it.” His voice was now deeper and more intent than earlier. Now, I raised my head to look at him even more closer as my legs had moved even before my mind signaled to do so. Chapter 14. __POV. THE MASTER. The seven year old me giggled as I jumped and twirled through the garden, singing a rhyme and letting my fingers trail some flowers for the feel of it when the soft whimpers of a cat made me stop. I turned to the direction of its faint purr, ‘meowww’. And once I found it, wounded and weak, its eyes already changing colours and life almost draining out of it, my heart had clenched. And so I crouched low to its level, brushed my fingers over it and with much gentleness, I carried it to my hands like it were some child before I walked over to a low pavement I could climb. I laid him down gently and then sat beside it before I opened the book in my hands to read. It was titled, “SPELLS AND CHANTS.”As one of my best books, I never stopped reading it and to my younger self, it felt very useful, although many thought of it as fiction. Chapter 18. A WOMAN'S FACE ON MINE. MIRA'S POV. The night sky turned red, lanterns hung above the courtyard with the stars matching up its strength. The drummers beat their drums in rhythm with the singers, the flute played accompanying the melody of the beats. The scent of roasted meat and wine filled my nostrils. It was the night of the blood moon, the most sacred of festivals, when the pack celebrated renewal, unity and the goddess who blessed them with their first bond. I stood by the ball's entrance, amazed yet lost. Lost in the love the villagers showed as they danced, sang and cheered together. The people danced barefoot in circles. Once they jumped, the rattle tied to their legs clings and the beads on their waist jingled as they shook and twirled. The elders sat by the fire clapping, the children sat on another end laughing, a paint of red and ash drawn on their faces. I chuckled at one who cried that they had wiped his power away. When someone tugged at my hand, I
