ARLENEMy head swung towards the door, my chest rising in fear and panic when I heard my brother's voice.“Jaden?" Luna Valerie called in surprise, and I felt my heart unclench.I sighed loudly and rubbed my forehead when I saw my brother's son there instead.Jaden grinned and ran into the room, a sling in his hand.“You thought it was father, didn't you?" Jaden asked as he ran into his mother's arms.“Yes, how did you do that?" I asked, trying hard to sound okay.He grinned and nodded, his eyes sparkling.“I don't know. I just know how to imitate people's voices. You two looked so frightened by the way, are you hiding something, aunty?" Jaden blurted out, and my heart gave a wild leap.I forced a smile onto my face and shook my head, glancing sharply at Luna Valerie. She narrowed her eyes and sighed.“No, little chipmunk, we are not hiding anything," I said and pinched his cheek. He squeaked and folded into a ball, grinning from ear to ear.“Hey, Jaden, go to your room and take a sho

ARLENE “This is what I found!” I gasped as I slapped down the blade on the table.Valerie looked up from the book she was reading and picked up the blade while I moved over to the dressing room to change my clothes.“Where did you find this?” I heard her ask from the bedroom.“The janitor’s house,” I responded with confusion creeping in. She was quite aware that I had gone to the janitor's place to search for evidence.“Where? In his bedroom?” She asked again.“In his kitchen,” I paused as flashes of the dried blood and cuts appeared in my mind.I wondered if it was right to tell Valerie of what I found in that room underground.“Was this the only thing you found?” She asked.I felt twists in my belly as I looked down at the journal on top of the piled-up clothes. My conscience and wolf screamed that I should say no but I couldn't.“Yes, that was the only thing I found,” I blurted out a lie.Valerie's silence from the bedroom made me doubt her ignorance. I slowly got out of the room

ARLENE I stood frozen, staring at the pile of clothes before me. I blinked, my chest tightening in horror when I saw a space at the place the journal was kept. I slowly shuffled forward, my neck strained and my eyes wide as saucers. I gasped out and leaned down, pulling the clothes up. My heart began to race and shock waves rocked my body when I realized that the journal was gone from the place. “How is that possible?” I whispered in horror. I shook my head in dismay and began to pull the clothes out, flipping them in and out to be sure it didn't fall off into one of the clothes even though that wasn't possible. “Where could it be? Where could it be?” I whispered in a quivering voice as I searched the entire place. The longer I searched, the more restless I became. I jerked up after searching the entire place for over an hour. I pulled my hair back, letting out a tired, frustrated groan. I stood up and began to stagger out of the room, my body heating up and my head swirling i

ARLENE “What is going on?” Killian asked calmly. I was in their office after Valerie convinced them to bring me back to the Pack if they wanted to question me. I leaned back into the chair, rubbing my knuckles under the chair while searching for a lie to tell them.“Arlene?” I slowly looked up when Killian called me again. The soft haze in his eyes was gone, pointing out that he didn't have that patience for my silence. I turned my head to the side and felt my heart skip a beat when my eyes fell on Lucian. He was arranging books on the bookshelf. Books that didn't need the arrangements. He paused and craned his neck, his dark eyes raising to look at me.I quickly looked away, gulping hard as I felt chills wash over my body. I was quite relieved with Killian but definitely not with Lucian. He was ready to choke me to death if I didn't give him a satisfactory reason.“She stole from me,” I blurted out an absurd response.Killian's head shot up in confusion and his eyes narrowed. I co

ARLENE The moment his car pulled up in the garage, I got out and marched towards the royal building of the manor.I could hear Miles's footsteps behind me, but I didn't care to turn to look at him or anyone else who walked past me. Servants greeted, and a few women of the court waved with false smiles on their faces, but I didn't return their greeting, nor did I return their fake smiles.I kept walking, my heart crushing with every step I took closer to the royal building. The name on the paper kept flashing in my eyes. His name.I managed to keep my head high and tears in until I had crossed the bustling hall, the silent hallway, and was behind the doors of my bedroom.I slumped down to the ground and buried my face in my palm whimpering in agony. The air in this Pack was oppressive, and no matter how hard I tried to shove it off my mind, I still couldn't forget what I had seen.A sharp knock on the door jolted me out of the pain I was drowning in I quickly wiped away the tears on
