Chapter 161Tessa Ford ~•~I didn’t call Zane back. I was already feeling overstimulated and I wasn’t in the mood to talk to anybody. I was going to call him when I got back home. “I’m sorry that we didn’t end up getting dinner, but I’ll order takeout for you,” I apologized to Nora as I pulled up at her porch. “Don’t worry about it. We can always have dinner another time,” she replied as she took off the seatbelt. “And breathe, okay? Everything is going to be okay.” I forced a smile even though I felt like shit deep down. “Okay, thank you.” After she left, I stayed on her porch for a few more minutes before I finally drove back home. I made a stop at another restaurant to get dinner for the kids. By the time I got back home, I was already exhausted. I handed the takeout to the kids and made my way back to my room. I showered and changed into my nightwear. The kids came to my room and requested that I read them a bedtime story, but I had to decline politely. “Are you tired?”

Chapter 162Tessa Ford ~•~After dropping the kids off at school, I went straight to my office. I had a lot to work on, but the entire time I was distracted. I kept looking at my phone, I was hoping I would get a text from Zane. Or even from Grayson. It felt like I was about to lose my mind. But still, I forced myself to work on the dresses that I had to deliver to clients in a few days. After about three hours, I took a break. I had a quick snack and also tried calling Zane for the umpteenth time. I rolled my eyes when the call went straight to voicemail. What was I even expecting? Why did I think it would be different? Frustrated, I tossed my phone on the desk and grabbed a bottle of water. Just as I was about to open the bottle cap, my phone rang. I dropped the bottle quickly and reached for my phone. I thought it was Zane who was finally calling back but I was wrong. “Hey,” I whispered as the call connected. “I wanted to wait for you to cool down before reaching out to

Chapter 163Grayson Grant ~•~My chest ached as if something inside me had cracked. I thought I’d finally found a way to get Tessa back to me, but I only made things worse. Back at the restaurant, I could tell that she was pretty upset and jealous, even if I didn’t admit it to Davina. Throughout the night, I kept thinking about Tessa. I wanted to call her that night, but I decided to wait until it was morning. I thought our conversation would end with both of us confessing that we still had feelings for each other, but Tessa caught me off guard. All of a sudden, she started acting like she wasn’t bothered by my date anymore, and my chest twisted painfully when she mentioned that Zane was in the picture after I talked about feelings. When I saw the blog post earlier, I was the happiest person. I was so certain that it would cause a rift between her and Zane. But I was disappointed when she told me that everything was good between them. I knew I had been acting nonchalant and tr

Chapter 164Tessa Ford ~•~As I pulled into Zane’s driveway, I groaned and dropped my head against the steering wheel. What was I doing? What kind of woman had I become? Showing up at his office just because he refused to answer my calls or texts felt reckless. But I couldn’t stop myself. His silence was killing me. I stepped out of the car and made my way to the building. The receptionist asked me to wait in the lobby after I told her I wanted to see Zane. I was happy that he was at work. A few minutes later, she called me back and told me that Zane was swamped and wouldn’t be able to see me. My stomach dropped. He really didn’t want to talk to me. I knew he wasn’t swamped, it was just an excuse to make me leave. But I wasn’t leaving until I spoke to him. I didn’t drive all the way down to his company just to be ignored. “Please, can you tell him that it’s really important?” I begged, my voice almost cracked. She let out a deep sigh. “I don’t think it’s going to change an

Chapter 165Tessa Ford ~•~“You really went one week without speaking to me? Now you’re showing up at my door for what?” I couldn’t hide the irritation in my voice as I glanced at Zane from head to toe. After he humiliated me at his office, I didn’t bother calling him anymore even though I was really tempted to. Every time my phone buzzed, I hoped it was from him, only to be disappointed when it turned out to be someone else. He didn’t bother to reach out to me. No calls. No texts. No nothing. But he wanted me to open my doors to him. “Tessa, you needed to see things from my point of view,” he replied, his voice almost a whisper. “Just let me inside so we can talk.” “Talk?” I scoffed bitterly. “Talk about what? When I went to your office to find you, you threatened to fire your receptionist because of me.” His face fell and he let out a defeated sigh. “I know, but I was hurting and I needed space.” I rolled my eyes. “Grown men don’t behave the way you did. Grown men communicat

Chapter 166Tessa Ford ~•~“What do you want to talk about? I’m in the middle of something,” I asked Grayson as I applied foundation on my face. I was getting ready for dinner with Zane, and I didn’t need any distractions. “The nightclub. We have an official opening now, and I wanted to ask if you would want to attend.” My heart leaped for joy. “Are you serious?” I asked as if I didn’t hear him correctly the first time. “Yes. It feels so surreal because it took so much time. At some point, I even thought about giving up on it.” “I’m glad you didn’t,” I replied with a smile on my face. Ever since I advised Grayson not to listen to Vito when he threatened to report him to the authorities, I’d been scared. Vito was really upset when Grayson refused to give in to his impromptu demands. What if he had made things worse for Grayson? The fear had sat at the back of my mind for days. I felt like there was a bomb that was waiting to explode. But I felt relieved knowing that the compa

Chapter 167Grayson Grant ~•~‘She finally said yes.’ Time seemed to freeze around me and my breath vanished as I read the caption on Zane’s new social media post. He didn’t show Tessa’s full face. He didn’t need to. Even from a mile away, I could recognize Tessa. My phone felt heavy in my hand. My chest tightened as a single, terrible question lodged itself in my mind. What did she say yes to? Getting married? I blinked hard, hoping I’d read it wrong. What the hell was going on? Didn’t they just meet each other like yesterday? Why were they moving really fast? I thought about calling Tessa. She told me she was really busy with work, but she lied to me. Tessa was busy preparing to go out with someone instead. I couldn’t understand why she lied to me. I was certain that her date wasn’t even over. Letting out a deep sigh, I looked at the picture and zoomed in on it. I wanted to figure out which restaurant they were having dinner at. But I couldn’t figure it out from tha

Chapter 168Tessa Ford ~•~I knew that if I didn’t agree to be Zane’s girlfriend and commit to him soon, I would still be having those thoughts about Grayson. It wasn’t like I was using Zane to get over Grayson. I was already over Grayson. I just wanted to suppress those feelings that were about to resurface before they got the chance to. When Zane asked me out, I was taken aback because I wasn’t expecting him to do something like that since we’d just had a big fight. I said yes before I could overthink it. He’d been around for a while and there was no use stalling anymore. And I didn’t want to hurt him by rejecting him. “Tessa, what’s on your mind?” Zane’s calm voice dragged me out of my thoughts. It was then that I realized that I had zoned out of the conversation. I brushed my hair backward. “Nothing. Nothing,” I replied, lifting my gaze to meet his eyes. Zane had a satisfied expression on his face. “Are you sure?” He asked, his voice barely above a whisper. I nodded witho

Chapter 169Tessa Ford ~•~The words didn’t register right away. Wife. I stared at her in silence as if she had spoken in a language that I didn’t understand, my brain refusing to catch up with reality. “I—.” My mouth opened, but nothing came out. She looked calm. Too calm. Perfectly put together in a way that made me painfully aware that I was standing there barefoot, wearing her husband’s shirt. Her eyes flicked over me, slowly. “That explains the silence,” she said calmly. “You didn’t know.” Yes. I didn’t know. My chest tightened. “You’re his wife?” I finally managed to ask. She nodded with a proud smile. “Yes. I’m Zane’s wife, Mrs Lockwood.” She extended her hand for a handshake. I didn’t take her hand. Why was she so calm after seeing another woman in her house? Why didn’t she act shocked or get upset? What was the dynamic of their relationship like? Nothing made sense. Zane never mentioned anything about having a wife. When I asked him about his love life over the

Chapter 170Tessa Ford ~•~“Tessa, no,” Nora breathed. “Don’t just say he should go to hell. You deserve an explanation at least. He owes you answers.” I wanted answers. I also wanted to know the reason why he would do something like that to me. But I was angry. He hadn’t even bothered to reach out to me either. For all I know, he could be cuddled up with the lady on their bed. Hopefully, it wasn’t the same bed I’d spent the night on. The thought of everything made me burn with rage. Why did he think he could play with me like that? I didn’t even want to see or talk to him. I knew things would get ugly if we spoke while I was still so upset. “You have no idea how I feel, Nora,” I continued, my voice filled with frustration. “I’m sure he was spending time with her when he claimed that he needed space from me. Why was I too stupid? Why didn’t I figure everything out?” “You’re not stupid, Tessa,” Nora replied, trying to comfort me. “It’s not your fault that someone else is an assh
