Chapter 1

They stripped me bare and tossed me in the cold room.It was the day after Genny's birthday. Cute little one-year-old, right? Until someone dumped ice water on her. Fever hit fast. And guess who they all blamed?Me.Helga came swinging, screaming, yanking my hair.Sandro Vaitti? Didn't even look at me. Just, "Why'd you hurt my kid?"I hadn't.He hung up on me.Next thing I knew, I was locked in a cold room for twelve hours. So cold I couldn't even blink. Thought I was gonna die in there. Then the speaker crackled."Twelve hours, Emilia Estavini. Do you understand what you did wrong?"Sandro. Of course. In the background, Helga Cicili's fake-sweet voice oozed through. "Sandro, it was just a fever. I'll take care of Genny. Maybe the Family should forgive Emilia..."I didn't answer. Couldn't. My eyelids barely moved. Then Sandro snapped. "You're not even reflecting, huh? Keep it up—we'll make it another twelve."That's when it hit—pain like a knife in my gut. Warmth trickled

Chapter 2

After the doctor left, the house went dead quiet.I dragged myself out of bed and started packing.Halfway down the stairs, diary in hand, I ran right into Sandro and Helga. She was cradling Genny, both of them laughing like some perfect family.Sandro saw me and froze, like I was a threat or something. Pulled Genny behind him without thinking.Once Helga whisked Genny away, he chilled a little. Tried to explain. "Helga's pregnant with my son. She can't handle a sick kid, so I brought them here."Then he noticed my face and that irritation kicked in. "Genny got sick because of your jealousy. Since you're fine now, apologize to Helga and help the maids with Genny."Normally, I'd have yelled at him. This time, I just looked up and met his eyes.Sandro noticed my pale lips, brows pulling tight. Stepped in closer. "You look awful. Is it your period? Did the cold room mess you up? What'd the doctor say?"I stepped back. Dodged his hand.Sandro froze, then frowned. "Emilia, after l

Chapter 3

Sandro was playing nurse for sick little Genny and baby mama Helga. He had no clue I'd already booked a flight—three days and I was gone. That night, just when I figured he'd crash next to Helga, my door creaked open. The bed dipped. He slid in, wrapped his arms around me."Genny's fever finally broke. Helga's asleep too," he said, hand settling on my stomach.I flinched when he whispered, "Your belly feeling better?"No answer from me, so of course he started rubbing my lower stomach like nothing had changed.I shoved his hand off. "I'm fine."But I'm not."He exhaled, then pulled my hand to his shoulder like some kid needing a hug. "It hurts here."My fingers grazed the scar. I went still. The memories slammed in.Sandro—Vaitti golden boy—could've had any mafia heiress. Instead, he picked me. No title, no name, nothing.Three years ago, he tried to walk away from it all—for me. His dad's punishment? Ninety-nine brutal lashes.I bawled like my chest was being ripped ope

Chapter 4

The city blurred in reverse through the car window.Sandro called. "Helga's baby's fine. You keep begging me to trust you, but somehow you always end up hurting my kids."He sounded beat. "Maybe my dad was right about that no-kids agreement... I vanished for three days hoping you'd get it—""I do," I cut in. "Hope you all live happily ever after."Silence. Then he snapped, louder now, "What the hell does that mean? You think I love Helga? The only person I've ever loved is you!"I clenched the phone. Didn't say a word.He took that as a win. Typical."Let's just forget all this. I'm not mad. But don't ever talk about leaving again. Everything I've done was for us."The airport came into view. I didn't bother telling him I was already gone."And Helga? She cool with all this?" I asked."She forgave you. Just wants a fake wedding tomorrow—for the kids. So they think we were married or whatever. It's just for show."A beat. Then, "Just wait for me. One last time. Then I'll marr

Chapter 5

The room looked exactly the same.Except it wasn't.All of Emilia's stuff—gone. And so was she.His breath hitched. Voice cracked."Babe! Where are you!"Silence. His words bounced off the walls, no answer.Panic hit hard and fast. He tore through the villa like a man losing his mind. Room after room. Nothing. No note. No trace. Not even her voice on the other end of the phone. Then—The front door creaked open. He sprinted toward it like it was his last shot.Nope.Just the maid. Back from taking out the trash. She blinked at him in his tux. "Sir, wasn't your wedding today?""Where's Emilia? Where did she go?"She flinched. "When I got here this morning, Mrs. Vai—uh, I mean Ms. Estavini—was already gone."He didn't even hear her. His eyes zeroed in on the notebook in her hand."Oh, I found this in the trash. It was mixed in with the garbage. Thought maybe Ms. Estavini tossed it by mistake."His face drained. That notebook—her diary. She started writing in it after t

Chapter 6

Sandro let out a cold, bitter laugh. "What are you even pretending for?"His bloodshot eyes locked on Davide, wild and burning. He was dead sure—Davide had stashed her away."You KNEW she was carrying my child. That's why you locked her in that cold room, isn't it? You're the one who made her sign that paper—made her give up OUR baby! You didn't just drive her away... you KILLED my kid!"Davide whipped around, stunned, eyes landing on Helga, who was trembling.Yeah, she was the genius who suggested tossing Emilia into the cold room—and the twisted contract.Davide never liked Emilia anyway. Too plain, too "common" for his golden boy. Only Helga Cicili, the Principessa of the Cicili Family, was wife material in his eyes. Their families joining up? Perfect power move. But Sandro? He actually gave a damn. Took beatings for Emilia. Threatened to ditch the whole empire for her. Davide hated that. Blamed every second of rebellion on her.So when Helga cried wolf, said Emilia was a thr

Chapter 7

The house manager looked uneasy. "Ms. Estavini's really gone. And no matter how you feel about Ms. Cicili, she's still carrying your son. Maybe once things settle, Don will let you go."Sandro glanced at the guards posted by the door, then turned toward Helga's room.He hadn't even reached it when voices leaked through the door."Mamma, your fake miscarriage idea worked perfectly," Helga whispered. "Sandro freaked the second he thought something happened to the baby. He's not going anywhere, and he's finally stopped digging."Sandro froze. Then Helga's next words hit like a bucket of ice water."Last time, I only dumped cold water on Genny because you said it'd make Sandro pity her and cancel the wedding with that bitch."Maretta's smug voice followed. "Obviously. Do you know who your mother is? But ease up on Genny—she's your daughter. A little fever here and there is fine. That woman's gone. Just focus on carrying this baby. Davide'll force Sandro to marry you."And there it w

This place? Total middle-of-nowhere vibes. Quiet, forgettable—basically perfect for disappearing off the grid.Emilia didn't just blend in, she thrived. Landed a teaching gig, built a life with zero chaos. Slowly, the scars faded.Meanwhile, the Vaitti Family? Yeah, not so lucky. After Helga and Maretta got exactly what they deserved, Davide suddenly found his conscience. He stopped blocking Sandro, who went full mafia mode using every contact he had to track her down. Too bad Emilia's escape plan was airtight. Every lead? Ice-cold.Three peaceful years. Then last weekend happened...***I held the little girl's hand and bought her favorite ice cream. We were just about to leave when Sandro appeared, walking straight toward us.Three years gone, and the second he saw me, his eyes flooded."Emilia, I finally found you!" Then he spotted the girl, his face breaking into this ridiculous glow. "Our daughter!"The kid instantly ducked behind me, clutching my coat."Don't be scare
