TAMSIN The phone slipped from my hand and clattered against the tile floor. I stared at it. I could not seem to make my body respond to anything else. Whitney was at my side immediately, her hand closing around mine. "Tamsin. Breathe. Slowly. In and out. That is it. Just breathe. What happened? What did he say?" I shook my head. "Nothing." "Tamsin." "It was nothing." I bent down, slowly, and picked the phone up off the floor. The back panel had come loose from the impact. I pressed it back into place with hands that were not quite steady, held the power button down until the screen went dark, and slipped the phone into my pocket. I stood there in the room for a long moment, leaning against the cool sink, trying to make my mind work. Whitney did not speak.
