Coren’s pov.An old saying in the Silvercrest pack says an Alpha's work is never done.It used to be a thing of pride for me, doing the things I needed to keep my pack safe and sound, but today my mind is in chaos."Alpha, there's been sightings of rogues close to the pack borders on the far east. Our warrior wolves there have asked for backup. Should we send some more men or wait to confirm the severity of the threat first?"A groan slips from my lips."We also need you to sign off on the new medical center, Alpha Coren. Expenses need to be approved for more supplies and the new equipment still have to be brought in."I stifle the urge to let out a snarl at the messages but I settle for putting off my phone instead. As I step into the packhouse, every corridor vibrates with tension. The guards are whispering, and the omegas avoid my eyes as they pass by. Some pack elders still linger in the packhouse halls, probably waiting for the next bit of drama to erupt. As Alpha, I should be

"Lucy. You don't seem as shy as before."That's a strange thing to say but I can't get it out of my head. Tristan scoffs, seated on the couch beside me, but thankfully he keeps his mouth shut. He should do that more often.Lucy blushes lightly, the action done at just the right time as she flutters her lashes, "Thank you.I've just been trying to be more confident lately."She tilts her head to the side, everything practiced as she smiles, "I think children respond better to warmth and confidence."I nod at that and turn my attention to the two other women.Lydia offers a polite smile as I ask her questions, and Judy sits stiff backed, hands folded tightly in her laps as she responds when it's also her turn. All through this, Lucy just watches me.Her gaze isn't disrespectful, at least not openly, but it gives me a feeling I'm not really comfortable with.As the interviews go on, I think less about her sudden confidence and try to focus on the qualities of the three women in front of

Tracy’s POVThe rest of the week passes by easily. That’s because Destiny has raised my son to be such a wimp. I’m watching the kids on the playground run and play with each other when one of them takes the ball Jack was kicking around. Jack lets him go and walks over to the swingset but I’m having none of that.I walk over immediately to Jack pulling him to the side, “Isn’t that your ball over there with that other kid?”Jack looks over, “You mean Daniel?”I nod, “You should go there and get your ball back. If he doesn’t give it to you, push him to the floor and let him know who’s boss. You’re the Alpha’s son. You’re much stronger than him.”Most children would take the bait, I know I did when I was a child but Jack only shakes his head, “Destiny told me not to use my strength in ways that would hurt the other kids. She says "because I'm stronger, I have to be responsible with my strength.”When he's not reading a book, he's asking to go to the playground and play with some of the

I sit in front of my door for a long while, my tears still flowing down my cheeks as I think of what to do.I still can't believe it. A bottle of sterilizing pills instead of sleeping pills. It feels cruel. And more than cruel it feels unbelievable, because why would the two people I have the most trust in this pack do something like this to me?Doctor Courtney has been around for the nine years of my marriage to Coren. She's his personal Doctor and when we got married, she became mine too.We formed a close friendship over the years. She's seen how my inability to conceive for Coren has wrecked me. I've… I've broken down in tears many times on her examination table. And Coren.... Coren is my mate and husband. He wants a child, our child, just as bad as I do. Doesn't he?As the thought flits through my mind, I remember how much our sex life has dwindled these past five years. I thought after a year of not letting him have sex with me, he would be ravenous for sex when I finally did

Coren’s pov.I'm in my office when words I never thought I'd hear slice through my mind."Alpha Coren, I think Luna Destiny might be pregnant again."The sensation of someone else in my head isn't unfamiliar. As Alpha, it's a regular thing.I communicate with my beta, various warriors and pack personnel through the mind link. Only those who I have given access can talk to me through It uninterrupted, but this message makes the pen in my hand drop."Alpha Coren, how do you want me to deal with it?"A growl slips from my lips immediately as my wolf recognizes the threat. That's MY child. Dealing with it means killing it and the way she says it, as if my child were trash she's asking permission to throw out...My stomach turns.I'm about to tell Courtney to fuck off through the mind link when the door opens. Destiny steps inside. The second I see the medicine bottle in her hand, my blood goes cold as a chill runs through me, "Destiny, what's wrong?"Her eyes look unfocused, glassy wit
