Lahat ng Kabanata ng The Enemy's Deal: It's More Than Just a Contract: Kabanata 81 - Kabanata 90

Valerie opened her eyes and stretched her hands to turn off the alarm ringing so loudly. She stared at her phone. It was a few minutes past six. She had set an alarm on her phone so she could wake up early, even though she knew Joanne would do that. She wanted to be ready before Elora would show up at eight. Valerie sat up and stared at her packed bags. Leonard stayed back last night to help her pack. Not only that. He also helped her pick out clothes that fit Shadow Pack's weather."You should cover up well," he had told her. "Shadow Pack is not like the Fire Pack. It might not be as cold as the Ice Pack, but it's certainly cold."He went on to talk about a lot of things: the cultural shocks, places she could visit, and also what to avoid. His words made Valerie look forward to going to the Shadow Pack. Valerie made sure to note down everything he said to her. He had even teased her about how serious she was, writing them down.Thinking about everything that had happened between them

After Ariel left, Valerie and Elora unpacked their bags and began to arrange their clothes in the wardrobe. When they were done, they sat down and began to talk about work and other things. They talked about Valerie's new post and how Leonard had found out about Diana's betrayal. Elora said she loved the idea of Valerie acting as the Luna's assistant."That will keep you safe," she said. "You trusted Diana so much. You must have felt bad, finding out about her betrayal."Valerie nodded. "I did. But I think finding out so early was a good thing. I can't imagine what would happen if I found out later." Elora sighed. "I am not too surprised about Luella, though. I've heard a lot about her in the Ice Pack, and her attitude also made her suspicious. Though I did not want to believe my dad, I mean Beta Nathan, would do that.""I was shocked too," Valerie said. "He was a very good person when you were around. Do you think he was pretending?""Or maybe influenced?" Elora asked."By who? The

"Who is he trying to lure out?" Valerie asked. "Someone dangerous?""He is dangerous," Ariel answered. "And...""And he wants to use her as bait?" Elora yelled slightly. She was angry. Why would Leonard do that? She understood that their marriage isn't real, but that doesn't mean he can play around with Valerie's life."No," Ariel answered. "He is not using Valerie as bait. Although he is trying to lure someone out through her, he isn't going to put her in danger."Valerie and Elora furrowed their brows. What does Ariel mean? "Can you explain better?" Valerie asked. "Cause I don't get it."Ariel moved closer to them and sat down on the couch."You won't be the only one using the veil," Ariel explained. "There are others positioned at strategic places."Valerie stared at Elora, giving her the do you understand look.Elora shook her head. She doesn't get it either."Do you mean Valerie isn't the only one using the veil?" Elora asked, and Ariel nodded. "What is Valerie's job, aside fro

"Don't look at each other that way," she said. "You've been treating me like we are never going to meet after I leave the Fire Pack. Is there something I need to know?"Ariel shook her head. "No? We...""Then why are you treating me like..."Elora held Valerie's hand. "No one is treating you like you will never return. But I know coming back to this place might be very difficult. Or it will take a long while. We both know your father won't let you come to the northern hemisphere. He never agreed to it."Valerie nodded. Her father has always been wary about the northern hemisphere, and that's because of the Fire Pack."Then what about you, Ariel? Is that the same reason?"Ariel shook her head. "I did not know about your father not wanting you to come to the northern hemisphere, but I know after you leave, everyone will get busy. Getting together again like this might take time."Valerie sighed. She was happy it wasn't something serious. She was scared something was already going on, an

Luella did not show up for the Shadow Festival as they had predicted. Nor was there any suspicious person around; it made Valerie wonder if Luella actually cared about her having Leonard's child, as they thought. Luella wasn't the only one who did not show up. Leonard did not either, although Arden came.On the first day of the Festival, they had a lot of fun. The Festival started at exactly nine in the morning, with an open dance from the warriors. Elora and Valerie loved every part of the festival. Elora even took a few pictures where she was allowed to. Valerie, on the other hand, drew a lot of sketches. It was surprising to Valerie and Elora how they were able to see clearly after taking the candies handed over to them, despite the thick mist; it was just like Ariel had told them.By noon, they went for the first hunting and when they returned, they had a short tea break. Valerie looked around for Luella or even someone who could arouse her suspicion, but there was no one. She dec
