Tyrel (Third-person POV) Both wolves move like lightning. One minute they are yards away in the distance. The next, their shadows are upon the White one and Tyrel like a tree shade. The latter's teeth has barely touched Kerris' neck when something hit him like a giant brick, sending him to his knees. The pain from the blow blurs Ty's vision. For a few long moments, all he can see is stars in murky darkness. Kerris must have been hit, too. No doubt, by mistake. When Ty blinks to clear his sight, he sees her falling, only to be caught in Ares' arms. Meanwhile the creature stands over him, about to launch another attack. He drags himself away on all fours while trying to force Kaelan out, but his wolf seems unwilling to emerge. Or maybe the crushing pain is making it hard to focus so he can shift. The monster towers behind him and is about to pin him with thick metal claws. But Ty rolls away in a swift move and finally, inhaling deeply, Kaelan, his wolf comes out. He rises, lifting

Kerris POV"You're opening his eyes to see that he, Zach Stone, is a miracle. We're a miracle. Not a curse. You and me? We are alike." He picks up the cup again, fills it with water and brings it to me. The bed dips with his weight when he sits on it. His natural masculine scent fills my senses, mingled with the smell of freshwater and soap. I want to be in his arms so much. To feel his protective strength around me. As I take the glass, memories of the past week returns, and I recall how he has been keeping his distance. Then I recall going to his office unannounced to confront him. And with that, the episode with Ty comes back in a flash. The cup is between my lips as I pause. "What's wrong?" His asks tenderly. "My dad. Is he alright?" "Of course. He has been here a few times to check on you. He's staying in the south wing for now until you shift." After taking large gulps of the water, I hand him the cup and wipe my mouth with the back of my hand. "More?" He asks. "Yes."

Zach POVI spend the rest of the time the same way I've spent the last two days. Dealing with the mess Tyrel made. All the members of the Alpha Council and the Elders of the West Coast remain in my castle. One thing the latter and I have in common at the moment is their desire for their King to be mated immediately. The Alpha council has a 'more pressing matter' to resolve. We're now assembled in the large meeting parlour of the castle, and I can't help but smile inwardly when I think of all the information I've gathered this past two days. Okay maybe I'm smiling because of the female in my bedroom upstairs. The whispers of all the werewolves fill the expansive room as they argue with themselves about the events of the last few days. As far they're concerned, Black Rock and the River Howl pack need new Alphas immediately. Alpha Lee and Brody, the former leaders of these packs, have been convicted of treason. It turns out that Tyrel was plotting with them to dethrone me. I recall t

Kerris POVThe bright light of the castle continues to fade as Zach and I sneak farther from its massive walls. A few warriors lurk around keeping watch. Zach says something to them through the mindlink. Then he places a finger across his lips, no doubt ordering them not to tell anyone we left the building. We are far from the massive walls of my new home when I look up at the sky for no reason. It's a new moon, so it's not like I can see anything up there except the bright grey clouds. Especially with my wolfless eyes. The Moon's soft light filters through the cloud, revealing the trees on our path. Squirrels and other woodland creatures scurrying about.Zach and I are walking so closely together that our steps are almost in sync with his large body brushing mine every now and then. We don't speak. And the silence is so peaceful and natural that it feels like we come out into the woods like this often. The only sound around us are the crackling of dry leaves under our feet, an owl

Kerris POV Yup. I knew it. I'd felt eyes but had refused acknowledge they belong to a werewolf passerby. I'd told myself that they were probably another creature of the woods. In truth, I didn't care. Or more accurately, knowing someone's might be watching had increased the thrill. But that feeling has gone now that the sëx̌ session is over. What's left is embarrassment. Someone had watched me getting fücķed by the Alpha King. I let my head drop on Zach's chest, hiding my face from him. 'It's my fault,' he sighs, smoothing my back. 'I should've been patient till we get home. But they're gone now. They ran away.' 'Do you know who it is?' I ask with my face pressed to his chest still. 'A forest guard. I assume. I'll find out. They're female.' I lift my head. It's less embarrassing knowing that our audience was the same sëx and not a male wolf. "Really? Did you see her face?" "Nope. Why? You want me to punish them for seeing our Queen's round... bubble büťt?"
