Chapter 1 Useless Family

I smashed the robot right onto the ground. My sister, Yvonne Riverstone, showed up right at that moment. Either it was a coincidence, or she'd been keeping an unusually close eye on me."What are you doing, Samuel?" She looked at the broken robot like it was her most prized treasure, but when she looked at me, her eyes were dripping with venom.I met her gaze without fear, and a sneer curled my lips. In my previous life, I always relented when it came to my sister, all to protect her fragile ego. Sometimes she would steal my credit, but I just let her, since it didn't matter to me.To my shock, she was the first to turn her back on me and to think I cared for her. Since elementary school, I'd shown great thinking skills and an interest in AI robots. I picked computer science in college and won many intraschool contests.Even so, that did not stop the Internet from calling me a thief overnight. I froze to death on a winter day, and my sister's orders made that happen. Now all I fe

Chapter 2 Yvonne's Love

My father never spoke like that to me. I used to be brilliant and do everything they asked me to. Now, even my mother was looking at me with displeasure. I could see the scolding in her eyes. All I did was smile. "You promised you'd have my back all the time, Dad. You too, Mom. So why the long faces? It almost seems like you're making me join the competition to boost your ego, not my future.""Shut your mouth!" my mother scolded, losing her composure. She lost whatever elegance she thought she had. Her pitiful ego was gone too.Yvonne put her leg over another and watched me fight back. Zack knew something had gone horribly wrong, so he stepped in to play the mediator."Zack, your folks are just worried about you. The nationals can help you a lot if you win. You can't just pull out."I answered, "I've gotten an offer from Mr. Wendel. He's a world-famous master, and his nation's robot tech is incredibly advanced. I can learn a lot from him."I did not really care about the national

Chapter 3 Report

'I'm really sorry, Samuel. I didn't mean to cross you, but are you sure you're pulling out of the nationals?''Yeah.'The guy was just a suspect for now. Without further proof, I could not tell him that he was already on my list.Zack came with a surprise. He was relentless about getting the complete code for the robot, but he said it was purely academic. I did give him a lot of codes for robots of different purposes. He took them all. Every single time, he could come up with a new excuse. I wondered if shame existed in the guy.My latest robot was multifunctional, all-purpose, even. I learned from my mistakes and created the machine. Still, I didn't refuse Zack. All I did was delete part of the code and handed the rest to him.Zack was elated. He promised me dinner, and it would be right before the nationals. I took him up on his offer, but there were unexpected guests at the venue. Yvonne and Dick.Yvonne noticed my lack of warmth, and she stepped in for her true love right awa

Chapter 4 Leave the Venue

"You're a psycho, Samuel!" Yvonne shouted and threatened to come up to the stage and beat me up. She wasn't Dick's best muscle for nothing. The security guards pulled her back. This was the perfect chance for me to socially murder her until she became a shut-in."You've embarrassed us enough, you brat! Get off the stage right now! You can't ruin someone else just because you pulled out!" For once, my mother was getting nervous.I knew they invested half their wealth on Dick. It was something I found out the day before. Not long after I was gone, my parents met up with Dick and offered to sponsor him for the duration of the competition. That cost them more than half a million, and they hoped they could make multiple times more in return. They made their wealth through gambling years ago. It was only my constant persuasion that kept them from making a mistake that could ruin us all.And now they were back at it again. One part about high-risk high reward was that the 'investors' cou

Chapter 5 No Discussion

About three hours after the incident, Dick started a livestream and hinted to his viewers that I switched out his code. The Internet fell for his bait and attacked me. The organizers had not come out with any statement just yet. It was the perfect chance for him to shift the narrative to his side. But if he thought I would take it lying down, he was wrong. I went straight to the hospital he was in. It was easy to find where he was. The ward surrounded by people was where he was in.I peeked in and saw my parents, Yvonne, and Zack. They were conspiring and coming up with an act."I'm really sorry, everyone. Samuel's a bit spoiled. Really sorry we wasted your time.""He wanted to pull out of the competition all of a sudden. We didn't know why until now. He's worried people might find out he stole from Dick."My parents cried to the camera and told everyone about my 'dark past' like I was not their son. Though this wasn't my first time witnessing this scene, it still stung my heart.

Chapter 6 Ungrateful Friend

No matter how much I helped them, they would only still see me as a tool. They would still abuse me."If you won't back out, then I don't have a brother anymore!" said Yvonne."Good for you." I went around them and stopped three feet away.Suddenly, Zack barreled over to me. His eyes were filled with pleading. "Please, just help me out. One last time! I'll give you anything you want! Please!""I don't need you to give me anything I want. I'll work for them myself."He hollered, "But you help me all the time! Why not this time?" Zack thought he was venting his frustration, that I'd treated him unfairly.I did not do anything. He worked with my family and tried to ruin me. To be honest, I should be demanding answers from him instead.I should never have helped him. He took my aid for granted, and it fed his ambition. I demanded, "Of course I won't. You're asking me to face the world's insults. You're asking me to ruin my life!""You know the kind of snobs my parents are! I'm the

Chapter 7 That Won't Work

Dick lost his composure. It was replaced by a hint of madness. It was not my first time handling guys like him.I sponsored an underprivileged girl in my previous semester. In the end, she and her co-conspirators came after me. After that falling out, I demanded that she give me back all the money I invested on her.I stopped sponsoring anyone after that incident.Zack's parents abused him all the time. He was fortunate that he knew me since we were kids. I would lend him anything he asked, even the codes. They were supposed to be secrets, but I lent him for academic purposes.I thought we were best friends, given our history. In the end, he gave in to temptation. He was not wrong for trying to find a way out. He was wrong for trying to ruin me over it.Yvonne was just as mediocre as our parents. She was their perfect replica.Dick snapped me out of my thoughts. "It doesn't matter. Soon, the whole city will hate you!"I wondered what he meant, and then a heavy weight was pulling

Chapter 8 Evidence

The cops suspected me as well. At this rate, they would take me back to the station for further questioning.Dick was lying on the recliner nearby. His eyes fluttered open. He only choked on water. That did not take long to come back from. He said weakly, "He did not mean to. This is a mistake, everyone."That gained more sympathy from the people, and that made them sure I was the would-be killer. If I played along, he would have an excuse to use if he lost the competition.Yvonne gave me a scathing glare before she hurried over to Dick. "The cops will give you justice, Dick.""Thanks," said Dick, but he was not looking at Yvonne. Instead, he was looking at me. I could see the gloating in his eyes.I smiled at him and took off the necklace I was wearing. My father stopped me. He thought I wanted to bribe the cops."What are you doing? Bribing an official will land you in prison! Don't do anything funny!""Oh, don't worry. I won't tell everyone you bribed Mr. Lawson with eight go

Chapter 9 Career

Dick was taken into custody only to be released a few days later, but his world would never be the same. Everyone hated his guts. They attacked him every time he showed his face, and he had to take up refuge at Yvonne's.My parents used to be nice to him because he brought in enough money and everything else for them. But now he lost most of their money, so they only had bitterness for him.My mother got into fights with Dick all the time. Dad turned to alcohol and drained the house's supplies. He spent his days in torpor.Yvonne would not allow anyone to push Dick around. When she tried to de-escalate the situation one time, she pushed our mother down to the ground by accident. That hurt her back and landed her a stay in the hospital.Yvonne and Dick had no grounds to stay at our parents' place anymore, so they found a place elsewhere. Yvonne even dropped out of school just to stay with Dick. The news did not surprise me at all. She could even corner her own brother and kill him
