I’ve thought about killing my boss exactly forty-seven times in the past three months, which means I average about three murder fantasies per week, and honestly, that feels low considering I see his face every single day and every single day he finds a new way to make me want to commit a felony. We walk to a private elevator where he pulls out a key card from his wallet and swipes it and the doors open immediately. I step inside and watch him follow and the doors close, suddenly we’re in an enclosed space lined with mirrors on all sides. I can see myself and I look exactly like someone who’s having the worst night of her life, exhausted and scared. I can also see him next to me-and so much larger than me in this small space, and I’m five foot six and he’s at least six four and the height difference is obvious. He’s staring at me like he’s trying to decide whether I’m brave or just stupid, and honestly I’m not sure myself anymore, and then his phone rings.
