Chapter 1

I had looked forward to having my wedding with my beloved partner, Jessica Fletcher, for five long years. There was once when I thought I'd be the happiest man alive on my wedding day. After all, I got to marry my beloved Jessica. At least, I thought I was certain that my happy ending was within my reach before I heard Jessica's sincere confession toward her first love, Benedict Olson. Her actions ended up shattering all of my fantasies about our marriage. She made me realize that the happy life I thought I had was nothing but a fragile bubble that could be popped with just a touch. As Jessica snuggled into Benedict's arms, she asked with a frown, "What do you mean by that, Oliver?"Benedict was wearing a white suit today, which matched Jessica's white bridal gown. They looked like actual newlyweds when they embraced.Even though I was the actual groom, I looked more like a pathetic clown when I stood across from Jessica and Benedict.Instead of answering Jessica's question, I

Since I was about to say my wedding vows earlier, I still had the microphone raised to my lips. Hence, everyone could hear my voice clearly.Jessica's furious expression froze on her face, but she soon snapped out of her trance. She merely gazed at me in disdain."Don't tell me you're jealous, Oliver! Benedict and I made a promise to reunite with each other in our next lifetime, not this one! "Anyway, you don't have to worry about a single thing! Now that I've already registered my marriage with you, you're the only husband I need."If you apologize to Benedict and me, I'll let bygones be bygones. We'll resume the wedding after that."I responded by tossing my suit jacket to the floor."I'm serious. Coincidentally, Benedict is wearing a white suit today. I'll pass the position of the groom to him so that I can fulfill your vow. I'll let you be with each other for eternity. Isn't that a good thing?"Benedict was Jessica's first love. However, he didn't hesitate to dump her and l

After dealing with my friends and relatives, I went home right away. The moment I opened the front door, I saw the wedding decorations as well as a wall plastered with photos. Before the wedding, I had specifically hired a team to decorate my residence. That way, Jessica and I would be able to reminisce about our pasts when we were spending time together after the wedding. As I stared at the first photo I had taken with Jessica five years ago, I began to feel a little dazed. The truth was, I had gotten to know Jessica nine years ago. I lost my parents to a car accident when I was still a kid. Thanks to their protection, I was able to survive the tragedy. The driver responsible for the accident paid me a huge sum of money that allowed me to live the rest of my life quite comfortably. However, I could never be with my parents anymore.Since then, everyone called me a walking jinx—a magnet for disaster. They all claimed that I was the reason my parents died.Due to that, I blamed my

Although I decided not to love Jessica anymore, the sight of the photos still left my heart throbbing in pain. The amazing memories we had woven together in the past did exist, but the fact that she preferred Benedict's company over mine still stood. It was said that human brains were capable of saving good memories and deleting the painful ones. Jessica had completely forgotten about the pain Benedict had caused her five years ago. Who was to say that I didn't go through the same process? Ever since Benedict got back to the country three months ago, all that was left between me and Jessica were deceit and fights. But for so long, I relied on the amazing memories we had crafted over the past five years in order to numb my heart to the heartbreaking pain.Only now did I finally realize the truth. I stared at the photos on the wall. Among them were Jessica's bright smile and the hug we had shared beneath the fireworks. There were so many more photos depicting our happiness on

Jessica called me instantly, but I rejected the call right away. So, she texted me instead."Benedict is like an older brother to me, Oliver! Why must you be so demanding?"I couldn't even be bothered to read her so-called explanation. Almost immediately, I blocked her number on the spot. A moment later, I blocked Benedict's number as well. I'd definitely be in a better mood if I didn't have to face them at all. That night, Jessica never came home. I could imagine her taking care of Benedict in his residence at the moment. Of course, I never waited for her on the couch. After Benedict returned to the country, she often came home sometime past midnight. At times, she'd even spend the night outside.Tonight, I went to bed early, right after removing the wedding decorations. The next morning, I made myself a nice breakfast before going to work. Just as I sat down in my office, Jessica's parents came barging into my workspace.Jessica's mother, Rebecca Sanders, was covered in bran

Chapter 6

I placed the divorce agreement that I had printed out a long time ago before the Fletchers."Sorry, but I've already thought things through. I still want a divorce from Jessica, so I will never trade my shares for her forgiveness. After all, I don't care about her anymore," I said slowly as I gazed at the Fletchers' crumbling expressions.Mr. Fletcher's expression was frighteningly stormy."You'd better rethink your decision, Oliver. Are you really going to give up on your five-year relationship with Jessica?"I shook my head."I wasn't the one who gave up on this relationship, Mr. Fletcher. Jessica was the one who let go of this relationship first."Mrs. Fletcher, on the other hand, refused to give up."Whatever relationship Jessica and Benedict had is all in the past, Oliver. They are like siblings without any blood ties. You, on the other hand, are Jessica's legal husband."Just listen to that woman. She claimed that Jessica and Benedict were like siblings without any blood

I frowned slightly at Jessica's words. I didn't want to deal with her at all. Then, I realized that I still needed her to sign the divorce agreement. So, I had no choice but to open the door."You're still mad at me, aren't you? My parents told me that you wanted a divorce, but I refused to believe them!"Jessica's eyes were red and puffy. Clearly, she had cried earlier. The sight left me completely stunned. In the past five years, Jessica rarely cried. But when I noticed her phone's screen, I quickly snapped out of my trance. After all, her phone's wallpaper was a photo of her and Benedict.I took a step backward so that I could keep my distance from Jessica."I'm serious, Jessica. Since you don't love me, we might as well get a divorce."Jessica panicked instantly after hearing my words."Why? Is it because of what happened at the wedding? I already told you that it was a promise Benedict and I had made in the past! Seriously, he's like an older brother to me now!"I pointe

Chapter 8

I mailed another copy of the divorce agreement to Jessica's house, ensuring that she'd receive it personally. That way, I could get her to sign it as soon as possible.Ever since I became the chairman of the company, I had a huge pile of tasks to deal with. As such, my life was thrown into a busy frenzy. So, I had to hire an assistant. When my new assistant reported to work on her first day, I had a feeling that she looked a little familiar for some reason. So, I shot her a few more glances than usual.Unexpectedly, the assistant burst into a fit of giggles."Wow. You don't recognize me anymore after a few years of separation, huh?"Upon hearing her voice, I quickly recalled a certain someone. This made me widen my eyes in shock."Wait, you're Yvette Miller?"Yvette nodded in response. She smiled as she passed her work badge to me."That's right. It seems that you haven't forgotten me after all."I still found it hard to believe that Yvette was my assistant. I stared at her na

Chapter 9

I was slightly irritated by Jessica's presence.A few days ago, I had already made the truth clear to her. I even mailed her the divorce agreement, and yet, she still refused to sign it.I couldn't understand her thought process at all. She was the one who was hung up on Benedict the whole time. My actions should please her to no end.Furious, Jessica stomped over and questioned me. "Who the hell is she? When did you get to know her?"I was about to answer her when Yvette interjected smoothly while flipping her hair. "We're old classmates, Jessica. I'm Yvette Miller."Jessica was so pissed that her chest kept heaving violently."Oh, I see now! I remember that you two were seatmates back then! Did you two already get together a long time ago? Is that why you want a divorce, Oliver?"I just glanced at Jessica with a frown."Don't go around thinking that everyone else has a relationship as shameless and messy as the one you have with Benedict, Jessica!" I retorted.Yvette added

Chapter 10

After that, I began prioritizing my divorce procedures. However, Jessica refused to sign the divorce agreement no matter what.Left without a choice, I could only file for a court divorce. At the same time, I used 2% of my shares to bribe Jessica's parents into taking my side. As long as they could convince Jessica to sign the divorce agreement, I'd give them the 2% of the shares I promised them. All the Fletchers cared about was money. They never really gave Jessica the attention she needed her whole life, anyway. It was difficult on their finances nowadays, seeing as the money they received from their shares was barely enough to sustain their lifestyle. The 2% I promised them was like a lifeline being offered during their time of need.In the end, I had no idea how, but the Fletchers managed to get Jessica to sign the divorce agreement before the court hearing. One month later, they even took her to the courthouse so that she could receive the divorce certificate. When I laid m
