Rhys. " Because she is this Kingdom's Crown Jewel. " He whispered, his voice shaking with something that sounded like fear? respect? well, with the splash of venom in his eyes, it was impossible to read his true feelings. Kingdom's Crown Jewel? I raised my brows as I tasted the word on my lips. It sounded divine, dramatic, even. " She is a Phatom Alpha." Reading through the confusion in my face, he added, and instead of the second set of explanations shedding light into the situation, it only added more confusion. A phantom Alpha? That name sounded vaguely familiar. .Like a forbidden tale I had heard being whispered in hushed tones, over winter fireplaces... It sounded like something that you were sure you knew, and yet, you didn't fully understand. " What's a phantom Alpha?" I found myself asking, curiosity pricking my nerves. " A phantom Alpha?" He asked, wearing a small smile, adopting a thoughtful posture. " In simple terms, your grandmother is a phanto

Rhys. " I honestly don't know how you survived something that almost killed your father..." he wasn't even looking at me as he spoke. His voice was low, a mixture of mild pride and disbelief. Honestly, I understood why he was so worked up..If I hadn't managed to get out of that mirage, I probably would have ended in a far worse situation than my father's. From how quickly things were progressing, the pain, the buzzing in my ears, the darkness that was slowly creeping in, the consciousness that was slowly fading away, and the suffocation, another second there and it would have been a miracle if I would have ended up as just a cripple. Yes. I would have been lucky to come out as s cripple. From the pain that had consumed me, I had sensed it, death so near that it had been practically chocking me. And, I might have never seen my father at his prime, but after going through such kind of a torture, I would give a standing ovation to anyone who went through it and came out

Rhys. " At least now you will have options." She mumbled, sounding disturbed with the earlier excitement diming for a moment. " With your Phantom Alpha abilities, you can now be a royal member without having to go through with the contest." She added, forcing a smile. " But that will come at a different cost." She stated, and my heart clenched. Why was I not so surprised, though? This was the royal palace.. Everything had a hidden cost. Did they really have to make life so complicated? " What cost?" I chalked down the bitterness in my throat as I asked. " You might have to let the council know about your newly discovered abilities. " She took a pause, as if she was mentally assessing tbe situation, before proceeding. "Of course, your name will be doused with prestige, they will introduce you as a new addition to the royal family, and you will get to enjoy all the glory that comes with it, but.." She paused, and I clenched my fingers at the 'but' I didn't e

Sabrina. " But all is not lost..." he stated, a cunning glint cropping his eyes. " There is another way that you can make yourself useful in the palace..." Alpha King Alexander informed, his eyes holding mine in a way that had my skin prickling. " Either that, or you will be forced to leave the palace. .We only keep people who add value here, after all." He expressed, a deep chuckle escaping from his lips. All along, from the moment I entered in, I remained composed, listening as he spoke his mind, selling a picture of calm and composure even when every part in my body was screaming with anger, bitterness. But aside from chalking it all down, what more could I do? He was the Alpha king...it was not like I could fight him, at least not at the moment.. I was now powerless, my wolf was dead, I was practically a cripple.. What could I possibly do? I just allowed the humiliation to burn through me, inch my inch, fingers tightly clenched, with no claws to pierce my sk

Sabrina. " Tell me, grandma, is Alpha King Alexander my real uncle?" I asked, unable to mask the disappointment in my voice. I didn't even know why I asked it because the answer was very obvious, but the question was already out, and there was no taking it back. " A uncle, asking their niece to sell their body? I actually wish he and I were not related in any way." Those were just bitter thoughts. I hadn't meant to voice them out loud, but I did, anyway.. He was my grandmother's son, it was expected if she got angry at my statement, but I didn't actually care, at that moment. There was just too much anger burning through me that if I didn't let it out, I was surely going to explode. And yeah, I actually couldn't wait to finish investigating and avenging my parents and finally leave the palace.. Each day that I spent here, from the first day itself, told a different tale of why my Mom chose to leave back then. And with every passing day, my godparents unwillin
