Maeve“Why didn’t you tell us?” I bowed my head at my brother’s question. After he walked in on Evans and me talking, I took his hand and walked him out of the café.I didn’t stop walking until we were well away from the café.He didn’t say anything as we both took a seat in the public park. He waited for me to tell him everything and I did.I told him everything. Okay, I didn’t tell him what happened in Venice because I don’t think he needs to know that.“I didn’t want you guys to be disappointed in me.” I responded.“Eve, you know we won’t have been disappointed. Also, it’s not your fault that he is a cheating bastard!” My brother let out.“I am sorry, I just didn’t know how to tell you guys and that’s why I didn’t say anything.” I told him.“I should have punched his face.” I smiled at my brother’s words. “You don’t need to do that. I don’t really care about him anymore and it’s not like I am heartbroken. At least, not anymore.” I assured him.“Are you sure you are okay?”

Alessandro“That’s the hundredth variant that we are trying! I think it’s time for you to give up.”I glared at my supposed assistant in anger. How dare he say something like that to my face, even while knowing how desperate I am to find the right contact of the one woman who rocked my world and left me high and dry with nothing but a piece of paper containing a phone number that wasn’t complete.“If you don’t want me to cut your salary for the month, then shut up and continue trying!”I fired at him, and he sighed deeply.I couldn’t blame him; we have been doing this for a week now.One whole week, trying hundreds of numbers and failing to reach Eve.Eve.That’s the only thing I know about her. Her name. But the problem is that there are millions of Eves in the world, and so far, all the Eves I have been able to reach aren’t the Eve that I am looking for. When I left my hotel room that morning, all I wanted to do was buy her flowers and talk her into spending the rest of her vacation

Alessandro “Nonno? You called me this morning.” I let out when I took his call. He laughed slyly.“Is there something wrong with wanting to hear my grandson’s voice more than once in a day?” I sighed deeply.“Nonno, now is not a good time.” I told him.“Why? Did something happen at your company? Do you need me to save you?” I rolled my eyes at his words. The man has been looking for ways to invest in my business for a while now, but I have been able to successfully keep him out of it.“I don’t need saving, Nonno, and my business is doing fine!” I told him. “You never need me! Anyway, have you thought about what I told you this morning?” Yes, I have thought about him and I have told him no countless times already but the old man has refused to listen to me.He thinks if he continues to ask me, I will change my mind but I don’t intend to change my mind.Saying yes to him would mean letting my mother back into my life. No, I wasn’t out of my mother’s life right now but we don’t s

Maeve“Are you sure the old man is coming?” I asked Evans for the hundredth time today. We have been here for over an hour now and still no sign of the old man we would be working for.The meeting was scheduled for today and I got the confirmation email from Evans three days ago.“Calm down, Eve. Unless you don’t trust me.” I resisted the urge to glare at him. I had no reason to trust him.I haven’t spoken to him for two weeks now and the only reason I took his call yesterday was that I knew he was calling for business. For the past two weeks, I have been living at the hospital with my sister.I even came here from the hospital.I can’t wait for us to go home. My sister is doing very well after the surgery and her doctor was positive this time.I can only hope this will be the last time.“He will come around, I got a text from his assistant that they will be late.” I glared at him.“Why didn’t you tell me?” I fired at him. “I didn’t think it was necessary.” I glared at him again

Maeve“Thank you very much. I appreciate it.” I told the old man, who smiled pleasantly. The room was silent for a while as I glanced through the contract. They already sent us a preview of it, so I knew most of the details already. After making sure it was the same contract with the same terms, I signed the three contracts and took my copy.We had to wait for Evans because he didn’t sign immediately, and for some reason, he was frowning. At some point, I thought he wasn’t going to sign the papers, and that made me have a ridiculous thought that he might have something against signing legal papers after signing our marriage papers.Well, after signing our marriage papers, he refused to sign the divorce papers, and now he is taking forever to sign a contract that he has most certainly read and even gone through with his lawyer. The look on his face made my ridiculous thought even more factual.Just when I thought he was going to throw the file across the room, Arturo spoke.Clearly, t

Maeve “I don’t think your grandson will like a woman like Eve.” I glared in his direction at his stupid words. “Why not? She is beautiful, obviously smart, and business-minded. She is every man’s dream girl.” I smiled at the old man’s compliment. “She is my girl.” I resisted the urge to yell in his face that I am not his girl. “Yes, I know and that’s why I tell you that you are lucky, young man. You'd better treat her right or you will find out how easy it is to lose someone valuable when you don’t cherish them.” The old man advised him. If only he knew that his advice was already too late. He already lost me and he will never get me back. After the tension-filled few minutes, the room went back to light talks for the next ten minutes after which the old man handed us the checks for our down payment. “Thank you so much for giving me your time today and I look forward to working with you.” The old man said as he stood up. We did too. “Thank you for trusting us with s

Maeve “I am out of here.” I let out but Evans clearly hasn’t noticed what I have noticed because the bastard refused to let me go. He yanked at my hand. “Let me go!” I told him through gritted teeth. “I am not done talking to you!” He let out. “And you think this is the place to talk to me about that?” He finally realized and let me go. I took the chance to walk away but the bastard followed behind me. Thankfully, the elevator was full of workers so he couldn’t speak to me until we got out. Once out, I walked fast to my car but he caught me before I could get in. “You are not getting away from this! Why didn’t you tell me you were in Venice? You had money for vacation but no money for your sister’s surgery.” I took the low blow of him thinking I put having a good time over my sister but I couldn’t ignore the fact that he actually forgot we booked a vacation for our honeymoon. “Rather worry about my financial situation and choices, shouldn’t you be worried about your

Maeve “What did I just hear?” My best friend Nora asked as she charged into my office. I quickly got up and ran to her before she did what I knew she would do. The last thing I wanted was to create a scene and ruin the atmosphere in my office. “Not here, Nora. Please.” I begged her. “Well, show me where because we clearly have a lot to talk about!” She let out angrily! Instead of responding with words, I took her hand and led her to the rooftop of my office. We turned into a mini lounge where we hold meetings outdoors and entertain our guests who visit our office. “Girl?” She let out as soon as we reached there. I sighed deeply. “What did I hear? Please don’t tell me it’s true! Don't tell me that’s why the wedding was postponed. Don’t tell me you are still with that bastard and still thinking of marrying him.” She let out without giving me a chance to respond. “Why didn’t you tell me? Does Ricky know? Are you guys keeping secrets from me again? She bombarded me w

Maeve “Damn, Eve! I have been your friend since forever and I didn’t know you had it in you!” That makes two of us because I didn’t know I had it in me until that night with Andro. I wasn’t the kind of girl to fuck someone on the first date not to mention a total stranger. Evans and I didn’t even have sex until six months into our relationship. Part of the reason I trusted him so much was that he had been willing to wait and let us nurture our relationship. What a fool I had been. He most certainly had other women and that’s why he didn’t mind taking his time with me. I pushed all thoughts of him and our past away. “So, when are we meeting this Italian darling of yours?” My smile dropped. “Sorry, we are not meeting him any time soon. I had to leave in a hurry the morning after because my family needed me back here. I did leave my contact but he never called.” I told her. “Wow. That’s not the ending I expected.” Me too but there’s nothing I can do about it. It’s not l

Maeve “Wait, that’s why you seduced him? Just to show that we weren’t a match made in heaven, as I believed?” She glared at me which was unprofessional and disrespectful but I let it slide. “Well, you kind of succeeded in your plans because I know now that we aren’t a match made in heaven. Thank you for your services but don’t blame me for your low self-esteem because it has nothing to do with me and everything to do with you.” I told her. “No! It’s all you! Just like how you don’t believe I am good enough to design even a small apartment! You have always looked down on me.” I stared at her in confusion wondering where all the venom was coming from and why I didn’t even realize the obvious hatred she had for me. “What are you even talking about?” I asked her because I genuinely had no idea what she meant by what she said. “You know what I am talking about. Mr. Benson!” She let out. “What has Mr. Benson got to do with anything? Mr. Benson is my regular client who has a
